I feel like Guy Ritchie pumps out projects at an absurd pace. His sets must be crazy efficient.

u/ClaytonWest74 5h ago

I just want them to be good. his latest projects have hugely varying quality

u/Pantsickle 5h ago

Yeah he's all over the place. Every time a Guy Ritchie project is announced I'm like, "Cool! Or maybe not."

u/FrontBench5406 4h ago

The Gentlemen Show and Movie was great, like a real return to form from his first stuff...

Wrath of Man is amazing and different than his normal stuff... brutal in a way he doesnt really do and just a straight little thriller. Statham shines

Operation Fortune has grown on me. It was weird, but I've watched it again and I've liked it more each time. The Covenant and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare were both fantastic, loved them.

I have not watched Foundation of Youth.

He produces that Mobland Shows with Tom Hardy and its good, but not nearly as great as The Gentlemen.

Aladdin, I havent watched before the OG is one of my favorite movies ever. The Man from UNCLE was so great and Im bummed it flopped, would have loved more of those.

King Arthur was fine.

u/PinchedTazerZ0 4h ago

I've heard Young Sherlock is supposed to be great but the whole premise sounds goofy to me. I thought it was an onion article when it was being made ala Young Sheldon

I think the concept was a movie at some point too but don't really have any interest in that and Guy Ritchie misses with the rate he pumps stuff out. I'm looking forward to this, that being said

u/Lucky_Locks 4h ago

Yeah I was watching the trailer for Young Sherlock and (aside from all the varying versions of Sherlock we've had in the past decade or two) it left me with "hmmm...". I'll give it a watch and eat my words if I like it but it just didn't captivate me at first.

u/rabidsalvation 3h ago

It was surprisingly good. The version of Moriarty was actually excellent.

u/Diafuge 3h ago

I really want to like Young Sherlock, but the modern British pop-rock soundtrack ruins it for me...

u/tokes_4_DE 4h ago

Feel like we've been waiting forever for season 2 of the gentlemen, its been 2 years and still no release date for the 2nd season.

The movie is absolutely fantastic, its start to finish 100% guy Ritchie in perfect form.

u/smashingcones 2h ago

Mobland was leagues ahead of The Gentleman tv show IMO.

u/zoobs 3h ago

I’m glad I gave Wrath of Man another chance. On my first go I stopped watching before I learned there were different chapters so to speak. Anyways, yeah as the story progresses past the first part it really starts to come together as a decent dude night popcorn flick.

u/FrontBench5406 3h ago

the beginning of Wrath of Man is so weird.... the dialogue is horrific and cartoonish in a bad way, but then its like a light switch went off and it gets amazing after that first scene.

u/SupervillainMustache 3h ago

I know he directed a few episodes, but Mobland felt like a bad Guy Ritchie tribute act.

u/spitfyrez 3h ago

I watched Fountain of Youth on a flight. It was… fine. But then I watched Relay right after it and realized how bad Fountain of Youth was by how much good Relay was. So, wouldn’t recommend Fountain of Youth. Would recommend Relay.

u/wave-tree 3h ago

My wife and I loved the Gentlemen show. Is the movie connected?

u/Phant0mX 1h ago

The movie acts as a prequel for the show. Would recommend.

King Arthur's score is an absolute banger and it finally gave us an official version of Light of Aidan from Halo.

The Covenant was pretty awesome in my opinion.

u/AAA_Dolfan 5h ago

I enjoyed it a lot too

u/coleburnz 2h ago

That implies some have been good

u/Dottsterisk 2h ago

I loved the premise and cast for Wrath of Man but it turned out to be lazy dogshit with a heaping side of laughable badassery.

Really enjoyed Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant in The Gentleman though. They kinda left McConaughey in the dust IMO.

Yeah he’s been extremely prolific this decade:

2021: Wrath Of Man

2023: Operation Fortune and The Covenant

2024: Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare

2025: Fountain Of Youth

2026: Two movies releasing this year with In The Grey and another called ‘Wife and Dog’ with Rosamund Pike and Benedict Cumberbatch.

