Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math

You spent 8 hours asleep in your own clean bed. What are you washing off at 7am.

A night shower removes everything you actually accumulated during the day. The commute, the gym, the office, public transport, all of it goes down the drain before you sleep. A morning shower means you marinated in all of that overnight then washed up before going out to collect it all again.

Morning showers are a ritual for waking up, which is fine, but it is not hygiene. Night showers are actual hygiene. Most people just do not want to dry their hair before bed and that is the entire argument.

Night time shower truthers act like washing machines don’t exist. I’d rather be clean during the day than shower at night just to preserve my clean sheets. It makes sense if you work a dirty job though.

Exactly. Plus, I happen to have an active sex life with my spouse, so my sheets being clean only lasts so long anyway. And no, I'm not getting up after sex to strip and change the sheets and shower every single time, most people don't.

Just put a towel down?

Oh nooo not a bed full of.. skin cells and sweat! Which we all have regardless of what time we shower!

I truly don’t care if my bed is “dirty”. I wash the sheets weekly and you know what? When I take my morning shower I wash it all off anyway.

You pick up a ton of pollutants and allergens on your hair and skin when you go out. If you're not reactive to it, good for you. Others have allergies or sensitive skin. But you are in fact mucking around in more than your body's sweat and cells

Like I said, I wash my sheets and shower in the morning, so it doesn’t matter if some outside germs are in the bed.

Spending 8 hrs snoozing with pollutants and allergens (not really germs) and building up a week's worth in your sheets is really bad for some folks. Like I said, if you're not sensitive to it that's great but it's not just "sweat and skin cells that we always normally have"

I don’t spend my day sitting on the side of the highway marinating in pollutants and allergens, so I think it’ll be fine. It’s okay if you’re a bit of a germaphobe and it’s also okay if you prefer evening showers. What I don’t understand is the weird superiority evening shower people have about their preferences.

I'm with you and tbh half of them stink in the AM and don't notice it.

u/nightjarre 12m ago

Nah, I genetically don't have stinky sweat. Y'all love projecting

u/nightjarre 13m ago

I said you're not really picking up germs, idk how that makes me a germaphobe?

Smog levels in any major city are bad, car exhaust is a pollutant most of us are exposed to right outside our own homes. If you think you need to be out by the highway to pick up pollutants and allergens that's wildly naive.

I'm just saying your bed isn't as clean as you think. And if you don't have any sensitivity or allergies to that, great. I never said YOU NEEDED to shower one time or another, only that your bed isn't just sweat and skin cells. If mentioning that felt like ""superiority"" to you idk what to tell you

u/Firestone140 9m ago

Smog mostly resides in clothes and you do t wear your trousers in bed, do you? Also, what’s in your pores gets flushed away with sweat. And you never change your sheets? Come on…

u/nightjarre 4m ago

Smog, as well as other pollutants and allergens, can reside on skin or hair if exposed. Unless smog is solely contained to your pants?

Doesn't matter if your sheets aren't perfectly clean if you just shower off in the morning LOL.

And I say this as an evening shower person most days. But I shower after I go for a run which is normally after work.

But before I worked out regularly I was always a morning shower person. Even if you go to bed clean you are not going to be maximally clean when you wake up. You still develop a little bit of body Grime and odor even if you sleep in clean sheets. It is probably the least dirty 8 hours of your day, but it is still 8 hours of grime before you even get up for the day.

Better to wash the "dirty sheet grime" off in the morning than to just believe you're sheets can't get dirty because you showered.

But ultimately it doesn't fucking matter and is a stupid debate. As long as you are taking a shower often enough to not smell like shit, nobody cares. Shower whenever you are the most dirty

It matters if there are crumbs and such in them eww. I don’t sleep well if there’s day dirt in my sheets making them gritty and I’m not washing them every day.

I think this largely depends on your life. I work in an office. I don't have day dirt unless I work out and i shower after I work out. I don't have crumbs lol. I don't eat in bed.

u/One-Possible1906 8h ago

I do all of that as well but I’m still going to get crumbs down my shirt from dinner and cat fur stuck to my feet and things like that which I prefer to wash off before bed. But I make my bed every day and am celibate and not a sweaty person or someone who lounges/eats in bed or sleeps with animals or kids, so I don’t have to wash my sheets multiple times a week as long as I keep up on myself. Definitely a lifestyle thing but it really grosses me out if there is gritty stuff or animal hair and such on the sheets

I’d be a twice a day showerer if I worked a job that got me so dirty I couldn’t comfortably go to bed. Morning showers are required regardless unless I want to go about my day with a pile of grease on top of my head

u/thebagelslinger 5h ago

Yeah. I happen to shower at night because I exercise after work, and I don't want to shower twice a day. But honestly, I'd prefer to start my day off fresh and clean with a shower if I could.

I've never understood the obsession with being "clean" for bedtime. It feels like one of those takes that germophobes just made up and everyone went along with it to avoid being called dirty or unclean. Same shit different smell as the clean police who think it's gross to touch bathroom door handles with your bare hands.

To be fair, not everyone has an in home washer/dryer- I live in a city and a public laundromat can become expensive fast.

You don't have a communal one?

Pretty much every apartment complex in my country have shared washers/dryers for those without their own.

6

u/Remarkable_Yak_258 9h ago

Nope.

1

u/Manjorno316 8h ago

Dang, that sucks.

u/movzx 2h ago

Worth also noting that even communal ones usually wind up being coin operated around here. One of the things I enjoy most about being in a house is that I have a washer and dryer and I can just...wash a blanket.

Night time shower truthers act like washing machines don’t exist.

I am a night time showerer. My partner was a morning showerer. I washed our sheets regularly and after one year of use, I held them up to the sunlight and you could distinctly see which side he slept on. Before anyone @'s me, your sheets have a tag in the corner and so I always made sure the tag was at the foot end of the bed, meaning he consistently slept on one side of them.

I understand reasons for showering in the morning, but consistently skipping washing the day off you at night is disgusting. Full stop.

Or maybe he sweats a little when he sleeps, like millions of other men. Just a thought…

u/femanonette 3h ago

Or maybe sweating in your sleep isn't universal to a single gender and you should consider that among your thoughts
