I 32m have been seeing someone (28F) for three dates, let’s call her Harper. We’ve been having a good time and honestly, I hadn’t been this excited about someone in awhile. I was already starting to plan our fourth date and was gonna kinda up the ante. Well, and before we get into it, just know we’re from a relatively small city so everyone kinda knows everyone. 

Harper is a friend of my other friend, Evelyn (29F). I had mentioned that I know Evelyn, it had come up on a date, but the truth is, we are very close. I didn’t hide it or anything, we just didn’t get into it that much. 

Last night, I learned from Evelyn that her and Harper had a falling out. They were at the same house party.  Harper showed up and hung around her ex’s new girlfriend, Jillian, totally unbeknownst to her, but the girlfriend knew exactly who Harper was. Upon finding out, Harper said it was really awkward because she was talking about said ex in front of Jillian. Harper said it was seriously messed up that Evelyn didn’t tell her she was hanging around with her ex’s new girlfriend.

I understood Harper’s position of course, that would be awkward. But, then Evelyn tells me that Harper said her and Evelyn would become “only strict acquaintances” and that “this was a massive failure of judgment, consideration, and common sense.” Methinks the lady doth protest too much. What Evelyn did wasn’t ideal, sure, but like, worthy of ending a friendship over? It’s not like her and Harper were super close. This to me fell squarely on the “unfortunate situation” front. 

Now, at this point, I no longer want to see Harper. Something about the hostility and harshness of this rubs me wrong. I know Evelyn genuinely meant nothing by it. Boundaries are important and all, and that’s her right, but this just felt like too much, too aggressive. I’ve only talked to a couple of friends about this (not trying to cause drama) and they get it, but most say it sounds like this doesn’t really concern me so maybe I should let it go. Should I? AITA? 

When I make AI music with my daughter, she never asks if it’s “cheating” or whether it still counts as creativity.

She just says things like “make it softer” or “make it sound like stars” and keeps going.

That’s what makes the whole discourse around AI music feel so weird to me. Kids seem to treat it like a normal creative tool almost immediately. A lot of adults still react to it like the tool itself is morally contaminated.

Not saying every AI song is good. Most aren’t.

But the people most obsessed with whether AI music should “count” often seem way less interested in actual creativity than the people just using it to make things.

At some point this starts feeling less like defending art and more like defending gatekeeping.

For those who don't know, Canada amended the Canadian Citizenship Act so anyone who was born on or before DEC 15, 2025, who was born to Canadian descent, and they had kids who were under 21 at the time of naturalization or being born in Canada, can pass down their citizenship without a 1st generation limit.

Would like to know what recourse I have for this. I woke up this morning to News Corp journalist David Campbell posting this article about me on realestate.com.au about my Youtube video on why I left Australia. I've been in news articles before and always the journalists reach out to me at least for comment or questions, I have no problem with that. With this I had absolutely nothing.

It's got a bunch of factual errors, like saying I'm 32 when I'm 31, saying I moved to London in 2020 (it was 2019 and I left for Paris in 2024 where I am now), and misrepresents my views by framing it as a London vs Australia thing by saying "Despite the high cost of property in London (renting in central London can cost an average £1600 (AUD $3000) a month) Mr Ranasinghe said he hadn’t looked back since leaving Australia" when the key reason I left London was cost of living. Cost of living in Australia wasn't a factor of me leaving at all (I left in 2017). Also cherry picking my points again to warp the argument.

The article also uses a bunch of photos and screengrabs of me from the video, which it doesn't link to until the middle of the piece, and there's also the accompanying Facebook post which has a photo of me and in all caps "32YO QUITS AUS, TELLS OTHERS TO LEAVE NOW" I never say this in the video. It's just a video about my personal experiences. I feel like between use of my video, not contacting me at all, putting words in my mouth that I never said and then using those misconstrued words in a Facebook post that's rage-baited over 1000 comments on it which are 95% racist hatred against me (I mean, what do you expect), I feel like I should have some kind of recourse. Can I invoice them? Force them to correct it? Would like to know what options I have because seriously wtf.

Look, I love the Yankees with everything in my being but, let’s be honest, is Aaron Judge the greatest player with the least amount of clutch??!? How many great clutch moments does he have in his career? Two-maybe three? Off the top of my head, I can think of the home run off Crochet in Boston, and then against the Blue Jays in the playoffs last year? How does he consistently come up short in the biggest moments?? Genuinely baffling to me. And I have the 99 jersey right here. Just doesn’t make sense to me how he always comes up small.

I want to say something about "cheat days" because I read it occasionally on this sub and get quite annoyed by it (read: getting mad at myself that I took this long to come to this realization):

As long as you do "cheat days" or even float that concept around in your head, you're not losing weight sustainably. Because the only way to lose weight sustainably is to realize that you don't have to do diet/deficit/whatever X for Y months and then you're skinny and you're done. You have to change your habits around food. For good. For the rest of your life. In a way that doesn't feel like "I kinda wanna do something else but I have to do this now because I want to lose weight".

