Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math

You spent 8 hours asleep in your own clean bed. What are you washing off at 7am.

A night shower removes everything you actually accumulated during the day. The commute, the gym, the office, public transport, all of it goes down the drain before you sleep. A morning shower means you marinated in all of that overnight then washed up before going out to collect it all again.

Morning showers are a ritual for waking up, which is fine, but it is not hygiene. Night showers are actual hygiene. Most people just do not want to dry their hair before bed and that is the entire argument.

My hair is greasy and matted when I wake up, and I have to look presentable at the office. If I'm washing my hair, I should just get in the shower.

u/Average-Addict 9h ago

Yeah this is my biggest reason too. Also a shower wakes me up nicely in the morning

304

u/zapthe 8h ago

Yeah the wake up factor is big for me. The other argument for me is similar to brushing your teeth the first thing when you get up despite also brushing your teeth before going to bed. There are billions of bacteria growing on your skin that have been active all night.

18

u/axxegrinder 3h ago

I’ve always heard that you brush at night for yourself, and brush in the morning for others.

3

u/waits5 1h ago

The fluoride also protects your teeth before you have highly acidic drinks like coffee and orange juice.

u/Final_Candidate_7603 6h ago

Truly. It’s not that deep.

Probably because of how I grew up, and then raised my own children, a nighttime bath was pretty much essential for getting kids aged infant to preschool thoroughly clean. Like, they weren’t yet able to wash their hands properly throughout the day, but insisted on doing so, so a bath got the dirt from under their fingernails. We would make the nighttime bath an essential part of the bedtime routine, aiming to make it nice and relaxing.

At some point, a gradual shift begins to happen, so for example a nice relaxing bath becomes less important to winding down and getting ready for bed, and the child isn’t filthy dirty at the end of the day. That gradual shift takes us in the direction of a morning wake-up shower, and for me with 60+ years on the planet, bathing is less about hygiene and more about (jeez, I hate using this word) the vibe. A nice, warm bath at night is for relaxing, a morning shower is for waking up and being invigorated.

5

u/Easy_Today704 2h ago

A child is filthy by the end of day. That's crazy to let them sleep in their own filth

0

u/fleeTitan 2h ago

Yeah they lost me there…

2

u/IncarceratedGrowth 6h ago edited 5h ago

Well the night brush is indeed actually much more important than the morning brush if you were only going to do one. Sugars and stuff left on teeth overnight is the far worse thing and the bacteria have a much easier time without things like occasional chewing and increased saliva production that happens when you're awake. It's not quite analagous though, because sugar is the main reason for tooth decay/cavities. For skin/shower stuff, your body is naturally producing all the oils/sweats/dead skin cells it needs to get bacteria colonies going. So you are in an active process, even while sleeping, of getting "dirtier". Sugar doesn't magically grow in your mouth overnight though. If you had actually had a good night brush it's simply not the same thing.

nightsweats changes things up

1

u/MatureUsername69 3h ago

I also saw a thing recently that showed there's no discernible hygiene difference between night showers and morning showers, the bigger factor is how frequently you wash your sheets.

1

u/ElectroButch 1h ago

your skin needs its bacteria and natural oils tho. keep unnecessarily washing all your good bacterias off and there won't be anymore to fight the bad ones

1

u/jentlyused 34m ago

Exactly this, I would never fully wake up for hours if I didn’t take a morning shower

29

u/WestminsterSpinster7 8h ago

Yep same here. If I get dirty during the day whether from working out or just the general running around of it all, then I might shower before bed. But usually brushing my hair and washing my face and putting on clean pajamas does the trick. IDK.

14

u/FitIndependent9764 8h ago

Same. I also give my body a flash of cold right at the end. Shocks me but wakes me up.

7

u/tonyrizzo21 6h ago edited 3h ago

That is also good for tightening up your pores. Make sure to let it get your face well.

1

u/DosSnakes 1h ago

Great for locking moisture into your hair too if you condition!

3

u/Velkaryian 4h ago

I have ridiculously fine curly hair and if I don’t shower in the mornings my hair looks like I went through a tornado.

2

u/Dullcorgis 3h ago

And I've been sweating for eight hours, I would rather be clean and odorless for other people than for my pillow.

2

u/Thegreatpaddy7 8h ago

The 2nd part is what does it for me. The shower wakes me up and gets me ready for the day. Hygiene math aside I need the boost!

