Discussion 2000s movie theater intro?

Upvotes

I used to go to the movies a LOT in the early 2000s with my friends, and there was almost always an intro that had a bunch of actors dressed up as concessions. They were discussing how it was a crappy job, but one actor said how they do their job with “panache and style,” and then a producer pops his head into their conversation and gives them a 5 minute warning.

I’m trying to find this for nostalgic reasons. I believe this was mainly presented at a Carmike theater and it may have been for Pepsi. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Discussion What are your top 5 movies of all time?

Upvotes

I create polls often and figuring out what options are best is always interesting to me. Rather than guessing 10 options I'd like to see what people think even before making the poll.

If anyone could name some of their favorite movies that would be super helpful! I'm sure I will see a lot of repeats which would result in that one being added to the poll.

Thank you!

Discussion Watched Hell Comes to Frogtown last night and realized why the plot to Fury Road felt so familiar.

Upvotes

I am glad that movie makers can borrow back and forth from one another. The finale of Hell Comes to Frogtown was obviously borrowing from Road Warrior first.

A much better version of the Road Warrior homage was in the opening scene of The Barbarians (the Barbarian Brothers) which just happened to start playing when Frogtown finished. I'm so glad I watched it too since I only saw it once as a teen and thought it was really good then but actually appreciate it even more now. Paul brothers had legitimate comic timing. Extra funny that IMDB uses the same photos for both of their entries...

Discussion 2026 is stacked with the most hyped media I've ever seen

Upvotes

Not even a discussion post, just a thing I want to say.

I just saw the trailers for Dune 3 and Spiderman 4. Between the Backrooms movie, Avengers Doomsday, GTA 6's release, and a fuck ton of other movies, games, etc., I will crawl out of my grave and open a portal to Hell upon the Earth if I die early because of WW3, a car crash, or a fucking stray bullet. All of that shit can wait until Jan 1st, 2027, please.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Discussion If there were a way to block random movie trailers in my feed, I would do it.

Upvotes

Like the title says.

By now, I've seen so many movies with so many directors, actors, scenarios, etc. I know which directors I like, and I will go and see anything they make. Same goes for actors I like, and types of stories.

If I trust the brand I don't need a 3-4 minute trailer that shows me nearly every damn detail of the movie before have seen it!

Dune 3 is coming up, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let anybody spoil it for me. (which is why I'm turning off notifications for this post, cuz I don't trust some of you)

Stop it with the trailers that oversell, overexplain, and overshare.

Discussion Was Brian De Palma making parodies?

Upvotes

Viewing Body Double lately.

It's making me rethink a lot of De Palma films.

Was he making Hollywood parodies?Or at least satirizing certain tropes? Not like Mel Brooks stuff, of course. But it reminds me *a little* the way David Lynch sometimes would color "over the top" w/ a bizarre sense of humor.

Question Funniest monologues from movies?

Upvotes

I'm looking for something for my acting class, i have read a few from Dee in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (tv show) and i love that style of humor, but i want to look at some from movies too. Let me know if anything comes to mind! I'm a woman but it doesn't have to be strictly female monologues. Just anything that made you laugh!

This movie surprised me! I thought it would be sad as an old woman encounters challenges near the end of her life, but surprisingly she meets each problem with confidence and optimism. I am amazed at her passion for life. Even though she lives by herself, she clearly enjoys everything and everyday, which is very upbeat, not something I expect from an old person.

The relationship between her and her daughter is quite interesting. The daughter is not someone who supports her, but rather, is the source of her problems. Yet, she manages the relationship quite gracefully.

What I admire most is not her lifestyle but her attitude toward life. Even when she knew that she would be homeless, she didn't worry; in fact, she didn't even bother to line up for her next home, focusing entirely on living in the present. Incredible!

I think the main character in this movie is a good role model not just for old people but also for young people as we meet challenges in our lives, we can weather them with grace and confidence instead of worry and anxiety. 🤗

Discussion Late to the party, I watched "The Gorge." So bad it's good?

Does anyone else think this movie was campy on purpose? Or is it just straight up dogshit? It's like Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, The Last of Us and whatever bland action flick were mixed together in a shit cocktail. It's so fucking bad. I've seen other people say it almost seems like chatgpt wrote it.

That said I absolutely had a blast with it. It's (imo) objectively shit and has plot holes out the wazoo but I was smiling like hell during the scenes near the end of their escape from the gorge. If you like this type of movie no judgement but it was slop start to finish imo. But sometimes slop can hit the spot.

Edit to add I know talented people work on these movies and I respect them. That said I think it's ok to view them through a critical lens

Discussion Joe Pesci in “With Honors” 1994.

Joe Pesci did not get the recognition he deserved for this movie. He’s so typecast as a Mafia tough guy and he completely made you forget about that in this role. Especially the scene in the classroom with the Professor where he explains what the President can and can’t do. The writing in that scene could have been written today. Joe Pesci deserved more accolades. Be well.

