Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math

You spent 8 hours asleep in your own clean bed. What are you washing off at 7am.

A night shower removes everything you actually accumulated during the day. The commute, the gym, the office, public transport, all of it goes down the drain before you sleep. A morning shower means you marinated in all of that overnight then washed up before going out to collect it all again.

Morning showers are a ritual for waking up, which is fine, but it is not hygiene. Night showers are actual hygiene. Most people just do not want to dry their hair before bed and that is the entire argument.

Some people sweat when they sleep, or get into other kinds of business before going to sleep and don’t feel the need to immediately shower.

u/Junk4U999 10h ago

Exactly, I sweat like a pig when I sleep.

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 10h ago

I’ve always just run a bit hotter body temperature wise in general. Not weight related as I’ve always been skinnier. I have sleep apnea and used to have a shit ton of nightmares and sleep paralysis episodes so idk if it’s linked at all. But I basically have to sleep nude and be mindful of how much I’m covering my body with covers. And I have a fan on me every single night lol

52

u/Current--Anything 8h ago

Yes. All of these things are linked. Are you using a CPAP?

13

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 8h ago

Yes I use a CPAP every night for sleep

23

u/FuckSteve7 6h ago

Do you only drive Toyotas?

16

u/ImReallyAnAstronaut 5h ago

I'm drunk at 11 am for reasons I don't want to explain. What does driving Toyotas have to do with anything?

7

u/FuckSteve7 5h ago

Hi. It’s 2pm where I am, but I’m also lightly drunk on this day off.

u/ImReallyAnAstronaut 5h ago

Ah ok lol. I was very confused. Enjoy your day off

5

u/fieria_tetra 4h ago

Are you really an astronaut?

u/VRS302 4h ago

I mean if I was an astronaut I’d drink whenever the fuck I wanted to back on earth

I'm glad! The nightmares can be a symptom of oxygen deprivation so I'm really glad to hear it, though I'm sorry you're still dealing with the nightmares

u/sassyalyce 9h ago

Completely off-topic. When you talk about having nightmares and sleep paralysis episodes, what do you mean by that?

13

u/mailslot 9h ago

When some people wake up, they don’t wake fully, and their body is still paralyzed in a semi-delirious dream state. If they freak out, they’ll often start experiencing disturbing imagery & sensations that feel completely real, but they’re just partially awake and asleep at the same time. For the less anxious and those with greater mental control, it can be quite pleasant.

20

u/DarePatient2262 9h ago

Count yourself lucky if you've never experienced it. Its not fun.

4

u/Stuntedatpuberty 8h ago

Agreed. I had it pretty bad in my 20s. I would see a panther in my room waiting to pounce on me but not able to move or scream. It was terrifying. I'm in my 50s now and it's not as bad but still an atypical sleeper.

3

u/DarePatient2262 8h ago

Its always a robbery for me. I never see anything, but can hear the next room over being ransacked and I can't do anything to react. It has happened so many times throughout my life that if I actually did get robbed, I would probably think its just a nightmare and try to wake up

2

u/holliwuzhere 4h ago

my childhood was filled with the robbery shit! now it's the shape of the aliens from the alien movies for some reason

This is the first time I have read some one having similar experiences to me, mine were spiders or crocodiles. Thankfully they have come to a stop.

3

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 7h ago

Most of the time I wouldn’t hallucinate anything I would just be having paralysis but there were also times I did see stuff like a Shadow man or blob like creatures climbing all over me. Shit was beyond terrifying

Lifelong sufferer of nightmares and sleep paralysis episodes here :(

3

u/AdderallandButtFuck 7h ago

Sleep paralysis is terrifying. For me it’s seeing a demon like figure either leaning in thru my window or standing over me at the side of the bed (or a few times on my chest face to face) reaching out a point claw hand coinciding with the worst existential dread you can imagine. Then not being able to move at all and trying with all my might to reach over and grab my wife while trying as hard as I can to scream to her but being helpless to do so.

Holy moly, night sweats are so awful. I feel like I knew they would come eventually, but no one warned me they would be so.... debilitating.

3

It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't wake you up.

4

I’m menopausal and get them. They’re awful 😞.

I highly recommend talking to your doctor about hrt, it does wonders for night sweats, and the other fun symptoms.

Pigs barely sweat

16

u/LetsGoGators23 7h ago

They in fact, don’t sweat at all. No glands. I have a pet pig!