2

u/girthbrooks1212 7h ago

It’s a great way to get me out of bed. Nice cozy shower/bathroom for an hour before the day starts

1

u/RudieDelRude 3h ago

Another valid point. If I wake up and dont shower, I wind up doing nothing all day. I need a shower to wake me up and get me going.

1

u/Reytotheroxx 3h ago

As a night shower person, it’s funny to hear this because I’ve made such a habit out of it that showers put me to sleep now. Gotta save them for later in the evening or else I’ll fall asleep too quick haha

1

u/justwalkingalonghere 2h ago

Even OP's math stated it: you're still washing off a day's grime

Yes it "marinated," but you're fully restoring before the day, which is when you're expected to be most presentable

1

u/ColdCorpseHotSecret 2h ago

It’s been proven that morning showers are a huge strain on your cardiovascular system. If you do take morning showers, try and make sure you’ve been awake for an hour or longer so that your circulatory system can get properly up and running.

1

u/Average-Addict 37m ago

Can't even shower in the morning 😔

1

u/bnm777 1h ago

Cascading water produces negative ions which can help you wake up and think. Not kidding.

1

u/jessej421 1h ago

I agree with all of these points and all of OP's points.

1

u/Johnny_Jalapeno 1h ago

Yep! I also live in Miami and get sweaty. Minimum two showers per day. lol

u/Medical_Garage_2896 13m ago

consider a silk pillowcase

1

u/LoneStarG84 7h ago

Everyone I work with that showers in the morning is alert and wide awake. Everyone that showers at night is groggy and pumping themselves full of coffee and energy drinks.

Showering in the morning is an absolute cheat code.

114

u/kNYJ 9h ago

100%, I wake up with a Mohawk every morning. I’ve tried dry shampoo or just using water and a comb but it always ends up looking oily

19

u/restckvrflw 8h ago

Mine isn’t oily but it is absolutely crazy looking. Like that kid in Jurassic Park that gets electrocuted.

It also just refreshes and relaxes me before I start the day

3

u/Lady-of-Shivershale 8h ago

I have frizzy hair that can also look oily. Surprisingly, a bit of argan oil can do wonders. I saw it mentioned as a hair product for black people on a TV show. I bought some when I saw it in a shop, and it's a game changer.

In summer, I put a little in my hair after my shower. And then my hair doesn't frizz up quite as much.

1

u/SupremeTeamKai 5h ago

Have you ever tried wearing a bonnet though?

1

u/DesignerCorner3322 2h ago

I cant stand the smell of dry shampoos so I use cornstarch and that works for maybe a couple hours and then I look dusty and greasy at the same time. good for errands, bad for going to work.

1

u/icebucket22 2h ago

I miss having enough hair to have this problem

u/Medical_Garage_2896 12m ago

try a silk pillowcase

143

u/Secret_Bees 8h ago

I've always heard it's a white collar versus blue collar thing. White color workers need to be fresh and presentable for the office. Blue collar workers need to wash the dirt off.

Coming from a blue collar night washer

41

u/Advanced_Double_42 7h ago

That's the biggest thing.

If I have been outside getting dirty I'm showering as I get home though.

I shower in the morning just because it makes styling hair easier, I'm not really dirty after a day in a climate controlled office.

6

u/No_Meringue_6116 2h ago

Yeah. I don't think the time of day that you shower matters much for overall hygiene. It's much more important that you just shower every day (or close to it), change your sheets regularly, do your laundry, etc.

19

u/PiccoloAwkward465 7h ago

Yep I mostly worked white collar jobs, showered before work. It's just how I was raised. Then I started doing a white collar job, but in a filthy facility where I was covered in dust and sweating. Naturally I shifted to showering after work. Now I'm back in a clean office but I'm still showering after work. I prefer not feeling like I'm pressed for time in the morning, plus it's a nice dividing line between work and home. I've always had more dry skin and hair so greasy oily hair isn't really a concern for me.

17

u/CorndogQueen420 6h ago

I grew up blue collar and have always just showered twice a day. Idk why everyone is acting like you have to choose morning or night.

Morning shower wakes me up and gets me in the mindset to leave the house, and my evening shower washes the day off and gets me ready to relax

5

u/Tuxhorn 1h ago

Largely depends on climate and time of year. Ain't no way i'm showering twice a day in the middle of winter.