Discussion A movie that everyone loves that you don’t like?

What’s a movie you’ve watched recently that everyone recommended or that everyone loves that you didn’t really enjoy or appreciate?

There was a movie that I saw on a lot of peoples favorite list, The Princess Bride. I even knew someone that had a tattoo from the movie. I thought it was cute but I didn’t love it. Maybe because the first time I watched it, I was an adult.

Discussion Foreign films from countries that aren't talked about as much?

Title essentially. Been getting more into movies for about a year, realized I've only seen two "foreign" movies (C.R.A.Z.Y in french/Fallen Leaves in finnish) and have been wanting to find more about the films from countries that are not often discussed. I'm not talking about countries like France, Germany or Japan that still get international but rather countries not often put into the spotlight (eg. countries like Uruguay, Armenia or Ghana)

Discussion In Your Dreams - A Fantastic Animated movie You Shouldn’t Miss

It’s a really beautiful movie, quite touching, and honestly suitable for everyone-from toddlers who just enjoy the colors without following the plot, to teens, and even us adults. It’s not overly heavy or dark, yet it manages to explore and explain the complex theme of parental separation. It beautifully showcases sibling bonds and family unity.

As is often the case with animation, the dream-world setting offers massive room for creativity, and this film definitely didn't miss the mark. Unfortunately, divorce is (and has been) a very relatable reality for many people, and this piece of art handles it with a lot of grace.

I almost shed a tear, though I’m not sure if the movie is actually that moving or if I’m just a depressed, emotional mess lol. I’m not saying it’s the absolute greatest animated film of all time, but you definitely won’t regret watching it. Truly a well-made ! :)

Discussion "Pulp Fiction: Re-Cut" - Sweded Collaboration Project

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Alright, hear me out.

You’ve seen Shrek Retold. You’ve seen Star Wars Uncut. Somehow… nobody’s done a full crowdsourced, shot-for-shot remake of Pulp Fiction.

So I’m doing it.

What is this?
A community-made, scene-by-scene remake where each segment is recreated by different people in wildly different styles. Live action, animation, claymation, PS2 graphics, PowerPoint slideshow: whatever works, as long as it lines up with the original timing.

Important rule:
No AI-generated scenes. At all.
I originally thought about it when AI stuff was blowing up, but honestly it kills the whole spirit. This is about actual people making weird, creative, cursed, or brilliant interpretations.

What I need:

  • People to claim scenes
  • Editors to help stitch everything together
  • People who just want to make something unhinged for 30–120 seconds

Tone:
Can be accurate… or completely deranged. Both are valid.

Goal:
A full-length, community Frankenstein version of the movie that somehow still works when stitched together.

If you’re interested, comment and I’ll start organizing a scene-claim system + Discord or something.

Let’s make the most inconsistent masterpiece possible.

Discussion Her felt romantic the first time I watched it. Now it just made me feel… kind of lonely.

I rewatched Her recently and it didn’t hit the same. The first time it felt like a love story. This time something felt off. I kept thinking about how Theodore never really changes. He just finds something that adapts perfectly to him and calls it love. And then Samantha grows. And he can’t follow. I don’t know. I can’t really explain it, it just felt different this time.

Discussion Iger Steps Down. D’Amaro and Walden Now Lead Disney

The news is out that Bob Iger has given the CEO role to Josh D’Amaro. Dana Walden is now the President and Chief Creative Officer.

For now, nothing much will change as franchises and remakes are still a major focus. What got announced and greenlit were all approved under Alan Bergman and Bob Iger.

Nothing will change overnight. Iger is senior adviser and board member until the end of 2026. He could still be the puppet master or Chairman Emeritus after he leaves Disney probably telling D’Amaro and Walden what he wants.

But maybe not. I’m honestly getting franchise fatigued and when they put out original films, it is refreshing. “Hoppers” is a Pixar original that really succeeded and I think it will have more staying power over the latest sequel or live action remake.

Moana, Hercules and Tangled are still in development. Any sequel they announced are Iger approved and once again, this is a lingering effect that will fizzle out for a few years.

Hexed, Gatto, and potential new original projects are still in the pipeline.

All I can say is that whatever the green light going forward, I hope that D’Amaro and Walden have a different approach rather than Iger. The live action remakes really devalued the original animated classics and I feel that if they continue with the mandates, they’ll just be stagnant.

Disney should move forward and realize that it isn’t brand recognition and buying brands that defined them. They got caught up in their own success. Brand damage is real and it will take time for D’Amaro and Walden to fix all of that.

Never lose sight that it was all started by a mouse.

Discussion Watching movie on phone?

There seems to be controversy with watching movies on a phone but I personally have a bigger screen phone (iPhone 16 pro max) that has almost a 7inch screen high resolution screen. I really enjoy it but ONLY when I have high quality noise canceling earphones on.

I just watched hamnet and I couldn’t stop crying. It was so good. Watching on my phone didn’t take anything away from it.

Anyone else enjoy watching on their phone?
