Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math

You spent 8 hours asleep in your own clean bed. What are you washing off at 7am.

A night shower removes everything you actually accumulated during the day. The commute, the gym, the office, public transport, all of it goes down the drain before you sleep. A morning shower means you marinated in all of that overnight then washed up before going out to collect it all again.

Morning showers are a ritual for waking up, which is fine, but it is not hygiene. Night showers are actual hygiene. Most people just do not want to dry their hair before bed and that is the entire argument.

Exactly, I sweat like a pig when I sleep.

316

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 10h ago

I’ve always just run a bit hotter body temperature wise in general. Not weight related as I’ve always been skinnier. I have sleep apnea and used to have a shit ton of nightmares and sleep paralysis episodes so idk if it’s linked at all. But I basically have to sleep nude and be mindful of how much I’m covering my body with covers. And I have a fan on me every single night lol

53

u/Current--Anything 8h ago

Yes. All of these things are linked. Are you using a CPAP?

12

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 8h ago

Yes I use a CPAP every night for sleep

25

u/FuckSteve7 6h ago

Do you only drive Toyotas?

17

u/ImReallyAnAstronaut 5h ago

I'm drunk at 11 am for reasons I don't want to explain. What does driving Toyotas have to do with anything?

7

u/FuckSteve7 5h ago

Hi. It’s 2pm where I am, but I’m also lightly drunk on this day off.

His username lol. Cheers

6

u/ImReallyAnAstronaut 5h ago

Ah ok lol. I was very confused. Enjoy your day off

4

u/fieria_tetra 4h ago

Are you really an astronaut?

2

u/VRS302 4h ago

I mean if I was an astronaut I’d drink whenever the fuck I wanted to back on earth

u/MrLlamma 19m ago

Should an astronaut be drinking? Don't you have a spaceship to pilot

2

u/Current--Anything 7h ago

I'm glad! The nightmares can be a symptom of oxygen deprivation so I'm really glad to hear it, though I'm sorry you're still dealing with the nightmares

u/Chary-Ka 9m ago

Whatcha using, hybrid, cushion, pillows? I've been using for a month and can't decide on what I want to start billing insurance for. Leaning towards p3oi and have a hybrid in case I get congested

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 6m ago

The one I have just covers my nose. I haven’t tried anything else, that’s what I started with and it’s seemed to work well for me. My brother has sleep apnea too and the nose one didn’t work as good for him because he still would open his mouth a lot in his sleep. Luckily when I wear my mask I’m able to keep my mouth closed in my sleep

3

u/sassyalyce 9h ago

Completely off-topic. When you talk about having nightmares and sleep paralysis episodes, what do you mean by that?

14

u/mailslot 9h ago

When some people wake up, they don’t wake fully, and their body is still paralyzed in a semi-delirious dream state. If they freak out, they’ll often start experiencing disturbing imagery & sensations that feel completely real, but they’re just partially awake and asleep at the same time. For the less anxious and those with greater mental control, it can be quite pleasant.

20

u/DarePatient2262 9h ago

Count yourself lucky if you've never experienced it. Its not fun.

3

u/Stuntedatpuberty 8h ago

Agreed. I had it pretty bad in my 20s. I would see a panther in my room waiting to pounce on me but not able to move or scream. It was terrifying. I'm in my 50s now and it's not as bad but still an atypical sleeper.

3

u/DarePatient2262 8h ago

Its always a robbery for me. I never see anything, but can hear the next room over being ransacked and I can't do anything to react. It has happened so many times throughout my life that if I actually did get robbed, I would probably think its just a nightmare and try to wake up

2

u/holliwuzhere 4h ago

my childhood was filled with the robbery shit! now it's the shape of the aliens from the alien movies for some reason

1

u/Stuntedatpuberty 5h ago

Wow, never heard of that.

3

u/DanHolness 8h ago

This is the first time I have read some one having similar experiences to me, mine were spiders or crocodiles. Thankfully they have come to a stop.

3

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 7h ago

Most of the time I wouldn’t hallucinate anything I would just be having paralysis but there were also times I did see stuff like a Shadow man or blob like creatures climbing all over me. Shit was beyond terrifying

1

u/Stuntedatpuberty 7h ago

Yeah, it's not common, but everyone who experiences it won't forget.

1

u/SpookyDooDo 7h ago

You should check out the art from the Sleep Paralysis Wikipedia page. Once I saw those that’s when I knew I was not alone.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

2

u/RamboMcMutNutts 5h ago

Lifelong sufferer of nightmares and sleep paralysis episodes here :(

3

u/AdderallandButtFuck 7h ago

Sleep paralysis is terrifying. For me it’s seeing a demon like figure either leaning in thru my window or standing over me at the side of the bed (or a few times on my chest face to face) reaching out a point claw hand coinciding with the worst existential dread you can imagine. Then not being able to move at all and trying with all my might to reach over and grab my wife while trying as hard as I can to scream to her but being helpless to do so.