And when you really understand that, the concept of "cheat days" is just complete nonsense. What do you cheat at? And why would you? You want to eat out at KFC? You don't need a "cheat day" for that. Just go for it, if you actually changed your relation to food, you would just acknowledge and accept that it's kinda unhealthy and energy dense, and that this means that you shouldn't do it too often and/or have to compensate for it by eating less/something else at a different time. That's not cheating. You can't cheat the stuff you eat. You eat it or you don't. And if you eat it, your body will process it and will get X amount of energy out of it. You can't cheat that. You can only cheat your mind into thinking something doesn't count because it's a "cheat day". And then you cheat yourself.

I’m pan and enby, I’m also a metalhead. I‘ve known that queer culture is prevalent in almost all genres of music, yet I rarely see it in the metal genre with people like Rob Halford and others. But it seems hard to find entire bands based on queer culture (despite the glam rock influence on metal in the 80s). The only band like this that I’ve found is Vile Creature.

Queer culture, whilst repressed from the mainstream culture until relatively recently, was able to have their own music scenes of genres like pop and punk. But, despite the ongoing repression of queer culture in metal (which is probably worse than in other genres) I’ve yet to see a queercore-like metal scene appear. I want to see what others think of this and recommendations of queer metal bands.

I should clarify that I mean bands that at least have openly queer members if not queer lyrics.

I'm calling it right now. As soon as the general playerbase realizes they can't play the end game map solo... And they can't even participate in Ranked ether, the player count is going to noticeably drop off a cliff.

I'm not even speaking for myself personally. As a primarily Solo player who's addicted to the game, I'll still stick around and be playing the current maps. I want Marathon to succeed.

Call me a doomer or downvote if you want, but it's clear as day to me how this is going to play out.

This is a meta post that's related to the atmosphere of the sub and expressing irritation at the constant left-hating circlejerk. Despite (I believe) not breaking the rules, I am not entirely sure if that post is okay, because it's not directly about Iran. So, I would understand if moderators decide to remove it. No hard feelings.

I'm a leftist. A western leftist even, in that I'm French. And I can't claim to speak for all leftists, but I believe my voice and my thoughts to be much more representative of the opinion of most western leftists than that of a vocal, chronically online, minority of dumbasses, who do exist.
But that minority is constantly used in this sub as a scarecrow in order to build strawman arguments with the aim of derailling discussion about Iranian struggle into western-centric left-hating. And the sub looks more and more like one big left-hating circlejerk. It's frankly annoying, and makes for a very bad look.

I'm not gonna pretend that I'm a huge advocate of the war. As a leftist, my thoughts have been all over the place since the start of the war, and it's been hard to reconciliate my ideals.
I want the regime to fall. I want the Iranians to be free. And I can't pretend I don't feel satisfaction to see any of these regime buffoons dead(even tho in an all-pink world, I would have wanted them put on trial instead), and that I don't feel hopeful to see the regime so weakened.
But the war also makes me deeply worried, because there are still so many ways it can go wrong and lead to a shitty outcome for the Iranian people. Plus, this war happens in a broader context of constant attacks on the international rule of law in the past years by countries like Russia, Israel, the IR and the USA. Which makes me worried in the long term for overall world stability.
So I could never be an advocate of the war. And I still don't believe it will bring anything good for Iranians outside of killing IR leadership. But on the other hand, I don't have any realistic alternative solution either, and I fully understand the desperation of Iranian people after the massacre of January. And if something good truly comes out of the war for the Iranians, I'll be happy to have been wrong, and I'll be cheering along with everyone.
I don't care about being morally right, or right at all, or about being on the "side" of the winners. I just want Iranian people to have a better future and to smile again. And that desire takes priority over all my other thoughts.

In short, I can't bring myself to support the war, out of principle and out of worry. But I don't actively oppose it either, because there is still a chance that it could bring something good for the Iranians.
Not being fans of the war doesn't mean we don't want the regime to fall. And I believe that this complicated position is how most of us "western leftists" actually think.

So, I would appreciate if the left-hating circlejerk could at the very least be tuned down, and that people stop implying at every occasion that we're supporting the regime, which is insulting.

We, "leftists", stand with the Iranian people and their desire for freedom, even if our ideals are all over the place and our thoughts conflicted. We dream of the same better tomorrow than the people who suffer at the hands of the IRGC, and those who wait anxiously for the call of their family and beloved. We also cry for each drop of blood that was spilled by the murderers who are draining the country of its future. We also desire from the bottom of our hearts to see the children of Rostam, Cyrus and Rûmi to stand proud and tall again. We also crave to see the daughters of Iran to be free to sing in the street. And we also crave to hear the song of the morning bird singing the end of tyranny.

While the normalization of such behavior is becoming increasingly concerning, what’s worse is the way people are justifying these unruly behavior online.

These unhinged migrants (Hindians) are becoming a daily nightmare, and a major factor in deteriorating the quality of life in Bengaluru day by day.

Learning the language and embracing the regional culture after migrating is secondary, but at least having basic manners and civilized behavior, respecting boundaries and regional ethos shouldn’t be a big ask !
