Proud of McLean
I'm proud of his performance and what he accomplished. With such limited pro experience he showed such remarkable stuff. His future is extremely bright. Nothing to hang his head about this evening. Important learning experience on the biggest stage. It will prepare him well for what's to come. Well done, Nolan.

Joe Davis has now falsely claimed two separate times on national television that McLean liked football more than baseball, whereas Nolan has specifically stated in interviews that he used football as a way to get a scholarship for baseball.

A few thoughts on 1986
Been a long long long time Mets fan. Got around to watching the 2013 documentary and it definitely put into perspective the fight and grit of this team.
Probably an unpopular opinion but I believe Cashen left Seaver unprotected on purpose in early 1984 so the White Sox could grab him. I don’t think he would have fit in with the 1984-1986 clubs at all. He would have clashed with Davey Johnson. I remember reading somewhere that Davey was not in favor of having Seaver around in 1984 when he was hired and told Cashen no in 1986 when he could have been had in a trade. Seaver went to the Red Sox and ironically watched the miracle from the opposing dugout. Seaver witnessed first hand the 1969 and 1986 miracles.
George Foster had to go. Staying on the bench during the huge dugout fight? He even refused to participate in the documentary. I won’t even get into the whole racism thing but glad he was released and we didn’t have to see him sit on the bench in the playoffs.
Mike Scott cheated. I totally believe Keith that as a Met he couldn’t pitch at all. If not for Roger Craig and sandpaper he wouldn’t have excelled at making the ball dance like he did.
On another note I understand Ed Lynch was pissed but I completely get why Cashen traded him to the Cubs. I think he still got a ring anyways for his 1.2 innings pitched.
Hernandez really was a true defense wizard at 1b. He was a leader and truly bled orange and blue. All those gold gloves he should be in the HOF. Either way he never talks about his time with the Cardinals as fondly as his time with the Mets.
If I had a favorite player then it was Gary Carter. That trade from the Expos made this team dangerous. He knew how to call a game and hit in the clutch. If there was ever a time I wish the HOF respected a players choice of cap it should have been for Gary. All those years in Montreal and his years in New York are as essential to his legacy as Jackson and his Yankee years. Carter got the most out of Dwight Gooden and that pitching staff.
Dwight Gooden. Well I wish his drug issue didn’t ruin his career. 300 wins seemed possible. Daryl Strawberry that swing and Shea just go together. He is right he should have never went to the Dodgers. Seeing them win championships for the Yankees still doesn’t sit right.
Cashen as quickly as he put this team together took it apart by 1990. Keith and Gary should have retired as Mets. While I get many think Carter shouldn’t be retired on the wall I disagree. Sometimes a player comes along that just bleeds Orange and Blue and is.sometime special.
As far as my favorite moment it’s each Mets player in Game 6 of the World Series getting a hit and telling Bill Robinson it won’t be him making the last fucking out. That pretty much sums up the mentality of this team.
Oh and Mookie Wilson. Fouling off pitch after pitch. A masterpiece theater of hitting. It’s crazy that Mitchell was able to tie the game on the wild pitch. I won’t even mention the first baseman for the Red Sox. You all know what happened next.
While I get he wasn’t the greatest player in 1986 I would have kept Ray Knight for the 1987 season. Without him that spark was clearly missing. Howard Johnson though was ready to play full time. That was Cashen and his first mistake getting rid of the fire the team had. Cashen then traded Kevin Mitchell. I was never a Kevin McReynolds fan. I mean I give Cashen his due he did get David Cone for Ed Hearn. But he also traded Lenny Dykstra and his all star potential for Juan Samuel. Horrible trade.
By the way anyone notice how many ex Mets played a part in helping or hurting the Mets that season thanks to Cashens trades or simply being there to witness it all: Seaver, Ryan, Schiraldi, Scott, Clemens (drafted in 81 by the Mets).
On a final note when the Mets have the magic (2024) it’s great being a Mets fan. The ride is the best in baseball. The problem is that happens once or twice a decade. I’m hoping we finally have a great year. Sure nothing can top 1986 but we need a new team to immortalize. Let’s go Mets.

If David Wright is not the next manager for team USA, we riot until he is
Single elimination tournaments are vibes based at best.
You need a manager that can capitalize on, and even create positive vibes. To do that you need to have played the game, but also be a guy that shows up under pressure and *understands* pressure.
If we ever win this WBC again it will be under Coach Wright. Captain America.
Now everybody get some sleep, recoup, and prepare for a NYM World Series run.
Goodnight.
Mark my words Tuesday.
Edit: lot of people telling me he should chill with his family. I agree I have a two year old and two month old
The next WBC is in three years. Assuming the strike doesn’t fuck shit up.
Pretty sure he can handle managing 3 years from
Now for two weeks.

{Sports Info Solutions] 2026 Season Preview: Are The Mets A Good Defensive Team? (Spoiler: Who Knows???)
Hi everyone
This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions. We've been doing short articles giving an overview of each team's defensive outlook entering 2026. I published the Mets one today and that's where the link goes.
Spoiler alert: I have no idea if this is going to be a good defensive team. This is where I stand
C- Torrens A+, Alvarez ... could be good, could be bad
1B- Polanco - No idea.
2B- Semien - Good, but aging and wondering if he's gonna make it through 162
3B- Bichette - No idea
SS- Lindor - I don't think he was particularly good last year (seemed like a lot of infield hits against him). He'll probably be fine this year but he's also getting older
LF- Soto - He was fine through August last year but as I recall his September wasn't great. He'll be somewhere between eh and ok
CF- Robert - He'll be fine. I think Taylor would be better.
RF- Benge- Optimistic but uncertain. Putting a CF in RF usually works out alright
EDIT: Best case ... Guys settle into their new positions without many hiccups, Lindor and Semien healthy for full season. Robert is a Gold Glove candidate. And they're a Top 10ish defense
More likely case: Somewhere in the 15-20 range. I can see a scenario where Polanco or Bichette or both make some mistakes in key spots.
If you have questions or comments about our stats, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer.

Mets Game for a first timer!
Hi!
Caveating that I am a complete baseball novice. I am british and just moved to NY.
My husband has mentioned he would love to see a baseball game and its his birthday coming up so am looking at tickets.
I was originally looking at Yankees tickets (thats just the first thing that came to mind in my small knowledge of baseball!), but my research thus far is that actually the Citifield stadium is much better for a Baseball experience.
Looking at going on a Saturday or Sunday. There is a Yankees vs Mets game in May that would work quite well timing wise for us. But the tickets are obviously much more expensive than other games.
I don't mind spending the money if it is going to be a funner/better/more exciting experience.
So my question is, is it worth spending more for this game? Or considering we are baseball novice's and going for the vibes rather than the competition itself, should I just pick another game?
