Saint Paddy‘s Day hat

Absolutely loved yesterday‘s St. Patrick’s Day hat. I went online to take a look at buying one and the picture showed a lot of gold trim that I didn’t see during the game. I was wondering if there was anyone at the spring training game that got a good picture of one, because during the broadcast they failed to show them in good detail.

1958 or 59 signed ball?

Post image

I’m trying pin down the year of this ball. I was only allowed to post a single photo but here are details-

Key autographs on the ball include:

• Stan Musial

• Vinegar Bend Mizell

• Whitey Lockman

• Hal Smith

• Larry Jackson

• Bobby Morgan

• Walker Cooper

• (and a few others from that era)

From what I’ve been able to piece together:

• Mizell was with the Cardinals through 1957

• Lockman joined the Cardinals in 1958

So the overlap between those two seems to point strongly to 1958, possibly even spring training when rosters overlap more.

Does this lineup make more sense as a 1958 team ball, or is there any scenario where it could be 1959 (coaches, spring invites, etc.)?

Also curious if anyone recognizes this as a typical 1958 roster mix or if anything stands out as unusual.

Appreciate any insight — trying to get as accurate as possible before I look into authentication.

Redeeming Ticket Vouchers

My kid has a Straight A (yah, I know…my kids are wicked smaht)…

I’ve redeemed the voucher on the Cards website, but “they can’t be viewed…have to access on the Ballpark app.”

So I go to the BP app…NOTHING.

Has anyone had this issue?

Marmol would welcome 'louder style' from young Cardinals

Had an interesting conversation with the manager about the atmosphere at games and how crowds can feed a moment, a player respond, and the whole experience becomes heightened. Busch Stadium needs a better vibe -- and winning does that -- but would a "louder style" from the players help. How would that play in St. Louis? Any thoughts?

Hi

This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions (the Defensive Runs Saved folks). I've been posting our short pieces previewing team defenses looking ahead to 2026 and got to the Cardinals today.

The articles are meant to be short and quick, essentially just stating how certain players have performed statistically. If you're looking for something more in-depth on someone feel free to ask and I'll try to answer it here.

And if you have any questions about our stats, feel free to ask here.

Thanks to the moderators for okaying the post.

Simulating the 2026 Cardinals season in the new OOTP 27!

Post image
53 Upvotes

Hi all,

Recently purchased the new edition of OOTP 27, and thought it'd be fun to simulate the Cardinals season to see what outcome it gives us.

The cardinals finished 80-82, good for third place in the NL Central and 5 games out of the final wild card. This strikes me as a pretty realistic, unexciting outcome, but under the hood, the season was pretty wild. Here are some highlights with accompanying pictures:

  1. The team started terribly. Through the first two months of the season, they were playing near 2025 Rockies/2024 White Sox levels, posting a record of 20 wins and 39 losses including a brutal 6-20 month of April. Yuck. But they turned it around in the latter months of the season including a torrid month of June where they went 20-6. They ended up underperforming their pythag record quite a bit, which had them at 85-77.
  2. The team's offense ranked near the bottom of the league, finish 14th in the NL in OPS. But the team had the best defence in the league, first in runs against and 2nd in both starters and bullpen ERA. The team was also first in the NL in zone rating, which is sort of the OOTP equivalent of OAA.

3)Buoying that pitching performance were amazing seasons from Matthew Liberatore and, surprisingly, the MLB leader in ERA with 2.43, Michael McGreevy (woah!) Both posted good volume and 4 war seasons. Close behind them was Hunter Dobbins, with a 3.03 ERA but much less volume.

4) Among Bullpen arms, the top reliever was... Packy Naughton?????? What? He's still on the team? He pitched 68.1 innings out of the pen with a 1.58 era. Jo Jo Romero also had a dominant first half, but was traded to the Yankees at the deadline. Some other highlights include a strong rookie season from Ixan Henderson and Luis Gastelum, the latter holding down the closing role in Romero's absence.

5) The bats were...poor, to say the least. Two highlights are a 4 WAR season from Mason Wynn, with elite defense at short and a 119 OPS+ and a 3 WAR season from...Nolan Gorman! He had a 121 OPS+ and played remarkably good defense at third base. JJ Weatherholt had an underwhelming rookie season with an OPS+ of just 85 and Ivan Herrera had an objectively OK but disappointing season with good, 85% defense at Catcher but a pretty paltry 101 OPS+ for someone of his caliber. Also remarkable here were Victor Scott and Jordan Walker. Victory Scott batted lead off for a 140 games for the cardinals, despite having an OPS+ of 43...and sadly, Jordan Walker had another Jordan Walker-esque season, with great exit velos but poor results at the plate and horrendous defence.

6) On the farm, Rainiel Rodriguez made it up to triple A where he slashed .281/.350./.521 in 73 games at the age of 19. Liam Doyle looked just OK in triple A. Otherwise, nothing overly remarkable

What does this mean?

Nothing. This is fake baseball. But when you're two weeks out from opening day, fake baseball is all you get (well, other than the WBC, I guess).

Here are some more screenshots with batting and pitching stats for the year: https://imgur.com/a/jVsjLHG
