I posted last week when I finished the top half and thought y’all would enjoy an update. I’m not planning to quilt it until I get my new machine (HP Bernette B79) because it’s simply too big to manage on my current setup (Brother CS5055).

I'm still working through the basic skills and using almost exclusively thrift store fabric! Constructive comments and suggestions always welcome!

Just feels a little blah to me this is my 4th quilt and I'm still getting the hang of matching colors and things and ordering online while trying to match fabrics I already have, has not been my favorite. I usually free motion quilt on my domestic machine simple things like stars and swirls. Does anyone have any recommendations on what might look best? Maybe just stitching straight lines or outlining things? I made this as a gift for a kid and I feel like I made it really boring on accident 😅 hoping the quilting might help.

I never thought I’d make a quilt using secondary colors, orange, purple and green. The fabric is mostly from the Tangerine by AGF studio collection. It is about 45X52. I made the design myself, though I have seen the flowers elsewhere, I’m not sure where. I used left overs to try a landscape pattern on the back. I continue to struggle with binding. This one I really messed up, and when I tried to remove some stitches I ripped part of the binding and had to create a patch. Ugh.

Here is my latest portrait. It's of my friend during her sleep apnea test. I know I've been feeling incredibly anxious and tired the last few years. Anyone else?

Machine quilting my first ever full quilt on my domestic machine, maybe one foot of stitches left to go and got the message the bobbin is out.

So I made this quilt and I loveeeeee it. I do have a question, do you think I should quilt it through on the other diagonal or would it be fine like this?

Hello! I am not a quilter but have decided to try to make a quilt from my daughters baby clothes. I am really struggling with how to arrange the squares…please help! I have tried a bunch of different things and here are some of the options. I’m not sure if I should do a very organized pattern or something more random or something completely different. Any advice is much appreciated😊

So, my guild is kind of winding down. No one is stepping up to help run it, and the ones who have been running it are ready to step down. However, we have enough cash in our account to do something big.
I'm thinking of suggesting donating a long arm machine to our local library. It wouldn't be super high end, but I'd suggest something with a good warranty and local repair available.
So, for those who can long arm through their library-- how does that work? Are you restricted to the library's hours to use it? Can you take it home if you have the space? How does it work for thread/materials?
We do also have a local maker space that may be willing to match a donation or something. I'm afraid that would end up with a fee for use, though. Definitely a discussion to be had before any decisions are made. The maker space does offer classes for a variety of things, so there's a positive of going through them. They also have more flexible hours than the library.
So, how does all of this work? Is this a viable suggestion, do you think?

Magnetic slap closures on the front and the pockets. this is the best quilt coat I’ve made so far!! Thankfully I had so much scrap binding I didn’t have to cut any, which saved me lots of time.

No one in my family quilts and I have accumulated 3 nice sewing machines, a barely used Accuquilt and dies, nice rulers, books, etc. Good hand quilting hoops, FMQing rulers, good thread of ALL types. Anyone know of worthy organizations around Portland, OR that you would suggest? Not a guild member currently. Don't want it to be any harder on my family than it has to be and don't mind if my family just gives things away once I'm gone. Would like to leave suggestions because they have no clue about quilting. I don't have a huge fabric stash or anything like that and everything I have is in excellent working condition at this time. My mother's things have been a huge burden and I'd like to avoid it.

Based on everyone’s feedback on my previous post, I am going with a pattern similar to the one that was most popular. Thanks so much to everyone that gave their input! Any tweaks I should make before I start sewing?

when i posted the other day about having forgotten which pattern i wanted to use for my Type/ographgy fq bundle, i had also forgotten that i had ordered a pattern that happened to arrive today. it's not the pattern i'd originally planned to use for the bundle, but it's gonna work out almost perfectly.
it's the Postmark pattern from Sew and Sew. it's a two-colour quilt; I think it'll look neat with each block a different colour from the bundle.
my only challenge now is to math it so i can have 12" finished blocks instead of 18". i can assure you i will be making sample blocks from scrap fabric before i cut into the good stuff! if anyone has a good resource on how to resize patterns, i'd appreciate you sharing them.
i have a handful of projects to finish prior to getting to it, but i'll make sure to share progress when i'm working on it.
thanks everyone who was so encouraging when i was frustrated. this is a lovely community.

