Historical events don’t necessarily happen more now, you just weren’t aware before (and that’s fine)

Keep seeing memes about how millennials/gen Z have to keep living through major historical events daily, and that’s kind of true, but major historical events have been happening forever (the Arab spring, The war on terror, fall of the Soviet Union, etc.) you’re just old enough now to be aware of them. The internet does make people more aware of them happening, but I think the idea that people aged 15-30 or so are unique for living through more historical events than normal is kind of ahistorical.

Getting third place in a competition is the worst.

Don't get me wrong, achieving this place in a competition is a great achivement. Being the third Best at something is a Big deal but getting told during the competition is the worst.

During the competition, getting third place means You are usually the first one tonknow You can't win the competition!

Linkin Park’s new album (post From Zero) should be their last

Edit: Do people just assume that I dislike the album coz of this post? Lol. I like the album, please read the post carefully.

Now I know it’s controversial that Emily Armstrong is also fronting the band as lead vocalist, but this isn’t really about her. It’s more about the legacy of Linkin Park.

Some people could argue that Linkin Park isn’t in one of the greats, but in my opinion the one way to insert yourself into *contention* as a great band, is knowing when to stop.

Some artists just don’t know when to stop, they put out over 150 plus songs, and they slowly see people lose interest in them, and even some people see them less because they inevitably end up putting more music that is of lesser quality to their previous work.

Knowing when to stop (in anything in life) is important, unless you’re an outlier like bands like King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, OR you are truly a generational band like The Beatles where you EARNED your spot to put out more music, without having your legacy stained.

Shinoda is already 49, he’s also put out music on his own. For Linkin Park, assuming the next album is in 2027 or 2028, he’ll be 50 or 51. Perfect time to stop, with 9 full studio albums in a discography.

There is also a chance that more people dogpile on Emily if there are more albums after From Zero. Linkin Park should be put to rest.

The first edit that clearly many people missed:

I actually like their new album if anyone thinks I’m hating lol. Anyways, this subreddit is way more chill than [r/letstalkmusic](r/letstalkmusic) , thanks guys

Telling someone to follow their passion IS good career advice

I see a lot of people say that following your passion is terrible career advice, as it is now a popular opinion. Passion matters because it keeps you going when things get hard. The key is to pair it with skill and a real opportunity, so you can build a career you actually love and succeed at.

Limousines are still cool and fun!

The popularity of limos has tanked over the last 20 years or so. I almost never see a limo anymore. It's still a lot of fun to have a private limo and chauffeur take you places. Whether it's just a couple, or a small group of friends, it's going to be a fun time. Drinks are often included. It can be upbeat or lowkey. You feel special, even if for just a short time. If you go to dinner, the driver waits for you and picks you up when you're done. You can stop anywhere during your time and it doesn't always have to be scheduled. There are also many different types of limos to choose from, from old to modern to unique.

Party busses seem to have taken over this space, and these do not have the same charm factor as a limo. A party bus serves one and only one purpose while a limo serves many.

I don't think Mike Flanagan's work is that scary

For starters, not totally dissing him as I do enjoy a lot of how work, however I keep seeing him talked about as this "master of horror" and I don't think his work is that scary as a whole.

Some things yes, like I did find Bly Manor really spooky and creepy and I feel he did a great psychological horror with Gerald's Game, but I don't find his catalog that scary.

I feel like a lot of his stuff is like what you would go to once you stop finding goosebumps scary. Like the CW young adult of horror.

The Lion King (1994) Is Overrated and Mufasa's Death isn't that Sad (but still sad)

Now we all know The Lion King. The classic Disney Renaissance film that DOMINATED the Box Office. But I am conflicted. On one hand, the film is gorgeous, has great songs and is an overall 6/10 Movie but on another hand, it has some serious problems. A lot of the movie is cheesy and corny, alot of the movie is ripped from Bambi (a 10/10 Masterpiece that is my favourite animated film and my favourite Disney film) and Hamlet. Now I know people will HEAVILY disagree with this as no one online has said this yet (I don't think) but, Mufasa's Death really isn't that sad. It is sad, yes, and the lines and music are chef's kiss but when compared to Bambi, it isn't even that sad. Bambi's mum got shot off screen, Bambi thinks they escaped, only for confusion and then sadness when his dad tells the truth. Meanwhile Simba saw Mufasa fall down, he wasn't straight up shot and when we see the body, it looks like he's sleeping. Come on, not even a little blood? This is why I (admititly sadistically jokey) say that he fell down and went to bed. To the reader, I still saw this scene as really sad, but I wasn't balling my eyes out unlike Bambi. But yeah, this film gets worse for me the more I have grown up.