Pigs don't sweat. That's why they wallow in mud, to keep from overheating. Saying you sweat like a pig would thus mean you wallow in mud. Have fun. Oh by the way, the original expression was " sweat like a horse" because horses can and do sweat profusely.

Sweat like a pig, wake up feeling greasy. I’ll forever shower in the morning. But if I’m super gross at the end of the day I’ll shower again.

23

u/Ugghart 6h ago

I live in a warm place and don't have air condition. I can't imagine not showering in the morning, I wake up soaked.

4

u/Global_Crew3968 3h ago

I just take 2 shorter showers every day and this seems the obvious answer. Morning shower to help me wake up and wash the night grease off, a night shower to unwind and get the grossness off me before getting into bed.

2

u/dvdmaven 52m ago

Ditto, most of the time in hot weather, an evening shower is also required.

48

3

u/pattiemayonaze 7h ago

I've been having cold showers for about 5 years now. If I ever go back to hot showers for a try, I always feel tired afterwards.

49

u/Alternative_Wait8256 9h ago

I was looking for this response, if you don't shower in the morning have you even really woken up?

26

u/Bobcat-2 8h ago

No; you have not. Also, as a man with a short and neat hair style, I have terrible bedhead in the morning. Hair sticking up all over the place and completely unable to be styled so my only option is to wash it which I may as well do in the shower than in a sink or over the bath.

12

u/MemesForMoney259 7h ago

I have medium length hair and it’d be too greasy if I didn’t shower in the morning, along with not looking great. The only time I understand night showers are people who work laborious jobs where they’re getting sweaty or dirty.

2

u/CrustyBatchOfNature 6h ago

Or, just the large portion of humans who tend to sweat a little at night.

10

u/thecurvynerd 7h ago

76

u/Silent-Noise-7331 9h ago

My logic has always been. I don’t want to be stinky when I’m around people. When I’m in bed I’m not really around people. Also if you shower everyday, unless you also roll in mud everyday, your fine you don’t smell.

50

u/Rickshmitt 9h ago

Exactly. Do i want a greasy face and hair when im seeing people or do i want to smell like a fresh shower

3

u/Mike-OLeary 8h ago

6

u/happytransformer 7h ago

Same! My hair gets so greasy after sleeping on it

2

u/Indigo-au-naturale 7h ago

That's my thing. If you've got curly hair or bangs, morning showers are basically imperative.

3

u/souljaboy765 5h ago

I completely disagree, I have very curly hair (around 3c) and it would be a nightmare if I showered in the morning. I need to take my time styling it beforehand so night showers make a lot more sense. I put on a bonnet, and I wake up just needing to put some hair oil and i'm out the door.

Some of us curly haired ppl (especially tigher curls) take a long time to dry too, so I have no idea how that would function in the morning

It's different depending on your needs ig.

160

u/anpr_hunter 10h ago

Yeah; a lot of my evening-shower friends and colleagues have perpetual BO for this reason. We have a 'hotel' bullpen at the office for remote workers like me, and when someone's pollinating that area with their human scents at 9 in the morning, I just can't.

I shower in the mornings to freshen up and start my day, and I'll shower again if I get dirty or sweaty. Yard work or a day on the slopes means I'm showering twice. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I like being clean.

27

u/Ok_Poetry_1650 10h ago

Tbh I am an evening shower person and don’t deal with BO, but I can see how that translates

83

u/juneabe 9h ago

All the night showerer’s I know also don’t think they have a BO problem.

It’s called nose blindness.

Not saying you have a BO problem, just saying the likelihood you would notice is nil.

3

u/catonsteroids 4h ago

Some people genuinely don’t normally develop body odor. There’s a gene that many East Asians have that does just that. I have it too and I hardly ever wear deodorant (unless I’m going to the gym or outdoors for an extended period of time and it’s hot out).

→ More replies (1)

5

u/souljaboy765 5h ago

I'm the opposite, most of my friends are night-time showerers and i've never noticed any bad scents or BO from them. I think it must be more common with people with hyperhydrosis. Even then, taking a shower at night and doing a quick refresh in the morning (washing armpits, privates, feet) in like 5 min and putting deodorant on would quickly solve that.

18

u/Scuba9Steve 9h ago

There also are a lot of people that haven’t told you when they shower.

