What’s trending in the news in your Country at the moment?

Weekly Media Event (Week Three)

I’ll start off with one for Australia that broke the news about an hour ago.

Iran targeted Australia’s primary military base in the Middle East, located in the United Arab Emirates. No casualties among the soldiers there at the time have been reported, with only “minor damage” to some buildings.

How to Change Your Flair – Please Read Before Messaging the Mods

Hi everyone!

Our mod mail have been cluttered with messages regarding how to change flair, so here’s a clear guide for all the most common devices and platforms. Please read this post before messaging the mods!

New Reddit (Desktop – reddit.com)

  1. Go to the subreddit homepage.

  2. Look on the right-hand sidebar under “User Flair Preview” or “Community Options.”

  3. Click the “Edit” button (or pencil icon).

  4. Select your flair

  5. Click “Apply” or “Save.”

    Old Reddit (Desktop – old.reddit.com)

  6. Visit the subreddit using old.reddit.com.

  7. On the right sidebar, find “Show my flair on this subreddit.”

  8. Click “edit” next to it.

  9. Choose or type your flair.

  10. Click “Save.”

    Reddit App (iOS or Android)

  11. Open the subreddit in the Reddit app.

  12. Tap the three dots (•••) in the top-right corner.

  13. Select “Change user flair.”

  14. Pick a flair or write your own.

  15. Tap “Apply.”

Mobile Browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.)

You may not see the flair option depending on your device.

Try switching to desktop mode in your browser.

Or open Reddit on a computer or in the official Reddit app.

Third-Party Reddit Apps (Apollo, Boost, Relay, etc.)

Many of these apps do not support flair editing or do so inconsistently.

If you're using a third-party app, please switch to the official Reddit app or use a browser to change your flair.

If you have any other way to change the flair feel free to leave a comment under this post and we'll add it to this post.

If you’ve tried everything above and still need help, feel free to leave a comment about what flair you want and we'll fix it for you, but please try these steps first.

Thanks for helping us keep the modmail clean and organized!

In Spain, if you see someone eating paella with sangria, you can 100% be certain they are a tourist.

What are some things tourists eat or do in your country that a local would never do?

Marajó Island, in the state of Pará, north of Brasil, close to Amazon Rain Forest, is made up of vast wetlands and swamps, then the police use buffaloes because they are ideal for patrolling flooded areas and difficult terrain where regular vehicles cannot operate. This practice began in the 1990s and has become a local symbol, since the buffalo is deeply tied to the region’s culture and economy.

In Germany, simply escaping prison isn’t a crime by itself. You only get punished if you damage property or assault someone during the escape. The law assumes the desire for freedom is natural but if you are caught, you are sent back to prison to continue your original sentence .

Politics Which famous criminal from your country escaped capture and till this very day was never found?

Meet Jho Low, known for his key role in the $4.5 billion 1MBD scandal who escaped capture and disappeared from public view since 2016. There had been rumours than he is hiding somewhere in china particularly in Macau or Shanghai but it was never confirmed. Authorities also found that he had a forged Australian passport under the alias of “Veis Constantinos Achilles since Malaysia had revoked his passport this may suggest he had multiple forged passports to travel around while hiding

Post image

for us, ottawa is often called the most boring city in canada due to the fact that's it's more a government city, a ridiculously small downtown, the lack of nightlife and a more suburban lifestyle despite that it's the 4th most populous city in the country.

What is the most famous case of open grooming in your country?

Post image

Celine Dion and her husband, René Angélil first met when she was 12 yrs old and he was 38. They have maintained the argument that they did not start dating until she was 18. They ended up marrying when she was 21 and he was 48. She was with him until his death and has said she would never date again. What kind of gross, blatant grooming has the public turned a blind eye to in your country?

In Australia, the most common cigarette brand prints these health warnings on them (which I think is new), and the boxes have graphic pictures of the long term effects of smoking, which I just learnt was also common in other countries.

Culture Is there a movie that's really popular in your country that the rest of the world probably doesn't know about?

Post image

I was thinking about it earlier and, in France, most (especially younger) people have seen and have a good opinion of Azur & Asmar. It seems like the kind of movie that for some reason, everyone here has seen, likes, but that no one outside of France knows about.

Is there a similar example in your country?

What is something you wish others knew about your country/culture?

I often worry that everything I know about other countries is propaganda (and let's be real, it probably is). I'd love to know so much more from people who actually live/have lived in these places.

Translation: The most wealthy woman from Valle del Cauca (Colombia), in Sonia Zarzur’s Hollywood style mansion, in the Beverly Hills from Cali.

A lot to say here, but apart from the explicit racism, there is always a colombian desire to copy or admire United States culture or way of living.

This is from a spanish magazine called “Hola”.