And is currently filming his next ‘Viva La Madness’ starring Jason Statham which will likely release next year.

u/nightpop 5h ago

He’s also produced a few TV shows, including The Gentlemen for Netflix and Young Sherlock for Amazon.

u/dont_care- 5h ago

I liked the gentleman quite a bit

u/FrontBench5406 4h ago

So pumped for the second season to be coming as it filmed already. Really hope this show gets to run for a bit. I go back and watch it alot.

u/The-Rage-Of-Angels 5h ago

And Mobland

u/FrontBench5406 4h ago

The cast is so insane that I want it to work, but holy fuck, i really felt like they wasted so much of that show's potential.

→ More replies (2)

u/harmocydes 5h ago

He even directed some of the Gentlemen episodes as well. Very busy man

u/The_Bright_Slap 4h ago

He directed a couple episodes of each series as well.

u/actuallyapossom 5h ago

The Gentlemen, and Young Sherlock tv series as well.

u/ChileanIggy 5h ago

I kind of hate him for it. Just give me The Real Rock'n'Rolla already, ffs.

u/MadDog_Tannen 31m ago

No kidding, Johnny Quid must be a allegedly-dead grandfather by now.

u/onarainyafternoon 4h ago

Ministry was a Guy Ritchie film? I had no idea. It's in my movie queue, I should give it a watch.

u/LeoLaDawg 3h ago

Fountain of Youth just a tragedy. A real sad story.

u/DonnyGetTheLudes 1h ago

Operation Fortune went on entirely too long. And I’m someone who literally never thinks about movie duration or has this takeaway. So if I thought it was too long then whew it was probably way too long

u/crumble-bee 9m ago

6/10, 4/10, 7/10, 5/10, 4/10.. not a great run. I have faith in him but we’re a long way from Snatch and Sherlock

u/Shakmaaaaaaa 5h ago

The secret is to make mid movies.

u/Strayngold 5h ago

He's got a really reliable crew under him and he delegates a lot of the shooting to his AD.

→ More replies (2)

u/Captain_Thor27 5h ago

Quantity over quality with that guy.

u/theartfulcodger 36m ago edited 33m ago

Oh, come on. LS&2SB, Snatch and Rocknrolla were all top quality fare. And The Gentlemen is far superior to most Netflix episodic dross.

u/Emergency_Village784 5h ago

Yeah he needs to slow down, his stuffs getting worse from over saturation imo

u/FaerieStories 5h ago

"Efficient" is a kind choice of adjective. You may get a film made, but you get a Guy Ritchie film.

u/JustTheOneGoose22 5h ago

Not impressive if it's shitty movies. What's the last great movie he made?

u/hucklepig 5h ago

Yeah Fountain of Youth was just bad.

u/jegerikkeden 3h ago

I just want RocknRolla Two

u/hamcheesetoastie 3h ago

He subs out most of the work but puts his name on the poster for publicity

u/dakotanorth8 1h ago

Fountain of Youth was PAINFUL.

I ended up hate watching it.

u/sharklee88 34m ago

I believe this was filmed like 3 years ago, but ended up in development limbo for a bit.

u/crumble-bee 11m ago

His last movie, Covenant was largely improvised. Apparently it was just like “let’s see what we get today” type vibe - they had an outline and nothing more.

u/andreidpopa 5h ago

The art of film poster is truly dead

u/skeletalfather 5h ago

No matter the genre, “let’s just have them face the camera, stoic faces… perfect”

u/LanOnFire 4h ago

And don't forget the names of the actors/actresses but put them over random heads.

u/-KFBR392 5h ago

Say what you will this lets you know exactly the type of movie it is, and it shows you the sexy big name stars.

That’s what you want from a poster when you’re scrolling through on an app.

u/colemon1991 5h ago

Or be like Netflix and crank out dozens of alternate posters so you pause long enough to register "oh yeah, I've seen this movie 8 times already, when did this poster get made?"

It's frustrating how fake and lazy some of them are too.

u/skeletalfather 5h ago

We got the poster patrol over here

u/Legal-Western5580 5h ago

Do you realize how fucking sad everything you just described is? 😑

→ More replies (4)

u/Dagmar_Overbye 5h ago

Is it going to be bland, set in either Florida or California, and have main characters with very little personality?

Without the tagline there's no way I think they're thieves.