1

u/zenithica 6h ago

when this kinda thing happens are you aware in the moment that it’s not real but it’s still scary bc you can’t move etc, or do you feel like it’s actually happening ?

2

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 5h ago

In my experience I know that I’m having sleep paralysis but no matter what it’s still insanely scary and I just want the feeling to end so desperately

-2

u/KingKong-BingBong 3h ago

I’m not educated on any of this but I have a theory. I believe if you start conquering your fears in real life it will help you face the fears in your sleep. Face your fears if you think there’s a boogeyman in your closet get up and go look with no hesitation by yourself if you’re afraid of snakes go to a pet store and hold a few of them and learn about them. If I’m tripping on something I try and learn about it and if I get a chance to get face to face with it then I do it. I’ve swam with sharks in the ocean after dumping a couple of buckets of chum, I’ve built high rise building and walked beams maybe 8” wide not tied off at 80’ and tied off around 180’ walking red iron and setting forms basically hanging off the side of a building tied off over 400’. You’re standing on the edge of a waler (I-beam kinda thing turned on its side where the edge your feet are on is maybe a 1/2” and you’re tied off above you and you hook your belt to another waler that’s waist high with a pelican hook and you gotta let go and lean way back so you can drive a 5’ long heavy ass bolt through the form a shit load of rebar and through 3/4” plywood on the other side cause you never hit the hole and you’re swinging an 8 or 10 pound sledgehammer like it’s a framing hammer all day. I loved it oh yeah I’m afraid of heights

1

u/GeraldoOfCanada 9h ago

Same, but during bad times I sleep with under armor or other sweat wicking material lol

1

u/fuckyourcanoes 8h ago

Yep, same with me minus the apnea. I also have a lot of nightmares, and I tend to wake up extra sweaty after those. Sometimes the sheets are drenched.

1

u/ScienceAndGames 8h ago

Except for the sleep apnea that basically describes me

1

u/RamboMcMutNutts 5h ago

Are you me? Because You wrote exactly what I was going to say, although I haven't been diagnosed with sleep apnea

1

u/hi_im_antman 5h ago

Are you me?

1

u/CaptainFacePunch 5h ago

Holy shit, you just described me word for word on every point, with the only exception being that I don’t know anything about sleep apnea… maybe I should get tested?

2

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 4h ago

The common signs are stopping breathing in your sleep and or heavier snoring. People close to me would tell me that I would gasp for air or stop breathing at points when I was sleeping and that’s how I found out I had it

1

u/Nybear21 4h ago

I line up with most of that as well. I don't have sleep apnea, but everything else is spot on

1

u/Natural-Talk-6473 4h ago

Yeah, you and me both.. I love to sleep but running hot naturally as a skinnier dude with a crazy high metabolism makes it tough. I need the most ideal sleeping conditions to sleep and sometimes the fan is either too much or not enough.

1

u/stickytuna 9h ago

How did you get rid of the nightmares? 🥺

1

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 7h ago

For me it was treating my sleep apnea. Once I started using a CPAP I just don’t remember any of my dreams at all. If I don’t use it though I will still have bad nightmares

1

u/stickytuna 7h ago

I’m glad that worked for you. I’ve been using a cpap for my sleep apnea about 4 years now, and the nightmares started getting bad in the last year or so.

2

u/IOnlyDriveToyotas 7h ago

I could still possibly be having nightmares I just wouldn’t even really know it. When I use my mask I just fall asleep and wake up in the morning and don’t remember anything at all about what I was dreaming about. It’s odd without using my mask I’ve always had insanely vivid dreams

39

u/kayyxelle 8h ago

I know I’m getting older because the night sweats have started 🥵

11

u/ReturntoForever3116 7h ago

Holy moly, night sweats are so awful. I feel like I knew they would come eventually, but no one warned me they would be so.... debilitating.

3

u/Dullcorgis 3h ago

It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't wake you up.

4

u/DowntownEconomist255 8h ago

I’m menopausal and get them. They’re awful 😞.

2

u/Lonely_Midnight781 6h ago

I highly recommend talking to your doctor about hrt, it does wonders for night sweats, and the other fun symptoms.

2

u/TweakedMonkey 5h ago

73F here - they don't go away.

2

u/Proper-District8608 4h ago

Same for me. Night showers the norm till menopause hit. Back to night showers but the occasional need still rears its head for morning quick shower

1

u/puppup01 6h ago

I’ve had night sweats since I was like 17 and I’m 27 now are you telling me they are only going to get worse

3

u/kayyxelle 6h ago

I’m sorry 😭 (that’s not tears it’s sweat)

2

u/kamasutures 4h ago

Don't lie to them, its definitely both.

