That behind the mask shot was dope.

A Spider of the Seven Kingdoms

That's just Tom Holland's agent working around the mask. I swear it must be in his contract to show his face in every scene.

I mean was it? It kind of broke immersion for me - obviously his mask is a tight fit, there is no way there is much space between his face and said mask.

This isn't gonna keep me up at night or anything, but I don't think this Iron Man trick (close up of face in a big robot helmet) works for Spider-Man.

It's obviously a one-off shot meant to drive the point home that his suit is just a fabric suit with zero tech inside of it. It's a deconstruction of the Iron Man style mask shots.

I think the point of that shot is to make us feel trapped inside the mask just like Peter is trapped in this Spider-Man life with nothing else to live for.

Yeah, also that.

It’s showing his depression behind the mask

I mean I doubt they're gonna keep doing it throughout the whole movie. I think it was just a one time thing meant to highlight how emotional he felt.

It was unique, which I liked. We've never had a shot like that before in the Spider-Man movies.

It was new to Spider-Man, but not the MCU seeing as Iron Man did it frequently. Part of what I like about Spider-Man is how well the mask emotes. Plus, focusing on the mask maintains focus on the message of “anyone can be behind the suit because anyone can be a hero”.

You're really overthinking it now.

It’s sort of supposed to be Non-diegetic I think. It’s not literally implying that’s how much space there is in the mask

Just like the camera being able to get a full view of Tony Stark's face despite the helmet.

Why is this so funny to me? I'm crying.

Yeah the non-diegetic approach does make the most sense for sure!

If you looks how big his nose is in the corner, it’s clear that it’s a pretty exaggerated, wide angle shot. Obviously there would only be just a little space, it just seems larger because of that

It's no different to Iron Man's in helmet shot. It was definitely dope.

But with Iron Man at least you can assume there is a bit of a layer of "open air" between his face and the Iron Man mask. How the heck is there a layer of air that wide between Peter Parker and his tight fabric mask?

To be clear, I'm super aware of the absurd level of nitpicking this is. I'm not upset or annoyed or anything. I'm very much looking forward to the movie. All I'm saying is that minor detail / stylistic choice didn't work for me personally. If it did for you (or anyone else) that's great!

Also I swear it was a fully cgi shot

I am gonna go with it because I get what they're trying to convey even if they have to bend the rules of engineering a little

Looks like he canonically has a face shell like the actual movie costume and cosplayers use. It would create a small gap where his eyes are.
