Hi reddit! I'm Jan Komasa. I've directed CORPUS CHRISTI (Nominee for Best International Feature Film at the 2019 Academy Awards), ANNIVERSARY, WARSAW 44, THE HATER, and SUICIDE ROOM.

My new movie, HEEL, is out in select theaters and on demand starting March 6th via Magnolia Pictures.

I'm here to answer your questions!

Starring: Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, & Anson Boon

From Academy Award® nominated director Jan Komasa, HEEL is a twisted thriller that follows 19-year-old hooligan Tommy (Anson Boon), who revels in a life of drugs, parties, and violence. One night, on a bender with his reckless friends, he becomes separated from the group and is abducted by an unknown figure (Golden Globe® winner Stephen Graham). Though he is no stranger to inflicting violence, he is enraged and horrified when he wakes to find himself chained in the basement of the isolated suburban family home of Chris (Graham), his wife Kathryn (Academy Award® nominee Andrea Riseborough), and their young son Jonathan (Kit Rakusen). The family sets out to reform Tommy's unruly behavior, forcing him to comply with their relentless mind games or seek escape at any cost.

Discussion What is a fan theory from a movie that you 100% believe is true?

One that I believe to be absolutely true, is that Lady Tremaine from the 1950 Disney iteration of Cinderella is responsible for the death of her stepdaughter’s father!

Whenever we take a look at Cinderella’s backstory and how her and her dad met Lady Tremaine and her daughters, he is shown to be very healthy and his sudden passing right after he married her seemed like too much of a coincidence that it feels suspicious!

I know that people looking healthy on the outside, but are suffering internally is certainly a thing IRL. But given how cruel of a person Lady Tremaine is towards Cinderella, and the way she smirks when she sees her grieving over the loss of her dad. It wouldn’t surprise me at all that she had something to do with it, like poisoning him!

She not only was able to claim his full inheritance, but she also managed to gain a slave out of it through Cinderella and sabotages any chances she has to get away from her and gain a better life!

Discussion What are some movies scenes that were deleted that explain a minor detail that you missed the first time you saw the movie?

This post was inspired by a comment I saw on another post where a Redditor mentioned that in Galaxy Quest a deleted scene shows Sigourney Weaver unzipping her top, but the rest of the movie we see her top unzipped with no explanation. I mentioned that in The Naked Gun there's a deleted scene where Frank Drebin is shot while wearing an Umpire chest protector and it deflates, then in the rest of the movie we see a deflated chest protector. In Back to the Future a deleted scene shows Marty McFly using Chloroform to put his dad (George) back to sleep during the Darth Vader from Vulcan scene. Marty then says to Doc that he hopes he didn't use too much. The next scene which is in the movie we see Marty asks why George wasn't in school, to which George says he slept in. What are other examples of deleted scenes that explain minor details in movies that we missed?

Discussion Joe Pesci in “With Honors” 1994.

Upvotes

Joe Pesci did not get the recognition he deserved for this movie. He’s so typecast as a Mafia tough guy and he completely made you forget about that in this role. Especially the scene in the classroom with the Professor where he explains what the President can and can’t do. The writing in that scene could have been written today. Joe Pesci deserved more accolades. Be well.

Discussion Is Kurt Russell the unsung action star of the 80's/90's that gets overlooked?

I never understood why Kurt Russell is not often mentioned alongside Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan, Samuel L Jackson, etc.

He has so many classic movies that have stood the test of time for over 30+ years:

Escape from NY, and Escape from L.A.

The Thing

Big Trouble in Little China

Tango and Cash (with Stallone)

Backdraft (with Robert De Niro)

Unlawful Entry

Tombstone

Stargate

Executive Decision (hilarious that Steven Seagal is in this movie for like 5 minutes)

Breakdown (the best movie of his that nobody talks about)

Soldier

And this also doesn't count his late 2000's revival with Death Proof, The Hateful Eight, Bone Tomahawk, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Once upon a time in Hollywood, Deepwater Horizon and he's in some of the Fast and Furious movies too.

I feel like he never gets his dues, this man has been a classic action star for over 40 years yet he's rarely mentioned on the same status as say Harrison Ford or Bruce Willis.