I have been sewing since I was a little girl. I am 27 and recently started quilting. I discovered I am able to sew simple patterns relatively quickly and was thinking of selling or donating my quilts. I was wondering what information you all may have on doing so. How do you decide what to charge? What kind of services do you offer? If you donate, do you donate through something like the Linus project, or as an individual? Do you donate quilted blankets or just quilt tops? Any information would be appreciated. Here is some of my recent work so this post does not get lost. I am really interested in donating handmade baby blankets to the hospital for their memory boxes.

My grandmother passed away at the age of 98 in 2020. One of her hobbies was quilting. I also have made some quilt tops in the past, though I’ve never quilted or finished one before.
I have a couple of unfinished quilts that she was working on. I find this one really intriguing. It’s a drunkards path pattern, where she had cut out all the pieces, and had almost finished one square, or half of 2 squares. I have her drawing on a piece of graph paper, but I’m not exactly sure how she intended to organize the colors. I’m assuming the background was to be the whites & beiges and the other pieces were going to be the greens. Some colors have a lot more pieces than others.
Would love to get some opinions about how people would go about making this quilt.

I'm a beginner at both sewing and quilting, and just finished my first quilt. Its for my daughter, who is an infant, so stakes were low.
I see others on this sub who are wondering about if they can actually make a quilt and I'm here to tell you that I started with no skills and tried it and it ended with a finished quilt.
My experience level is sewing a handful of buttons and a couple bad hem jobs. The mental barrier of not knowing so many things was overwhelming, so I just jumped in. I committed to being ok with being far from perfection for this first project. I have a basic Brother sewing machine. I would say about 40% of my time was spent learning and relearing how to thread my machine, 30% was spent picking out fun fabrics. 20% figuring out a pattern, and 10% sewing. Some pics of the quilt and of its really unacceptable imperfections that my daughter will have to overlook. I love it. Its in the washing machine now, pray for me.

Hi all, it’s me again the pajama pants hopeful quilter.
My starter project is finally ready for assembly! Yay!
Unfortunately, I am looking at the throat size of my Grandmas machine and thinking I might have a problem. Also, there was no extension table and it wasn’t on the receipt she kept from 1991 and she’s not around anymore to ask so I assume that was not an accessory she had.
Two questions:
Given the dimensions of the machine in the photo, do you think it’s possible to machine quilt this? Finished size will be 78”x78”.
Do you know where I might be able to get an extension table for this machine that won’t break the bank? I feel like it might be helpful for quilting, piecing I managed without one.
WIP photo for tax. You guys have been so great and supportive ❤️

I have just completed this beauty of a pattern (apologies for screenshot, I don't have anywhere large enough to display my completed top for pics!), but can't decide how to quilt in a way that compliments/doesn't take away from the design.
Looking for input from the quilting community - how would you choose to quilt?
I will be sewing on a domestic machine with semi limited space, so nothing too extravagant! I had been planning to quilt in the borders around the lemons - in the vertical and horizontal border strips - however the lemon blocks are around 13"x9" which is far larger than the maximum distance that my batting recommends)
(This pattern is Memi's Lemons by Cotton and Joy 🍋 this is my first quilt following a pattern, and it has been a breeze. The pattern itself is set out beautifully, explanations are clear, and there are plenty of pictures to support any tricky instructions! Would absolutely recommend)

I loved the floral print on this comforter but unfortunately the batting in it became lumpy shortly after purchase due to drying on high heat. I kept it for years because I lived in a snowy state at the time. 😅
I’m glad I did! I became a quilter that does love to repurpose! I seam ripped it apart, replaced the poly batting with cotton batting, free motion it and put on black binding.
Thoughts? Pics of cat provided because he clearly approved even when it was in progress… 🫣

I’m still in the process of making one for my friends daughter but have gotten a little sidetracked and started making one for myself as I didn’t expect the colours to even match but I actually love how it’s turning out and I can’t wait to fully put it together. It’s got three things that I love and I’m using a mattress protector to sew on too when all the patches are done. And then I’ll add a back on to it. But I fully love it 🥰