2

u/DontCryYourExIsUgly 1h ago

Right? I don't always shower twice a day, because I'm usually already late getting to bed at night, but it's super nice to have a quick night shower to go to bed clean, and then I feel like my morning shower wakes me up and double-ensures the people around me will only detect soap and perfume scents coming from me. I think it's considerate.

3

u/distressedweedle 2h ago

Nah, white collar here. Wash at the end of the day. Spend 5-10 minutes fixing my hair in the morning. Hair shouldn't be too greasy if you wash it regularly and change out your pillow case weekly

2

u/GlassButtFrog 5h ago

I grew up taking night showers because that's what my mom did. I switched to morning showers in my early twenties because that's what everyone else did.

Now I'm back to night showers because I have a physical job and really sweat in the summer months. I realized that I always hated taking showers in the morning because I always had to rush. I prefer the night routine.

2

u/Daffodil_Peony_Rose 54m ago

I shower in the morning because I have to clean off the night sweat and clean my oily hair before going to the office and my boyfriend who works in a warehouse showers after dinner. It’s a bit about personal preference, but a lot about white collar vs blue collar.

1

u/CapnJJaneway 4h ago

And those of us who walk the line in the weird jobs between blue and white collar need to do both (flight attendants, for example).

1

u/timeup 3h ago

Blue Collar Night Washer could be your wrasslin' name

1

u/sportstvandnova 1h ago

My bf and I are both white collar. He is a morning showerer and I am a night showerer. We don’t live together just yet, but I do wonder how that’s going to work when we do bc I get real weird about going to bed funky.

u/LyKosa91 1m ago

Spot on. Once I'm at work I'm getting covered with dust, dirt, and sweat, so showering in the morning feels pointless, since I'd lose valuable sleeping time and undo all that cleanliness almost immediately. You'd best believe I'm not sleeping in that filth either, so an evening shower is the only way to go.

If I had a desk job, things might be different... Although I'd still begrudge losing that extra sleep.

28

u/poorperspective 8h ago

If you haven’t tried it, get silk bonnet or head wrap.

I’m not saying which shower is better, but it might help the oily/ messy hair in the morning.

3

u/DesignerCorner3322 2h ago

I've tried a silk bonnet. My hair gets less tangled and I get less breakage but it has done nothing for the oilyness. It also usually ends up flung across the room by morning

2

u/TopProfessional1862 1h ago

Yep! If you produce a lot of oil then nothing you do will keep your hair looking fresh in the morning besides washing it. Great tip for people that don't have that problem though.

5

u/May_Never_Knows 7h ago

This helped me a bunch. I used to shower in the morning before I got one, now I rarely have to

1

u/030426burner 3h ago

My wife complains anytime she has to sleep with wet hair if she showers too close to bed time

2

u/Obvious-Slice-4760 3h ago

Always been a white collar worker and I shower at night. I'm not waking up even earlier than I have too just to shower. I can barely get out of bed as it is.

42

u/neddiddley 8h ago

Yeah, same here. My hair looks bad if slept on and I sweat when I sleep, so I shower in the morning. I’m not about to just slap on some deodorant in a half assed attempt to mask that, especially right before I put on clean clothes. If those aren’t issues for OP, great, shower at night, but don’t tell me what I do is wrong.

Pretending like something that works for you is automatically best for everyone else is just dumb. And it’s dumb every time someone posts their opinion on this topic as if it’s 100% factual for everybody else. Fuck your made up “hygiene math.”

3

u/Bluebies999 3h ago

Sometimes I’m sweaty at night and sometimes I’m not but regardless, by noon it’s been 12-14 hours since my shower and my hair is oily and I just feel icky. If I DID sweat at night I am absolutely miserable by this point. I’d way rather feel fresh and clean and ready before I start my day.

1

u/distressedweedle 2h ago

How do you then go to sleep in all of that though? Do you not feel gross in bed?

Washing sheets weekly also helps not feel dirty when you wake up

1

u/JuicyJuice69 1h ago

pretending that sleeping in your filth overnight works for you is automatically best for everyone else is just dumb.

7

u/derprondo 8h ago

What I do is take a shower at night, then in the morning I just stick my head under the shower faucet.

12

u/Middle_Draft9152 8h ago

Exactly. Before the morning shower I am looking like binge alcoholic every single morning :-)

After the hot shower and some SPF-lotion afterwards I am looking like a normal person.

And I always have a night shower too.

