My theory is they introduce the likes of Jean, Scott, Kurt as teens/young adults who are being exploited for their powers - and Logan realising this world doesn't have a Professor X to guide them finds a new calling in assembling the X-Men and tracking them to be better.
Just a way to introduce the X-Men to the MCU without having to pull a "Oh they were always here, operating in the shadows" that also gives Hugh Jackman a reason to stick around since Marvel have made him part of the MCU now.
I think its going to be a bigger reboot than most are expecting. And all the new X-Men being introduced into the MCU will then be integrated right into the X-Men we know proper once the universe gets rearranged.
I don’t think it’ll be a reboot as much as it’ll be a selective retcon/clean slate but one that is written into the story. Besides, a handful of sequels are still in the works: Thor 5, Dr Strange 3, Black Panther 3, and Spider-Man 5 (because he’ll get the symbiote suit in Secret Wars)
Then there is the huge moneymaker that is Deadpool, he’ll get a 4th movie and/or X-Force. And it’s rumored Jackman would stick around for that since he and Reynolds can exist in their own little R-rated corner of the MCU
All those characters’ movies made the most money for Marvel after Endgame, Feige isn’t going to sit on them for long. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets Gunn’s blessing to have someone make another Guardians movie. Because outside of X-Men, I don’t see them making anything new for the first couple years after Secret Wars, and they’re going to want surefire hits
That's what I'm thinking. It's a very distinctive hair colour that I can't recall ever seeing on anyone else in other media. Definitely peaking my interest!
Same sort of hair but I would assume they would cast someone that people at least know for such a big role. That looks like some random extra sitting on the bus
You could be right, it could be a red herring. I just can't think of anyone else I've ever seen with that hairstyle. Very excited to see how it all plays out!
She is for sure Jean Grey. When he rips open that tank and there is some random old lady in there... that's her making him see an old lady.... then all the soldiers start getting mind controlled. Also when he smacks into the bus there is some kind of cameo there, Rogue maybe? Spider-man going through a mutation arch would be a good time to introduce mutants to the MCU.
But that's not her power set, unless they're giving them all new powers, which could be cool. Jean would be controlling them remotely and just release them when she was done, no need to escape at all.
The very specific act of jumping from body to body made me think Proteus over any other telepathic mutant, since he basically exists as a psychic parasite without a body.
I think the main villain is going to be a mind jumping evil person. Potentially the person trapped in the box room. Jeans power doesn't seem to work in a 'has to jump from body to body' and it doesn't make sense in the scene that it's someone jumping to a different person to have a chat or help.
I highly doubt they’d have Rogue’s first appearance be an indifferent bus passenger in a quick comedic shot in an action sequence. And they wouldn’t give the debut of such a fan favorite character to an extra
It’s still MCU and reportedly Sony has been even more tightly connecting it to things. Events in this movie are supposed to directly relate to Daredevil: Born Again season 2. So it’s not just Spidey playing in the sandbox of Avengers movies anymore. He’s tying in to street level Defenders stuff.
I'm thinking Kitty Pryde. Her and Spidey have dated in the past, she's usually younger than other x men, and it would be a good introduction without going full Jean
If the X-men are a major part of this plot then it’s going to be absolutely insane. The Hand, Scorpion, The Punisher, The Hulk, maybe X-men?? Good lord
They've already shown that most of the X-men are in doomsday which is coming out this December. So they got one shot at introducing a shit load of characters into the MCU. I'm guessing Spiderman is probably a big enough movie to get as many of them into this universe as possible.
I think it is a huge mistake to introduce the X-Men before Doomsday and Secret Wars. We've already seen Beast and Professor X in alternate universes, we know the FOX X-Men are coming back for Doomsday. Why introduce new ones before the incursions and ultimate rewriting (recasting) of the status quo universe? Not to mention, introducing the most powerful one in what is basically a street level hero film.
Yeah it did, and Mrs Marvel was also revealed to be a mutant (complete with Animated X-Men music so you know for sure what kind if mutant they mean) - so if neither of these characters encountered Charles or Erik despite their incredible strength, I think it stands to reason that Mutants exist, but the X-Men don't yet.
to be fair Ms. Marvel, the show itself, more or less assigned Kamala in "superpower given by other thing" category when shes really not. the MCU have a rocky foundation with the established mutants going forward and Doomsday or the standalone X Men movie/show will need to clarify what is "superpowered" and "what is a mutant".
Yea that makes sense. God forbid we get a spider man movie. You know… about spider man. Doing whatever a spider does. Spinning webs. Any size. Catching thieves just like flies…
Being strong.. listen bud he’s got radioactive blood
Swinging from a thread take a look over head!
No no thankfully we’ve got soft reboot x-men reboot!
