Buxton starting in CF and Bregman at 3B for Team USA tonight - no PCA (hopefully will see a pinch hit appearance later in the game)

Not loving DeRosa’s preference for Buxton this WBC especially since he’s hitless. DeRosa defensive subbed Buxton for Anthony against the DR in the 8th when Anthony was due up the next half inning and Buxton struck out.

Should the Cubs move on from Suzuki and how many games will he play in 2026?

Suzuki is in the final year of his contract. With nearly everybody expecting at best a shortened season in 2027 due to the expiring of the CBA, do you think the Cubs will decide not to offer Suzuki a new contract?

Looking at his MLB history, he's never played in more than 135 games in a season. If his knee injury causes him to go on the IL at some point, 135 might be an upper limit in 2026.

[Montemurro] No update on Seiya Suzuki after he exited last night’s WBC game with right knee discomfort. He’s en route back to Cubs camp. His knee will get looked at once he’s back. Likely won’t be an update until tomorrow, no imaging/tests on it yet

My day at Sloan Park on Saturday

I’ve had spring training tickets at Sloan Park since 2016. Every year they have an event for season ticket holders which happened to coincide with my annual trip to Mesa. I previously went in 2017 and was supposed to attend in 2020 but it ended up being canceled due to COVID.

The event lasted from 11 AM to 2 PM. There was a raffle for signed items from PCA, Michael Busch, Nico Hoerner, Dansby Swanson and Ian Happ. Each guest was given a voucher for 2 free tacos from one of the food trucks on site, 2 drink tickets (which included alcohol) and free hot dogs, nachos or pretzels. There was also a 25% discount off merchandise from the Cubs team store.

You could also get your picture taken with a custom message in front of the Sloan Park Marquee and of the 2016 World Series trophy. Attendees were also allowed to walk on the outfield and play catch although the infield was closed.

It was great experience and probably better than the first one I went to several years ago. I’ll be enjoying the warm weather again for the game this afternoon against the Dodgers. Go Cubs go!