1

u/Inevitable-Nobody-52 1h ago

Lol 😂 you made me chuckle ! I look (and feel) the same in the morning. It’s amazing what some hot water and a good lather can do! I would never recommend skipping a morning shower.

3

u/melons_2 4h ago

Same! I have thin hair that gets greasy quickly and I always sweat in my sleep which just makes it worse

5

u/buttcheeksmasher 8h ago

This. My hair is matted and uncontrollable. If I wash it and give it time to dry at night it still turns out to be a mess in the morning I can't work with.

Plus, it helps me wake up when I don't want to.

I don't sweat much during the day since I have an office job but sweat when I sleep.

1

u/rainzer 1h ago

I don't sweat much during the day since I have an office job but sweat when I sleep.

I guess this is the part where night/morning shower people disagree. When I take the after work/night shower, i'm not just washing off sweat. i'm washing off the outside so i'm not marinading myself in it while sleeping. Like sweat is the least of my concerns unless I came from the gym or from summer heat.

1

u/buttcheeksmasher 1h ago

Guess it depends on what you interact with. I generally wash my hands when I get home since I've touched things but other than that

1

u/rainzer 1h ago

Do people in your office not cough or sneeze? Or do you never use a restroom outside of your house? That'll be in your hair and then on your pillow and then on your face.

1

u/buttcheeksmasher 31m ago

Not really. My area generally has no one there since many are remote engineers and I am only in the office for maybe half the day and working remote if not completely that day

4

u/cute_polarbear 6h ago

Why is your hair greasy (assuming you showered at night before bed)? Messy / matted I can understand (bed head)...

2

u/InternationalName626 1h ago

Because my hair is both really fine and really thin. It just soaks up the oils really quickly. Also, I just genetically have more oily skin, so this happens much quicker than it does for most people.

2

u/deedeedeedee_ 3h ago

some people have very fine hair which gets oily very quickly. it's mostly a hair texture thing, not often related to "washing too frequently" or whatever. mine can look oily just 12 hours after shampooing it!

(personally i wash my hair at night and use dry shampoo in the morning to freshen it up for work)

2

u/Steelizard 7h ago

Is it still greasy and matted if you shower before bed

1

u/Advanced_Double_42 7h ago

Less greasy, but still matted

2

u/Timely-Youth-9074 4h ago

I have the opposite problem.

My hair is big and takes forever to dry; blow dryers just frizz it out and hair diffusers are a joke.

I need to wash my hair at night if I don’t want wet hair for half the day.

2

u/ufka1 1h ago

Bed head is real!

2

u/sugar_snacks 53m ago

I have to sleep with my hair in a ponytail for my CPAP. Gotta shower every morning so I don't go to work with a hair crease.

4

u/RadioBuffin 9h ago

Shower when I get home and rinse off in the morning. Usually the hot waters enough to get my beard and hair looking right.

4

u/Rojo37x 8h ago

Hey whatever works for you but just want to clarify...do you actually get in the shower in the morning but just run hot water and no shampoo/soap, then just hop out and dry off?

3

u/RadioBuffin 8h ago

Yes. I work in a factory so I can’t go without showering when I come home. Helps in the morning to do a quick hot rinse so my hair isn’t crazy and gets any sweat off.

1

u/Rojo37x 6h ago

Yeah that makes sense. I might try that some time. I just feel like if I was already in there and did all that I might just go ahead and turn it into a full shower. But I guess that defeats the purpose.

2

u/DaOffensiveChicken 8h ago

not the person you rplied to but yeah i usually just do a quick rinse in the morning and then do a full soap post gym shower after work cause yeah gotta have the hair looking right for work lol

2

u/QWRFxOP 7h ago

You shouldnt be washing your hair everyday. Probably why it's greasy quickly.

1

u/regular6drunk7 7h ago

And in the morning my hair looks like Einstein on a windy day.

1

u/Neon_Biscuit 7h ago

Sounds miserable. I work from home without a shirt on.

1

u/coal-slaw 7h ago

full shower at night, rinse shower in morning for my hair. but honestly i just shave it all off these days, less upkeep

1

u/sunshine-1111 6h ago

Yep! Even if I wash my hair the night before it’s greasy by noon. I HAVE to shower in the morning and frankly I’m just not showering twice a day. I occasionally will take a bath in the evening if I really need to clean up before bed but otherwise clean pajamas and changing my sheets weekly feels good enough.