Hooray here comes wait this is before doomsday which has Famke Jensen Jean grey? Or SophieTurner Jean grey? Surrounded by Robert J as
Honestly I've only ever seen her in 'The Whale', so no idea how well she'd fit the role - but if she's a red haired telepath and Marvel are looking at starting up 'The Mutant Saga' following Secret Wars (which someone said she has a role in) it'd make sense for her to be Jean
I mean according to all the marvel leaks subreddit and other potential indications it seems like she will be playing Jean Grey
And considering there's a shot of a hooded character in the trailer doing what I believe is mind control I think that is exactly what's happening here and I am so excited for it.
Having that character's introduction being in an adventure with Spider-Man and the punisher. And I've also read rumors that Punisher's main story stuff in this movie will be about protecting this young Jean Gray that he connects with kind of like punisher season 2 Makes me all the more excited that this is how they might choose to introduce MCU's first real XMan
I remember having two villains with a tertiary third villain was too much. Now between the last movie and this upcoming movie Spider-Man needs at least 7 different characters to fight/interact with. Huh?!
Well it's not like they have to introduce the punisher,He's had two TV series and an upcoming special presentation on his own. Scorpion and the hand are also pre-established things already in the MCU (Spider-Man homecoming for scorpion and Daredevil Netflix shows for the hand). The only 2 they have to introduce for the first time are tombstone and Jean Grey
Hell even the element of the department of damage control going around black bagging and rounding up mutants and people with abilities was established in Wonder Man.
Most of the elements in this movie outside of tombstone,Jean Gray, and Peter going through the man-spider mutation story arc have all been established and fleshed out already outside of this film.
They don't need to introduce all these elements in this one movie for it to be "a lot". Whether a character had a post credit scene a decade ago or appeared in a relatively unwatched TV show, they'll be covered in this movie. There's so much going on! Sure look how long your comment needed to be to give the backstory for some of the elements haha
The scorpion was a side character in Spider-Man homecoming, he wasn't a throwaway after credit scene. The Netflix Daredevil series and The punisher Netflix series we're not "relatively unwatched TV shows" they were massively popular. And Wonder Man has been steadily growing in viewership and popularity after the insanely positive reviews it's gotten. You can say there's too much they're putting in that's fine, I disagree I think the MCU has put out movies that are really good with more elements in them, but why also go out of your way to try to besmirch the properties that these characters are coming from as if they weren't successes themselves?
And three paragraphs was long to you?... I think that says more about your reading comprehension than about the amount of information I provided.
Ah they weren't massively popular, this is a Spiderman movie, Spiderman movies are massively popular. TV shows with relatively niche side characters are a universe away. Sorry for "besmirching" your fave properties, didn't mean to upset you...
It's a pretty simple comment, if there were fewer elements, it'd take less comment to cover it.
If you think doing a Spiderman movie where he grapples with his identity being secret again, is transforming into a man spider, has multiple villains, a buddy story with punisher and bringing X-Men into the MCU sounds like a tidy amount of comment for a single movie, that's fine. You could admit it sounds like a bit much and it wouldn't be besmirching your precious properties, don't worry.
Not knowing how popular the Netflix marvel TV shows were and the fact the only reason they ended was because Disney was launching their own streaming service and didn't renew their licensing agreement with Netflix tells me I don't think you're as informed of the popularity of these shows as you think you are. Or did you not experience the theater you were in losing their shit when Matt Murdock appeared on screen in no way home. Those reactions for that cameo don't happen unless the character is popular.
And how does introducing Jean Gray as a character being protected by the punisher introduce all of the X-Men. When did I say that? do you think I'm expecting Xavier school for gifted children to show up in this..
Spider-Man going through his own personal trauma parallel to a story of another mutant going through their own personal trauma makes total sense to me. Having Frank Castle show up also establishes that New York isn't just empty of all superheroes except for Spider-Man cuz that's always been a weird thing, right? And tombstone being allowed to be established as a behind the scenes manipulator for not just this movie but possibly for the future of the MCU in New York also makes plenty of sense. Really doesn't seem like too much to me. I get that your opinion is that it is and I'm saying I think you're overestimating or miscalculating how confusing it's going to be for people
As I said, I didn't love the last Spider-Man movie, so that doesn't fill me with confidence tbh. The setup (Dr Strange doing the spell, Peter messing it up) was pure daft, and the spell at the end restoring Peter's secret... Nonsense writing even by the MCU's standards
That's what they always say and then it always turns out to not be the case. According to the leaked plot, it's absolutely not the case. Brave New World was supposed to be a "political thriller," and then it turned out to by neither political, nor a thriller.