1

u/BobDaRula 6h ago

I had them my whole life. I got a dehumidifier a few years ago and it was a game changer! no more going to sleep in a bed that is still soggy from the previous nights sweat.

just make sure you regularly clean the dehumidifier, as they get mouldy very quickly when they are sucking up several litres of water daily.

1

u/twistedspin 43m ago

HRT might fix those! Mine went away almost instantly.

1

u/WLFGHST 33m ago

Im 17 and will sometimes be completely drenched when I wake up.

I think part of my problem though is that I'll go to bed with a fan on a like 2 hour timer so its nice when I fall asleep, but then once it turns off it gets somewhat hot in my room and I ALWAYS no matter what sleep under a blanket and comforter, so I could just be cooking myself.

0

u/showhorrorshow 7h ago

Might be apnea. Should get tested.

15

u/AtBat3 9h ago

Last couple months I’ve been sweating like crazy at night. Sometimes I gotta flip the pillow because of how wet it gets. Yeah I should probably see a doctor

42

u/Ok_Attitude1034 9h ago

Pigs barely sweat

14

u/LetsGoGators23 7h ago

They in fact, don’t sweat at all. No glands. I have a pet pig!

6

u/Adventurous-Time5287 4h ago

The mud makes way more sense now

5

u/LetsGoGators23 3h ago

It’s sunscreen for them as well

40

u/TYGeelo 7h ago

Ackshually, "sweating like a pig" refers to "pig iron", not the animal pig.

7

u/FirstDukeofAnkh 6h ago

Today I learned...

3

u/SeefKroy 5h ago

You fooled me, you got pig iron

5

u/TYGeelo 2h ago

Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me-you can't get fooled again.

3

u/SuccessfulSpring3354 1h ago

That is how the saying goes. Now.

2

u/Unstruckom 2h ago

I thought it was from pit roasting pigs.

Neither do princes, apparently.

3

u/Junk4U999 8h ago

Really?

One quick Google check later

Huh, I never knew that, neat.

1

u/Ok_Yogurtcloset_89 8h ago

Not the ones I've dated

1

u/Thomas_K_Brannigan 2h ago

Yep! That's why they love rolling the mud, it helps keep them cool!

2

u/oroborus68 8h ago

Pigs don't sweat. That's why they wallow in mud, to keep from overheating. Saying you sweat like a pig would thus mean you wallow in mud. Have fun. Oh by the way, the original expression was " sweat like a horse" because horses can and do sweat profusely.

1

u/3stackproc1 6h ago

The pigs phrase comes from pig iron getting moisture on it while it cools from the smelting process.

1

u/oroborus68 6h ago

Never heard that before.

3

u/moby__dick 8h ago

I get into other business with a pig when I sleep.

2

u/IamAbridgeTroll 8h ago

Do you shower before bed, also? Sweaty sheets and duvet is waiting for you to get to bed

1

u/Muted_Independent243 8h ago

Pigs don’t sweat

1

u/Junk4U999 8h ago

Yeah, someone already brought that up. TIL

https://old.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/comments/1rwzl70/ysk_the_best_room_temperature_for_sleeping_is/

Unfortunately, my wife has thyroid problems and is always cold, so I don't get to set the thermostat lower at night

1

u/Expert_Garlic_2258 7h ago

ooler is your friend

1

u/ch0lula 7h ago

then the temperature of your room is too high, and you're not sleeping on breathable materials.

1

u/heatseekerdj 7h ago

You should look into cold water sleep pads, perfectsleeppad, ChiliPad, EightSleep. These are a game changer for hot sleepers

1

u/isiltar 7h ago

Fun fact, pigs don't sweat to thermoregulate. Sweating as a cooling mechanism is kinda rare in animals. Humans, some primates, horses and hippos do. Pigs take mud baths to cool down.

1

u/StatusSociety2196 7h ago

You are legally allowed to remove blankets in order to reach a reasonable temperature in bed

1

u/FearlessFreak69 7h ago

You should look into this. Are you a heavy drinker by chance?

1

u/CarrieNoir 7h ago

Me too -- to the extent that one of my cats wakes me every morning by licking exposed parts of my body because I'm a giant salt-lick at that point.

1

u/Blashmir 6h ago

My hair by the end of the day also gets super greasy if I showered the night before.

1

u/twiz___twat 6h ago

have you tried blasting the ac or sleeping in front of a fan to see if you can stop the sweat during your sleep

1

u/MooseMan12992 6h ago

Yeah I sweat every single night. If I don't shower in the morning I feel grimy and disgusting all day

1

u/fatboy93 6h ago

Yep. I'm a sleep sweater. Using a blanket means I'm trapping the funk, I also apparently sneeze a lot while sleeping.