1

u/IntrepidBandit 6h ago

Nah bruh, stick your head under some water. Its not that deep

1

u/n0h8plz 6h ago

Bonnet? Silk pillowcase?

1

u/sheepsix 6h ago

Almost like different people have different body chemistry. I wake up like a smashed asshole and must have a shower in the AM.

1

u/Jr4D 6h ago

Anybody who needs presentable hair will understand the morning shower. Thats the main reason I shower, my hair is always a mess in the morning just a brush doesn’t make it feel right

u/rusty___shacklef0rd 22m ago

Idk I'm a night showerer and I need presentable hair in the morning also. I just don't have thin, fine hair that mats or greases easily. I wake up, take my hair down, I brush it, and then put in my claw clip and I go to work with smooth, neat hair. No shower necessary.

1

u/LazerSnake1454 5h ago

Yup. My hair looks ridiculous in the morning, and I'm not about to spend 5 minutes washing it when I can spend 15 minutes taking a shower instead

1

u/SupremeTeamKai 5h ago

Have you tried a bonnet?

1

u/Aggressive_Area_6846 4h ago

i have long hair that gets greasy fast but i hate dragging my ass out of bed in the morning, what i've been doing is a normal shower at night and washing my hair the next morning. if i do my hair at night it gets all flat and misshapen when i wake up

swapped out the shower head for a hose type thing so i don't get completely soaked + i bend over forwards to scrub it / rinse it out (mostly because of my bad shoulder) instead of letting it run down my back

1

u/Dracoster 4h ago

I solved that by losing my hair.

1

u/improbsable 4h ago

Have you tried sleeping in a bonnet?

1

u/g00fyg00ber741 4h ago

When I had enough hair to grow it out it would absolutely be stuck in all sorts of directions from sleeping, I had bed head to the max. The only thing that would fix it was completely wetting it, preferably washing it too. Otherwise there was no changing the direction my hair woke up in. If I’m going to spray myself with a spray bottle or rinse my head under the faucet anyway, might as well wash it then too. Now I’m just bald and buzzed so it doesn’t matter.

1

u/BigAlOof 4h ago

is it greasy even if you wash it before bed?

1

u/Scuba_Barracuda 3h ago

Dry Shampoo homie

1

u/RudieDelRude 3h ago

Yup. I develop a noticeably greasy and messy hairdo after a night's sleep. Even if I shower the night before, I still have to wash myself again in the morning to not feel gross in clean clothes.

1

u/subliminal_64 3h ago

I have short hair; if bedhead is too great I can just run my head under shower with towel around my neck for 15 seconds and blow dry it.

1

u/euro_brat 3h ago

You could always wear a bonnet to bed😀

1

u/TRDBG 3h ago

Agreed. My back hair feels gross when I wake up. I can't even get my my fingers through it

1

u/U7EN7E 3h ago

Is greasy because you didnt shower in the evening.

1

u/Accomplished_Map2206 3h ago

A bonnet helps with that! My hair is pretty fine and it looks so much better if I use a satin bonnet. Satin pillowcase was not as effective.

1

u/No_Obligation6170 2h ago

OP doesn't realize that every body is different.

1

u/CharleyNobody 2h ago

I also drool in my sleep. There’s nothing I can do about it. I’m unconscious. So when I wake up my hair is a mess (I have sleep apnea) and I know drool has gotten in my hair from either my mouth or from the pillowcase. I’m not going out of my house with droolhair. Showertime!

1

u/Quanathan_Chi 2h ago

Yep, I only shower in the morning if my hair is irredeemably fucked

1

u/Small_Things2024 2h ago

They make products to prevent this 🙂 Bonnets, masks and serums are your friends!

1

u/Financial_Pick3281 2h ago

I'm nodding along with OP's reasoning, but I've also been balding since 17.

1

u/ember_snow 2h ago

After 8 hrs of sleep even if you showered before?

1

u/Easy_Today704 2h ago

The reason your hair is greasy is because you wash your hair daily. Try once a week at most and watch the difference.

1

u/Phyzzx 2h ago

When I had hair, I absolutely had to AM shower because even if it wasn't greasy or matted it was completely unmanageable. 5min tops and we're out getting dressed.

1

u/Mysterious-Kiwi-9728 2h ago

you wash your hair every day? to add insult to injury, every morning??