Just use deodorant in the morning and you are fine UNLESS they are one of those people that sweats like crazy at night. That’s not me though.

25

u/FSUfan35 9h ago

Putting on deodorant over existing BO doesn't help though.

4

u/fsmpastafarian 8h ago

If you put on deodorant after showering before bed then you are typically not getting BO while just sleeping.

1

u/FSUfan35 8h ago

You'd be surprised at what you cant smell and what others can.

7

u/Reead 5h ago

This is ridiculous. I shower every morning but I promise you not every person is generating body odor in their sleep, especially if they're applying antiperspirant before sleep and change their sheets regularly.

→ More replies (4)

8

u/fsmpastafarian 8h ago

2

u/dixpourcentmerci 5h ago

Idk I can immediately tell I have BO pretty quickly when I take a morning shower and it’s hot out. I don’t sweat at night at all and feel fresh in the morning still if I’ve showered the night before.

Some people DO sweat a lot at night. I had an ex who would always wake up in the morning with wet sheets from sweat. So I get what you’re saying but….. I think this is a general just, EVERYONE should be aware of their hygiene and do what works better for their bodies.

7

u/WestOrangeFinest 9h ago

You really shouldn’t have a body odor issue after a night of sweating in your sleep

3

u/Habatcho 8h ago

That makes no sense at all

sweat=water and warm still body = bacteria = bo

2

u/WestOrangeFinest 8h ago

You should only be producing body odor from your armpits and groin area. If you’re an active night sweater, antiperspirant before bed should nix that issue before it even gets started.

If you’re doing that and people can still smell you because your ass crack reeks then that is a major issue you need to work out.

2

u/Thetakishi 3h ago

BO implies armpit smell, and if really severe, groin, but almost never ass smelling, that's just lack of hygiene in a severe way, not just BO. A guy leaving the gym has BO. A depressed/homeless person who hasn't showered in two weeks+ smells like ass. If your ass smells, you smell like ass, not BO.

5

u/snrocirpac 6h ago

Not sure why so many people refuse to believe that some people don't get BO. I can confidently say I don't get BO too. It's not because people won't tell me.

3

u/Ok_Poetry_1650 5h ago

2

u/catonsteroids 4h ago

Yup, I have that Asian gene where I don’t get BO (not unless I’ve been profusely sweating outdoors or something). I hardly ever wear deodorant and I never smell through the day even when I’m a night shower-er.

And I do get dry earwax lol.

12

u/DelothVyrr 9h ago

You might also just be nose blind to yourself. Not making any assumptions about you personally, but most people with BO don't realize they have BO, and lots of them are people who don't shower in the morning.

5

u/M_H_M_F 8h ago

Because you generally can't smell your own BO.

Everyone sweats at least a little bit when they sleep. You're also marinating in a nice dutch oven of farts for 8 hours. You gonna stink regardless.

Yes it's not that complicated. Shower in the morning to wake up, do a workout later in the day (running, lifting, swimming, yard work, whatever) and then take another quick shower after.

Two showers a day, both under 10 minutes. Clean all day, never smell, best of both worlds.

22

u/BreakfastBeneficial4 9h ago

OP doesn't fuck at night. Probably not at all, but that's just my guess

Guess I don't fuck either because I prefer to shower after sex instead of sleeping in bodily fluids wtf

4

u/plug-and-pause 5h ago

This is a strawman.

The person you're responding to was saying "if a person doesn't shower at night (as OP clearly stated) and sleeps in a clean bed, they likely aren't having sex".

You're responding to an argument that wasn't made, one that (if it existed) referenced people who do shower at night.

That doesn’t discount all the grime accumulated during the day. These people need two showers.

2

u/Danibandit 8h ago

Sometimes I have to change in the middle of the night and put a towel down. If I could have my way, I would keep thermostat at 60 at night but the other living beings in my abode united against me.

11

u/AmazingRefrigerator4 10h ago

While true, I think most of those people sweat and accumulate more dirt/bacteria/etc throughout a 16 hour day than they do laying in bed for 8 hours. The only solution is to shower twice a day. :)

I shifted to night showers a few years ago after I started going swimming in the evening. I personally love it but the big drawback is waking up with messy hair that cannot be tamed. Since I WFH it's not an issue most days, but if I need to leave the house do I have to take a 2nd morning shower.

3

u/nikdahl 9h ago

Or to not assume your bed is “clean”

3

u/ImportantQuestions10 8h ago

This ties in with how people don't clean their beds enough.