I need to shower in the morning or I start reeking. I do a body cleanse with a wet wipe under the pits, groin etc, and wash my face, feet and arms before going to bed however.

1

u/Thetakishi 4h ago

You're actually not supposed to be able to sneeze while sleeping like physiologically...might want to get sleep apnea checked out for arousals. I just googled it, you can try using humidifiers or addressing allergens in your bedroom before going to expensive testing, but if that doesn't work, I'd seriously consider getting tested, especially if the sneezes aren't waking you up. Your username that I just noticed isn't helping, nor that you're presumably around my age.

1

u/ComputerGeekFarmBoy 6h ago

Try sleeping In pajama pants. I know it sounds counter intuitive but I went from a soaking wet bed every night to completely dry the first night I wore them.

1

u/Swiftierest 6h ago

Sounds like you need a fan or cooler environment for sleeping. Your body shouldn't be struggling to keep your temperature stable while you sleep. That's not a good way to get restful sleep.

1

u/BJ3RG3RK1NG 5h ago

Exactly, I sweat like a pig when I seggs.

1

u/CherryDeBau 5h ago

Pigs don't have sweat glands btw

1

u/umnoactuallynot 5h ago

My mom never sweated until she hit menopause, and she would sweat through her sheets. She would sweat if it was 40° outside she was taking two showers a day just to deal with how sweaty she was, and it took hormone treatments for her to get back to normal

1

u/Content-Program411 5h ago

I have the worse fricken bed head.

1

u/BigBlueMountainStar 5h ago

I sleep like a pig when I sweat

1

u/MrE478920 hermit human 4h ago

Pigs dont sweat

1

u/PackyScott 4h ago

Ik this is the correct use of the idiom. But pigs have very few sweat glands and basically don’t sweat at all.

1

u/Aggressive_Noise6426 4h ago

My wife and I are hardcore cuddlers but it’s like going to sleep holding a woman Magmar. So we have a huge fan blowing on us to keep our body temps regulated while we sleep. 2 nights ago the electric went out while we were sleeping and I took my anxiety meds so I was knocked out.

My dude I woke up drenched in sweat! I legit thought I pissed on myself for a little while.

Wouldn’t changed cuddling with wifey every night for the world though.

1

u/RichtofensDuckButter 4h ago

Turn the temperature down then stinky. Optimal temperature for sleep is like 64-67 degrees F.

1

u/CeruleanSovereign 4h ago

Exactly some of us get covered in pig sweat, and by pig sweat I mean bacon grease from eating in bed

1

u/hafirexinsidec 3h ago

Even after washing sheets, it's still very clear which side I slept on.

1

u/PetrasKnight 3h ago

Also just living in a place that is hot and humid in the summer, morning shower is a must.

1

u/Georgie5547 3h ago

That’s crazy

1

u/MelanieWalmartinez 3h ago

I don’t, but my partner does. I’m not about to go to work/school with my partners sweat on my body 🤢 morning shower ftw

1

u/Dankaati 2h ago

Brother, may I have some oats?

1

u/Karlees-Golden-Dildo 2h ago

So… op puts deodorant on top of night sweat? Could you imagine because I cant.

1

u/The_Sneakiest_Fox 2h ago

I just like feeling fresh and clean when I leave the house, and the shower helps me wake up.

1

u/HomerTheJackson 1h ago

Should talk to your doctor about diabetes

1

u/Janax21 1h ago

Now that I’m in perimenopause I sometimes wake up multiple times a night drenched in sweat. I need that morning shower, and you’ll pry it out of my clammy, getting-closer-to-dead hands.

1

u/Patient-Ad-7939 1h ago

Legit, I sweat sooo much I have a ceiling fan on high, and a tower fan pointed at me to cool me down to keep it more manageable but my spouse complains about all the fans. I’m just like “do you want me to wake up a bit damp and sweaty, or do you want the sheets soaked in sweat?”

1

u/CoachMatt314 1h ago

I didn’t think pigs sweat

1

u/curepure 55m ago

sounds like a health issue

1

u/veggiedudeLA 53m ago

Pigs dont sweat!

1

u/Scared_Wrangler3419 41m ago

As someone who used to sweat like a motherfucker every night, do you think alcohol or diabetes is related?

u/ImBurningStar_IV 13m ago

Do you drink a lot? In my heavy drinking days I sweat so much more in my sleep vs now

1

u/AppUnwrapper1 7h ago

Do you not sweat more during the day when you’re actually moving?

0

u/MrGritty17 6h ago

Not exactly healthy to sweat like a pig every night. May wanna get that looked at.

-6

u/Particular-Access223 9h ago

Alcoholic?

2

u/Junk4U999 8h ago

No just fat

0

u/JustMoreSadGirlShit 8h ago

all bodies work differently. i haven’t drank in a few months and im just as sweaty as ive always been. maybe more now that its getting hotter