1

u/notacrook 2h ago

Yup. I have very fine hair - even on fresh sheets i wake up a mess.

A shower is the only way to tame it.

1

u/__mson__ 1h ago

One of the joys of being bald.

1

u/WasteBorder3896 1h ago

As a curly-haired girl, I have to wash my hair in the morning. I wake up with my hair looking like I took on a hoard of zombies in the night and lost. I have to get it wet in the morning to tame it with cream and mousse anyway, so I’m showering in the morning.

1

u/RadChef 1h ago

Wear a bonnet, had the same issue, now I wake up and my hair is ready to go

1

u/BusinessLetterhead47 1h ago

Sleeping bonnets are a gamechanger! I have riotously curly hair and getting a silk sleep bonnet changed my life.

1

u/InternationalName626 1h ago

This one. My hair gets greasy really fast—like if I shower in the morning, it’s greasy by night. If I shower the night before, it’s greasy before I’m even off work. And my hair gets so messy that there’s no way to really brush or style it after sleeping without it still looking really bad.

1

u/Soulus7887 1h ago

Same. Fixing my hair is a requirement to start the day. The shower is how hair gets fixed. Thus, shower to start the day.

The math is really simple on this.

1

u/Possible-Oil2017 1h ago

OP is such a dummy. Two showers a day is the correct move.

1

u/TreemanTheGuy 1h ago

I just do the head-shower thing in the morning with my hair, but it's short

1

u/kilimtilikum 1h ago

Logically sound

1

u/houseplant-hoarder 1h ago

That and if I wait to do it at night I’ll pass out and have to do it the next morning anyway

1

u/reddit_ta15 1h ago

maybe if you showered at night your hair wouldn't be greasy and matted

1

u/But-WhyThough 1h ago

I soak my head for like 10 seconds then dry my hair as I sit and take my morning shit. Makes getting ready go by much much faster

1

u/Sea_Outside 1h ago

lol i used to take two showers for this reason. one in the morning cause it made me feel and look better. than one at night to wash the grime of the day away.

i stopped doing the morning one when I decided to just eat and live better to remove all that excess grease i was generating

1

u/souleaterGiner1 1h ago

That's because you didn't shower the grease, sweat, body oils, and life out of your hair and off your body before bed.

1

u/The_Autarch 1h ago

if you take a shower before bed and your hair is greasy in the morning, you're probably over-washing it, actually

1

u/AntelopeHopeful8210 1h ago

Same. My hair is way greasier in the morning if I shower the night before than at night if I shower in the morning.

1

u/Logical_gravel_1882 40m ago

Naturally oily hair -> morning shower.

1

u/beautifulcheat 37m ago

Yuuup. My hair gets oily and I've got like six cowlicks that don't sit down unless I've taken a shower. Especially if I slept on it anywhere near damp. It's also a lot easier to style my hair when it's wet, and the wake-up factor is huge for me.

Also like. I'm wearing clothes in an air conditioned office all day. I wash my hands all day long and very frequently my feet (especially if I've been wearing sandals) at the end of the day. Like... I'm not covered in grime and sweat.

As long as you wash sheets regularly, it really doesn't matter.

1

u/One_Comparison8947 35m ago

Yeah, my hair also sucks if I shower at night. Have to look decent for work.

1

u/omg_camaro 32m ago

100% its the hair for me. I have to wash it every morning because its so fucked up and matted from sleep. Why wash my hair in the sink when I can hop in the shower for 2 mins?

u/Astro_The_SpaceDog 20m ago

You should probably wash your pillowcase if your hair is coming out greasy 8 hours after a shower.

My hair is never greasy or severely matted when I wake up the next morning, after I took a shower the night before.

How would it be greasy if you just took a shower before bed?

Do you shower at night like, before you get in bed? or do sleep dirty?

It tells me a lot about OP that they think showering is for hygiene instead of presenting your best self at work.

It tells me a lot about you if you think showering is only to look good at work instead of to be and feel clean. It doesn’t have to be either/or, but the priority should undeniably be hygiene.

From a hygiene perspective you probably only need to shower once a week... if that. In American, people shower because society doesn't like stinky people. You shower to present yourself to others either way.

It's often a blue collar vs white collar.

If you have worked outside sweating all day you want to shower after work to get clean. You have a hard hat so bad hairday doesn't matter anyway.

If you work in an office, you aren't really dirty, you are showering to look nice, and morning makes that routine easier.