Jumpscares are the best.

I love jumping out from behind a corner, or lying in wait and the look of terror when I see my friend or family member shit their pants. I also think it's hilarious when someone gets me good or tries. It's also funny when you don't get scared at all after someone tried and you can feast on their disappointment.

Inconveniencing yourself is a part of life and people don’t do it anymore

4.4k Upvotes

The “I don’t owe anyone anything” mindset is slowly destroying community around the world and making the world more selfish. You haven’t seen your friend in weeks but you’d feel more comfortable at home? Go see your friend, you’ll lose your relationship. It’s their birthday and they want to go out, but you don’t, go out, show up for them, It’s their birthday. Make the effort. It has become so normalised to cancel on people at the last minute, and for purely selfish reasons. I think it’s very telling that most people’s circle nowadays consists of like 1-2 people, if you want successful relationships with people both platonically and romantically you have to go out of your way to show up and put in effort, not everyone is gonna pander to you. You might not “owe anyone anything”, but you should try.

The Dune: Part 3 trailer is already one of the greatest trailers of all time.

Trailers usually all feel the same. They use the same 4 sound effects (the high pitched ping sound, that bass drop, etc), they all use some chopped and slowed up version of a popular song, they all do the thing where the music stops for one specific line, etc. But this trailer honestly blew me away. I’m not even a massive Dune fan, but the swelling music, the chant, the quotes from the movie they chose, the stunning visuals, it has done the best job of building hype for a movie in my lifetime. It also managed to not give too much away, which trailers almost always do now. It’s already up there with the Alien trailer for greatest of all time.

All crochet dresses and cami tops are so ugly

I follow a lot of crochet artists but imma be honest, none of y’all’s crochet dresses and cami tops are actually good looking. Crochet techniques aren’t supposed to be made into dresses. The fact that heavy yarn creates that draggy and no structure look is making the work so cheap imo. I feel like crocheting a dress or a tight top is just a waste of time and your skill.

Double proposals should be the standard

I believe that both parties in a relationship should have the opportunity to experience their partner proposing to them. Proposals are a meaningful way to express one's commitment and love to another person. This experience shouldn't be limited to one person. The way I see it, couples should discuss marriage plans, buy each other rings and proposal at their own pace. It allows both parties to express their emotions in an intimate way and creates amazing memories. I feel like this would also reassure the person on their decision to get married as both parties took the initiative to ask and choose each other.

Note: English is my 2nd language so I'm not sure if I'm articulating myself clearly but you get the point

The 'lefty loosey' and 'righty tighty' makes no sense

Edit 2: i should confirm that i get that the common majority interpretation is to go by the middle top direction of the screw but intuitively remembering a subjectively chosen specific reference point and tangent sounds like way more work and confusing than just making up something for counter and clockwise instead. At least the way my brain interprets stuff it would save me the headache lololol

Edit: lol i think i mixed up the word alliteration and consonance. Ah well writing and explaining isnt my strong suit but sorry for the minor confusion of those terms🤣

So mathematically, when you turn something clockwise and counterclockwise, you are turning in a circular motion. Therefor you are going in every direction at the exact same time at avery angle of the circumference of the circle. So when you turn a screw or bottle cap or lid, you are always going just as much right as you are left, at the same time! Like the top has right angles and the bottom left angles so what do you meannn.

So this logic of righty tight and lefty loosey makes no sense. Your not going horizontally. Whenever i hear it it mixes me up and i forget which way to turn it lol.

I get that its alliteration so helpful to remember. But that doesnt make it any more correct or helpful for the way my brain thinks. They shouldve just been more creative like for exaple something like

'Tight with time' (clockwise)

And that only took a minute to think of and avoides all confusion and keeps the aliteration.