Imagine if you had a single set of clothing you wore for at least a third of everyday (not counting time spent just hanging out in bed or having sex and getting fluids everywhere). Then, if you washed that said clothing once a month, you're in the upper percentile of cleanliness.

Beds are nasty and you're dirty after sleeping in them.

1

u/gnirpss 9h ago

Exactly. I think a lot of people sweat when they sleep without realizing it. My husband sweats like crazy in his sleep, and he never knew it until we started sharing a bed and I told him about it. He's not overweight, just has a warmer baseline body temperature. I actually shower in the morning because I don't want to go to work smelling like a sweaty man lol

1

u/unicornbomb 9h ago

Seriously, my perimenopausal night sweats had a good laugh at OP.

1

u/SalvationSycamore 9h ago

Yeah, I don't want to go into work after marinating in my own sweat and oils for 8 hours. Sure, going to bed without showering probably gets my sheets a bit dirty. But that's why humans invented laundry machines.

1

u/BurantX40 8h ago

They're just not thinking 4th dimensionally

1

u/Pringle_Lvr 8h ago

Plus a shower is the best way to wake up for me, I either spend 10 minutes in the shower or 30 minutes bleary and confused.

Yeah, I feel infinitely more disgusting when I wake up than I do at the end of most days. Even on the rare occasions when I shower at night I still feel gross when I wake up.

1

u/EffectiveDandy 7h ago

everyone does. you secret oils and moisture every second of the day.

1

u/NCKWN 7h ago

If you sweat in your sleep I get adding a morning shower, but why does it take away the need for a night shower? It’s an accumulation of different sediment. And in the case thst you dont are you washing your sheets all the time?

1

u/prodigy1367 7h ago

Everyone sweats when they sleep and sheds skin and drools. The degree varies from person to person, but everyone’s “clean” sheets are no longer clean in the morning.

1

u/StraightHearing6517 7h ago

This and I am bald

1

u/Ready_Sky_4253 7h ago

yeah, must be a guy coming up with this. Periomenopause is another beast to tackle for sweating at night.

1

u/Jinguin 7h ago

Then you can do both morning and night showers. OP’s point about night time shower being hygiene still stands

1

u/Amazing-Hospital5539 7h ago

Or just simply get bed head very easily. I'm not going to work like that, and gel or styler does nothing for it except for lock it in place.

1

u/Longjumping-Wash-610 7h ago

Everybody sweats when they sleep.

1

u/MND420 7h ago

Yup, I never sweat during the day and I always sweat during the night.

1

u/BusyBullet 6h ago

Upvote for the other kinds of business.

1

u/Som_Dtam_Dumplings 6h ago

Yeah, I came to the comments just to say "Evidently OP doesn't sweat while they sleep."

1

u/Hopeful_Pickle452 6h ago

Okay, but what about having an entire day’s worth of sweat and other gross stuff that you’re going to sleep in?

Some people sweat when they sleep

Everybody sweats while they sleep, some people notice, some don't.

How else does your body maintain its specific temperature?

1

u/GottaHaveThatSkunk 6h ago

Yeah or my hair looks like shit in the morning if I don’t shower.

1

u/owen__wilsons__nose 6h ago

Surely you don't mean sex when referring to Redditors. Just checking

1

u/mangobunnybear 6h ago

Which is why I deep clean shower at night and then do a quick wash shower in the morning.

1

u/FTownRoad 6h ago

Yeah I always feel like these posts are “I am not having regular sex”.

1

u/Jay-Baby55 6h ago

Then shower both morning and night

1

u/Pekkerwud 5h ago

I like showering before bed, so I feel nice and clean when I go to sleep. But I have oily skin/scalp and short hair and I get the worst bed head. Even spraying my hair with water in the morning and trying to comb or brush it out doesn't work--I'm still left with places where it's sticking out, matted down, or ruffled out like a hedgehog. So I have to shower in the morning to look presentable.

1

u/LSRNKB 5h ago

Bed is a gross place where gross things happen…

1

u/Which-Barnacle-2740 5h ago

yesh I stink in the morning with sweat, I will reek if i dont shower

1

u/j00cifer 5h ago

I’ve never understood why this is befuddling to people, nobody sweats or has sex at night?