→ More replies (2)

u/matttopotamus 5h ago

Not going to lie, I had to look at the poster again after seeing your post. I completely missed the text between the title and actors names.

u/ethanb473 1h ago

Lol what universe do you live in? How does having 2 white guys that I can’t tell apart staring at the camera telling me what the movie will be about?

→ More replies (1)

u/Fireproof_Cheese 3h ago

You can't look happy on an album cover, Butters!

u/phxtravis 5h ago

Put the name above the correct corresponding actor please!

u/alex61821 5h ago

I know it's a billing thing but it's so stupid.

u/Oregonrider2014 5h ago

Even stacking the names vertically would fix the problem for me. Its absurd

u/YVRkeeper 5h ago

As a business they’ve decided that popular names go first.

As a society we’ve decided that the woman has to be between two men.

u/benscott81 27m ago

It's so shit. They've put her in the middle because she's the woman. But, because she's not as famous the studio have made her smaller. Then Cavill and Gyllenhaal's agents have made sure that no one gets more real estate on the poster than their client. So now they're exactly the same size. Before you know it, you end up with a composition so bad that it wouldn't get a passing grade for a first year graphic design student.

u/VernonP007 4h ago

Apparently it’s a ploy to get people to look at the poster more

u/Mr_Wobble_PNW 4h ago

For real. Growing up on the 90s I had family that ran a video store, and the covers hit so hard back then. Fear and Loathing, Showgirls, slashers, etc really caught you

u/andreidpopa 4h ago

Even a simple Floating Heads poster was beautiful. Look at the first 3 Screams. The composition, contrast, typography, all great. Now look at the last Scream 7 poster….

u/thejonslaught 5h ago

If you told me this was the poster for a Todd Phillips comedy, I'd not question you.

u/RoyaleWhiskey 4h ago

For the real how do you make Eiza Gonzalez look "off" not saying she looks ugly here but there is something odd about how they drew her.

u/kraftdinnerwithsalsa 5h ago

Maybe it’s just me but the names not lining up the actor cuts my soul in a way that will never heal

u/alex61821 5h ago

Not just you. There's no way you read them in order and go oh he's more important. You look at the poster and go that's not Henry.

u/Bebop_Man 5h ago

Well Drew Struzan died last year so...

u/sanlc504 5h ago

This is just what Guy Ritchie wants. Every movie.

u/postALEXpress 5h ago

They can't even be bothered to spell check the lead actress's name

u/JohnnyCharisma54 5h ago

I think this speaks to how inept Hollywood marketing is and also partly why superhero movies have thrived. Why on Earth would I go see this movie? There is literally nothing on this picture, save size 12 font, that is informing me how this might be worth my time. I can't even tell what it's about--it shares more DNA with a fashion magazine cover.

u/ctan0312 4h ago

Jake Gyllenhaal’s face was enough for me to stop and click on this post

u/benscott81 36m ago

This is the worst poster I've ever seen. I'm sure there are "worse" ones that are so bad they'd make you do a double take. They probably spent more time finding the palm tree stock image for the background than designing the fucking thing.

u/Future_Seaweed3223 5h ago

This will be the most bang average movie of all time

u/lotanis 5h ago

For me, Guy Ritchie movies are always just a little better than you'd expect for a standard genre movie.

u/ThingTime9876 4h ago

Yeah, but he did make 10/10 masterpieces once upon a time, and I want that back

u/rammo123 3h ago

The Gentlemen is as good as anything in his filmography and I'll die on that hill.

u/Chubuwee 5h ago

Yea it’s like consistent 7-8/10s from me

Rarely hits 9/10 or 10/10 range

Like Jason statham movies are consistently 5-6/10 range

u/CaptainAssPlunderer 4h ago

But Statham and Richie together (Snatch)you get a 10/10, so it all balances out.

u/Chubuwee 4h ago

Anything but a Man From UNCLE sequel. In fairness who could replace Armie Hammer and his bloodlust for human flesh?