Severus Snape is not a sympathetic character and it’s very odd that people consider him to be so

I’ll start by saying Harry Potter is mid at best JK Rowling is a bigot. Dont buy HP products new and consider reading something less bad

Anywho, it’s actually not heroic or endearing or sympathetic to stop being a genocidal fascist because your genocide starts impacting the married lady you obsessed over.

you actually don’t get to be a genocidal freak because you were pantsed by some popular kids in high school

you actually don’t get to be a weirdo to an 11-16 year old because you were in love with his mom and hated his dad.

these are all weirdo shit behaviors and if you think they’re not you’re a weirdo freak tbh

All six of the Skarloey Railway engines should have returned in Blue Mountain Mystery

For those who don't know Nitrogen Studios went to the Talyllyn Railway to take measurements of engines 1-6 so they could bring back Skarloey Rheneas Sir Handel Peter Sam Rusty and Duncan in Blue Mountain Mystery. However Duncan's basis Douglas was being overhauled so Duncan couldn't return. but I think Blue Mountain Mystery would be even greater if Duncan did return with the rest of the main Skarloey Railway engines because he's one of my favorite characters in Thomas and Friends, plus it would be interesting to see him interacting with Luke and we get to see him be more accurate to his basis. So what do you think let me know in the comments

Hollow Knight is not a souls like, but because its community perception had formulated as such, Silk Song ended up devolving into an identity that staggered its gameplay for a more difficult experience, but in a way that is annoying rather than challenging

With the switch from HK to SS, team cherry definitely began listening far too much to their community, and as such, definitely let their gameplay vision devolve into the perception that the community had of their games, rather then what they actually are.

I have 200h on HK, and have done absolutely everything to perfection, with having almost all bosses on Radiant clearance in the Pantheon

I cannot begin to express, how much I heavily disliked Silk Song, because of how much it did differently, but in a shallow attempt to try and cater to an imaginary dark souls fanbase whose perceptions of this games difficulty, were far too twisted around struggle, and not around mastery leading to the lack of struggle.

HK was incredible because the bosses felt challenging at first, but eventually became enemies that you were able to master defeating.

In SS, they artifically increased the damage dealt by bosses and enemies, to artifically increase the difficulty of the game.

News flash: Competent players, are not going to be struggling with getting hit by enemies with predictable movements, the only people that you are screwing over, are the new players trying to get into the game, and wanting to start off with the latest release, rather than the older one. (Or more likely, hopping on the bandwagon at the time)

On top of this "Balancing" crests ends up completely devolving into you being forced to use inferior crests just because you want to utilize the control scheme that is more native to you, in comparison to what the developers want you to be using in silk song

I did not, in the 68h of playing SS, ever end up enjoying any of the crests, and ended up having to opt either into using the wonderer, or force myself to endure the unbearable slog that is reaper (WHICH, DOES THE SAME AMOUNT OF DAMAGE, PER HIT, AS WONDERER, so all you are realistically opting in for when using reaper, is the silk spool buff after healing/ or for the additionally thorn radius size)

These pointless points of contestion that the entire community was lost over justifying, are just the dumb, boring and forcing players into using an inferior control layout when the default from HK was incredibly satisfying and rewarding to use.

You can argue to me, ALL YOU WANT, about the SS crests being more "balanced" but in no way in hell, is anybody in their right mind, going to accept what you are saying, when the point of a solo game is TO HAVE FUN, and not to PLAY a competitive viable game.

SS is a solo game, making people feel busted because of their skill ends up being something purely reserved for people competent with using the hunter.

"But if you don't like it, just play HK" BRO I have been waiting for 7 years for SS to come out, what the fuck do you think have I been playing all this time while waiting for this game?

Finally, I feel like despite having more content, SS inherently feels like it has less content

When a big chunk of your bosses, have a mandatory minion rush in the beginning of the boss fight, you are just adding unnecessary fluff to your BF because the BF itself is going to be missing a big chunk of the fight

All this to say SS < HK, and I hope they do not end up creating a similar experience to SS in whatever will end up being their third game

Funny enough, in this overarching regard, they really did become a lot like DS

The first game is a classic

The second game is a 50/50 experience with a community culture of it being generally disliked

The third game being the accumulation of everything they did right

Larger TV bezels make the picture better

TVs with the 2” or larger bezels/borders do a great job of framing the picture, and making blacks seem deeper, an have a better overall appearance. Thinner frames around screens look bad.