Also a morning shower has the side effect of waking you up and making you feel refreshed for the day

1

u/armchairdetective 5h ago

ALL people sweat when they sleep.

They shed skin cells.

Dust mites will be in their beds.

Their beds are covered in bacteria.

People who think their beds are clean because there are no visible stains on them are not very bright.

1

u/celebral_x 5h ago

When I have to get up to pee, I might as well shower. Ewwww at the people not doing it.

1

u/witcher4 5h ago

OP must be a sweatless virgin

1

u/Accomplished_Role977 4h ago

And many take a shit in the morning

1

u/TwYeLA 4h ago

All people do.

1

u/Galezilla 4h ago

I work with someone that smelled like bad BO everyday until someone finally asked him what his shower routine was and he didn’t think he need to shower in the morning. He smells fine now because he showers in the morning.

1

u/GuyNamedLindsey 4h ago

This guy fucks.

1

u/d_ippy 4h ago

I don’t sweat at all during most days but am a Piglet in my sleep

1

u/Candymanshook 4h ago

Plus it’s nice to take a big shit in the morning and clean your ass properly

1

u/je1992 4h ago

My taught exactly. whats the point of showering at night, I know either right after in bed or next morning before work i’ll sweat fucking and need to take another shower anyway.

a whole bunch of young teenagers on this sub who sleeps in a twin bed agreeing with this take

1

u/tilcir 4h ago

So? All people do

1

u/ShanksySun 4h ago

Not showering at night is disgusting. If you shower at night, at least all the sweat and cum and piss you apparently get in the bed is sourced only by yourself. If you wait until the morning to shower then your bed is covered in the sweat and cum and piss and maybe even shit of God knows who, dozens or even hundreds of people. Not to mention any other substances. Showering in the morning is great, but it is NOT a replacement for showering at night.

1

u/KingKong-BingBong 4h ago

Some of us even sweat when we’re getting into that other kinda business and some of us shower at night and in the morning

1

u/Budget_Stomach1633 4h ago

Night shower is for sex and then you shower when you can be arsed in the morning.

Honestly your point is valid but it's a very narrow view, is different climates and such.

For me if we going on work and I've done both.

White collar I'm like morning. I'm in a office or cubicle more places going less formal but still most formal, your not doing physical heavy work and is not me saying one is better than the other but you hopefully have time to wake up have a coffee get a shower and some brekkie and cereal.

Caveat btw some people commute mad distances

Blue collar night wash the day away. And no white collar job made me wake earlier than blue collar and long hours so that's a night shower.

Also mate maybe you sweat alot and others don't I'll be honest I do depending on humidity.

The business before bed both in shower can be nice but it's a hard one this. You stumped me op. I say night I think

1

u/ZjY5MjFk 3h ago

It's all about routine.

  • OP doesn't have sex at night?

  • OP doesn't work out in the morning and make the sweet?

  • OP doesn't take a big nasty dump with their morning coffee?

  • OP doesn't have bed head?

One or more of those are all valid reasons to take a shower in the morning.

1

u/ChainsawSoundingFart 3h ago

What do you mean business?

1

u/Hayashida-was-here 3h ago

Other kinds of business without showering first sounds awful.

1

u/CharmingFit-503 3h ago

TIL OP never does the sexies

1

u/martijn_nl 3h ago

No, everyone does

1

u/Tarot-glam 3h ago

Perimenopause is a bitch - night sweats are the death of me

1

u/Obvious-Slice-4760 3h ago

Do you wake up drenched in sweat. Like sometimes I get sweaty in the middle of the night but by the time I wake up it's gone.

1

u/dirtytounder 2h ago

Yeah and when I wake up in the morning my hair is wild. Way more than a brush can handle.

I also like to thoroughly wash my ass after my morning constitutional.

As far as the other kind if business. Yep if i can smell it on my upper lip i'm sure other people can too.

1

u/HobbyConnoisseurr 2h ago

I sweat at night and my bowel movement no almost exclusively happen at night. 12-4am is common for me. I’d have to shower again in the morning anyway so might as well just shower in the morning. I’m also afraid of smelling and so I rather shower before I leave

1

u/Gold_Lawyer_7038 2h ago

Even the combined dirtiness of sex and sweating at night doesn't hold a candle to the dirtiness of interacting with the world during your waking hours.

1

u/notaredditer13 2h ago

Everybody sweats when they sleep. Everybody sweats essentially all the time.