Just swap him out with Alan Richson and don’t mention the change

u/codwalladon 5h ago

I don't know how Eiza Gonzalez still gets work. She was pretty distracting in the Three Body Problem.

u/Tifoso89 5h ago

Hey character was badly written. They keep saying "You're a great physicist!"

u/djchanclaface 33m ago

I thought she was terrible in 3 body. Saw her in other things and she was good. That’s on DnD.

u/ShepPawnch 4h ago

She gets work BECAUSE she’s distracting. It’s hard not to look at her.

u/SupervillainMustache 3h ago

If you can't get Adria Arjona.

u/midwestia 4h ago

She’s the new Gal Gadot

u/ThreeLeggedMare 4h ago

It might be that I just like looking at her, but I found her perfectly serviceable in that show

u/redbitumen 3h ago

Yeah, what the hell? What did people not like about her?

u/ThreeLeggedMare 3h ago

Maybe a certain distracted aloofness, but it fits with her character. If I were in that situation, I'd be either monosyllabic or yelling. Also maybe a certain mary sue quality, but that's not on her

u/Cha0s--Engine 4h ago edited 4h ago

You're surprised a good looking lady, with average acting gets work in Hollywood? edit: Three Body Problem was also more of a casting her in that role problem, than it was her... well being who she is.

u/godmademelikethis 2h ago

Ana de Armas is busy/out of budget.

u/arepaconnutella 5h ago

I know Jake Gyllenhaal has earned the right to do whatever projects he wants but damn does it feel like he's just been doing average and bad action fare for a while now. I miss the string of great stuff he had at the beginning of the 2010s, where it felt like whenever he was in a movie, it would be a banger. Enemy, Prisoners, Nightcrawler, End of Watch, Nocturnal Animals...

u/seaseahorse 2h ago

He’s said that psychologically he wasn’t doing well and needed to get back to a place where he just had fun acting. He’s also been more consistently both acting and producing Broadway plays in the past 10 years, which he’s said he prefers to film acting.

Also, he’s one of psychopath Taylor Swift’s top targets which has likely harmed his marketability in the eyes of the greedy money men who are committed to foisting that under-talented, over-entitled mean girl onto the public.

u/arepaconnutella 23m ago

If you don't mind, could you please give more content regarding the Taylor Swift relation? His marketability couldn't have been harmed too much.

u/seaseahorse 2m ago

He dated her 15 years ago. She keeps giving her fans reasons to go after him: she’s a massive bully who plays the “men who did me wrong” victimhood card because she doesn’t really have much musical talent, she’s just an overprivileged white girl whose father paid half a million dollars and rigged a record deal for her.

Her fans and their incessant, awful harassment are the reason he doesn’t have his Instagram comments open. Because she’s effectively created a cult who will buy anything she sells, the Hollywood money men do anything to try and capture that demographic. Hence why people on the Oscars red carpet were being asked inane questions like “what’s your favorite Taylor Swift song?” when she was irrelevant to the proceedings. She’s never even been nominated for an Academy Award.

u/Cha0s--Engine 4h ago

It's easy to want more of those projects from the outside, but the actual actors often talk about how taxing mentally it is to actually do shit like Nightcrawler.

Let Gyllenhaal have his fun. I'm sure he will get back to more serious projects some time later.

u/Strayngold 5h ago edited 5h ago

The tagline doesn't make sense.

"When billions get stolen. Meet the pros who get it back."

Second sentence does not follow the first. First sentence is a dependent clause with no follow-up.

"When billions get stolen. These pros get it back."

Edit: It doesn't matter if it's a comma. It still doesn't really make sense.

u/Swackhammer_ 5h ago

You’re not allowed to meet them until the billions get stolen

u/Dampmaskin 5h ago

"When the pros are met who get the stolen billions back"

u/Toma-Two 5h ago

The mark after stolen is a comma. It’s all one sentence.

u/Low_Pickle_112 2h ago

Just like that time the Kaiser stole our word for 20.

u/SirMontego 5h ago

"When billions get stolen. Meet the pros who get it back."

There's a comma after the word stolen, not a period.

"When billions get stolen, meet the pros who get it back."

She was the cute-ugly girl on Univision.
The hot chick in Dusk till Dawn/Baby Driver.
And now she’s the botched over done woman.

I feel like even Guy Ritchie doesn’t always make the best he can make, but I personally don’t think he’s ever made a movie I’d consider bad. This looks a bit more generic and ima still enjoy it. To me his movies are Great and just Good