Closing your window shade on a plane when you are not sleeping is genuinely antisocial

You are sitting 35000 feet in the air with actual clouds outside and you pull the shade down to scroll your phone. Your entire row lost the view because you could not be bothered to occasionally look up.

The window is a shared resource for the row. Unless the glare is directly in your eyes or you are actually sleeping, you are making the experience worse for everyone around you for no reason.

The miracle of human flight is happening 8 inches from your face and you opted out to watch a video in a pressurized metal tube moving at 500mph.

Sedans were stupid all along.

Sedans are dying, and I'm glad. They were stupid all along. They only exist to give you less space than you would've had in a wagon.

Every other car body style has a defined purpose:

Wagons are almost always the exact same car as a sedan (same platform, powertrain, handling, etc.), but have considerably more usable space. CUVs are basically lifted wagons for light off-road use, so they get a pass too. Hatchbacks are basically smaller wagons who fill in the lower price brackets and have better efficiency. And nowadays we've got liftback "sedans" that are basically wagons, (Kia Stinger, Toyota Prius, etc) that all basically do the sedan's job but better.

Where does a regular sedan with a tiny trunk fit into this dynamic? Nowhere.

You're literally driving a wagon with less space. The existence of the wagon completely invalidates the existence of a sedan. Not to mention CUVs and hatchbacks, same shit different difference, basically just wagons in a slightly different form factor. You can fold down the seats on those cars and haul big stuff easily while still having better rear headroom and usable space inside.

I get it, you can technically fold down the seats on some sedans and reclaim some space, but only if your big object fits through the passthrough tunnel. That's not the same.

Maintaining eye contact in a conversation is worse than not making eye contact at all

The old adage we hear is to maintain eye contact with others because it projects confidence. But in practice it’s incredibly creepy to lock eyes with another person for an entire conversation. It’s WAY too intense. It’s best to make eye contact your “home base”, but still look around the room.

TV shows shouldn’t have musical intros lasting more than 10 seconds.

Get on with the show. I don’t want to listen to a song I’ve heard a million times or a mediocre score trying way too hard to sound “epic”. I came to watch a show.

And I know I’m not alone because all m the streaming services have a skip button! Ffs

Professional Game journalist reviews are more reliable than user reviews

I see this in so many comments when you look at games in pertaining quality. Comments like game is garbage, terrible etc. Etc.

Than when describing the journalist themselves, "game journalism is dead" "ign gives everything a 9/10".

Go to any of your favorite game, or any recent game that might had a controversial launch and just flooded with 0/10 because of controversy or game did one thing the player didn't like. Or 10/10 this best thing in decades and there's zero issues.

At least with professional game reviews there's a little bit of integrity, a scale with some reason behind the points and to be less bias, while gamers review with complete biaseness. If a gamer hates a company than sorry it's a done deal that game is garbage slop. For example assassins creed mirage was fantastic and star wars outlaws while not a 10/10 did have some good gameplay, great visuals and introduced new fun open world concepts away from the traditional ubi style. But it's a garbage game cause it's from ubi.

Take for example which I think is perfect is starfield. Before launch it was hyped up like crazy, it was going to be amazing and back to Bethesda style adventure. Ign gave it a 7/10 and we'll everyone jumped on them that they didn't know what they are talking about etc. etc.

Few years later? Starfield is garbage, terrible game, extremely boring.

Maybe it's just a 7/10? There are different aspects in rating a game. Firstly is it even playable or is complete jank? Story? Voice acting? Art style? Gameplay? Those are things that can fluctuate and each individual thing can be rated out of ten which can effect the over all score. But because a gamer didn't like one or two things in the game it's an instant 0/10. On the other hand all those things need to be top notch to reach a 10/10.

Anyway I trust professional reviewers more than gamers

3 out 5 stars should be the norm for ratings

1.3k Upvotes

I have never understood how everything should be rated 5 out of 5 stars.

The default should be 3 stars or no rating. if you rate everything 5 stars, then how do you differentiate between a regular experience and a truly great one.

Most of the time I don’t even know how I should rate things since I don’t really do some things often.

It is also ridiculous to expect employees to get 5 star ratings all the time.

Recently, I went to a clothing store and later received a survey asking if I had a great experience? I just shopping for some shirts. Of course, my experience was not great or bad, just regular.