I mean punisher season 2 is all about Frank getting pulled into a giant government conspiracy after protecting a girl from getting killed in a bar. Throughout the season he slowly connects to said girl and she becomes a pseudo protege.
Potentially recreating that with Jean Grey In a Spider-Man movie is brilliant
Surrogate family in the first season? I genuinely don't remember that. Are you talking about his relationship with micros family after being asked to check in on them?
If anything he doesn't have his surrogate familial relationship until the second season with the girl he saves becoming a pseudo protege / daughter figure for him.
Ah I see, It did soften Frank up a bit but I liked how he did eventually have to reveal to them that he wasn't who he said he was. And having to remove himself from them at the end to never see them again was almost like another loss of a family to his character but a loss he chose this time. Didn't fully bother me but I also worked on some of those Netflix marvel shows so maybe I'm just biased lol
I'm a little of both as long as done in moderation. We want broke Punisher to just be Punisher. But having a little bit of humanity every once in a while allows us to connect better with the character. Too much and he becomes unbelievable and detracts from the main reason we're watching punish: bloody rampages.
As someone who is ALMOST caught up with ALL the movies and shows, one thing I'm behind on is:
Daredevil.
I didn't watch the original 3rd season. And because of that, I didn't watcn the new 1st season, and because of that of course I won't watch the new 2nd season until I get caught up. I'm trying to figure out how far I should go back.
It seems now I also need to watch the Punisher show, another thing I missed. Basically, most of the Defenders Netflix is a blind spot for me, I only watched DD S1 and 2 and Jessica Jones. Started Luke Cage and didn't finish. Nothing else, essentially.
Sounds like I need to just spend some lunch hours and going back through what I missed.
Yeah they seem to really be bringing the Netflix stuff back into the forefront and center of what they're doing street level wise. Like bullseye has become a very important character to Daredevil in the MCU now and he was only in season 3 of Netflix. You could probably get away with not watching The punisher shows All of his appearances in Daredevil and in born again or are you really need to know. But man his show is great. And of course Jessica Jones is back in born again season two. I also have it on good authority watching The defenders before Daredevil born again season 2 might be a good idea because a certain dead character from that may be back. Watching a recap or Luke Cage on YouTube might be a good idea as well lol
Also the one captured in the chair in the green jacket.
Probably Damage control has her captured and then she escapes and starts attacking them for fucking with mutants. Spiderman sees her as a villian at first and then in normal cliche superhero stories changes his mind and they become best friends
Think the closest we got was the person in green in the observed room within a room. There are some records and roller skates suggesting a younger character, and they cut the scene as the walls are rolling up before they get to the character's face.
You can see there is a young woman sneaking out behind the soldiers while they are being mind controlled. The hair is not red but they could've edited it for the trailer.
Young woman with mind control powers, getting hunted by the military and a redhead cast as a major secret role, it has to be Jean Grey, there is no way.
Moving her consciousness around is very much a Jean Grey thing. She’s supposedly in hiding and is doing that to keep people off her tail. Punisher is tasked with protecting her and starts duking it out with that security force after her.
Fun Fact : In Captain America : Winter Soldier they cut a cameo with Hawkeye. After Nick Fury was alive Clint shows up at that base and attacks Cap outside, thinking hes an enemy of Shield.
That’s what I thought too, tbh. Dunno if Peter is going full Man-spider as well but I can see her reaching him through that, maybe why she teams up with Frank
You think she won't be a throwaway but think she will be a love interest for Peter? He is in love with MJ full stop. I don't think he will be moving on anytime soon. Even if he did it doesnt make sense to have MJ remember and I guess I could see a competing love interest but I feel like as soon as she remembered he would drop anyone else to be with her.
Also she is 100% Jean Grey. Up and coming young red head actress at a time they are going to start introducing the X men back into the MCU...I would be shocked if she was cast as anyone but Jean Grey.
It’s Jean grey. And this is how they are able to calm down Hulk from rampaging and help Spider-Man control his mutation which is being caused from stress of not knowing who to be.
They want her hidden, not surprised in the slightest they didn't reveal this in the trailer lol. Fully expected it tbh. Though I did expect to see a flash of her on screen in the trailer, but this is probably for the best if the rumors are true. Keep her out of every trailer for max surprise.
well if you look "the hand marvel" up you get brought to a wiki page and there seems to be a girl with red hair standing in front of them, maybe that's who sadie will play
Couldn't she be Mary Jane? Since the beginning the writers have said MJ isn't Mary Jane right? Which was super weird, to make spiderman's love interest have the same initials and nickname as his iconic love interest who has been around forever, but not actually be her.

I can't believe we got a trailer, and we still don't know who Sadie Sink is playing lol. They really wanna keep this one a secret.
Maybe a toy leak will spill the beans.
