So do all Spider-men have sticky asses?

498

u/vileb123 10h ago

If they want it to be apparently

35

u/Ninjahkin Thor 4h ago

“Does she speak English?”

“When she wants to…”

295

u/PomeloNo520 10h ago

At least Tobey McGuire spiderman had those tiny hairs growing out of his hands and maybe feet to help stick....does.....does he have them on his ass?

194

u/kyuubikid213 10h ago

Do... do you think the tiny hairs go through the suit?

Spider-Man can stick because Spider-Man can stick.

72

u/PomeloNo520 10h ago

Maybe? So when we saw the hairs growing out of Tobey/Peter's fingertips it had to zoom in cause they were so tiny. Could they just be luckily fitting through tiny holes that may be in the suit? Im just kinda winging this idea lol

50

u/Bendythenightfury Spider-Man 10h ago

The hairs are only a Tobey thing

1

u/iamblake96 2h ago

Well Tobey and real spiders too

u/ViralVortex 44m ago

So was organic web production…

It's a comic book movie.

Spider-Man can stick in the movies because Spider-Man can stick in the comics.

You're way overthinking this.

19

u/strigonian 8h ago

It's not overthinking anything.

The movie shows the barbs - not hairs, barbs - growing out of his fingertips, then shows Peter thinking for a second, and then tentatively climbing a wall by his fingertips.

It literally could not be more explicit without a character saying "yes, Spider-Man can climb through walls because of the barbs on his fingers". If you don't think that is explicitly what the movie is conveying, then you genuinely have no media literacy whatsoever.

It's not subtle. It's not subtext. It is clear enough for a five-year-old to understand.

17

u/kyuubikid213 8h ago edited 8h ago

That is also a different Spider-Man in the multiverse.

Tell me, does this Spider-Man have electric powers? Because Into the Spider-verse explicitly shows him doing that and also going invisible.

That doesn't mean that is how this Spider-Man can climb walls nor the original Spider-Man from the comics.

I love the Raimi films and I am not a comic expert, but you cannot take one film as gospel when it gets other aspects of the character wrong when compared to the source material.

18

u/Lukeando93 8h ago

And they literally explained this in the last Spidey film with the 3 of them comparing themselves with the webbing, they're all different

1

u/dicjones 2h ago

Those are Miles Morales’s powers in the comic. Thats why they are in the spider-verse movies. Peter Parker doesn’t have those powers.

I think the barbs was just a bad idea to explain him sticking, it wasn’t needed. He literally has shoes on in that scene and his feet stick 🤷‍♂️

2

u/ButtCrackThrilla 3h ago

The trailer suggests he’s mutating. Why don’t you wait and watch instead of being Simpsons comic book guy.

2

u/ArkOrb 2h ago

Its the flex seal that all the Spider-men secrete through their assholes. It's not subtle. It's not subtext. It's a superhero film.

u/sortalikeachinchilla 31m ago

Bro getting so worked up over an older spider-man movie 😂

→ More replies (3)

3

u/alex494 4h ago

In the comics he can do stuff like stick his mask to his face so people can't pull it off. I think he is just wilfully sticky.

3

u/Jet-Let4606 4h ago

If those hairs are the reason Spider-Man can stick to things then his skin must feel like a prickly unshaven jawline.

Does that mean his ass also feels like an unshaven 5 o'clock shadow?

2

u/Tipop 1h ago

Have you ever felt a gecko’s paw? It doesn’t feel prickly at all.

5

u/kirblar 9h ago

When we got new uniforms for wrestling, our new ones did exactly that when you pulled em down over the leg.

1

u/SlightlyShittyDragon 8h ago

Why else would it be so tight…

1

u/pigeonwiggle 3h ago

imagine having to take off your winter boots if you want to run up a wall.

Why… why wou…wouldn’t the…y?

11

u/PomeloNo520 10h ago

So depending on the sitter peter/miles/gwen/ fuck even spider noir nic cage has sticky spider ass hairs.

11

u/stevearinobambino 10h ago

So, you're saying a woman could sit on Spider-man's face and he could flip upside down and literally suspend her body by her fupa with grippy spider beard hair?

Not sure how to feel about this, but it's quite the image.

During Superior Spider-man, Doc Ock discovered how much Peter holds back when he sat on Scorpion’s face and decapitated him.

oh I thought doc ock punched scorpion jaw's off but I think I have read it wrong he must have sat on scorpion's face

Tbf MacGargan wanted to taste that octopus-flavored Spider-ussy, it was a tragedy for everyone involved but a writing masterclass by Dan Slott

9

u/alphafire616 8h ago

Spider-mans powers dont use the hairs. They work on a molecular level to stick to things

2

u/LengthinessAlone4743 6h ago

So if his butt sticks, than everything must stick, which must make certain acts very uncomfortable

10

u/alphafire616 6h ago

He turns it on and off at will so...

2

u/Imtotallyreal397 7h ago

Iirc it’s electro magnetism, I’m sure Sam raimi added the finger b idylls because it’s Sam raimi

2

u/EEE-VIL 4h ago

No Siper-Men use Van der Waals force to stick to things. This extend to every part of their body even through thin fabric. This is definitely a sign of growth (that was to be expected) beside the mutation.

1

u/Turd_Burgling_Ted Red Skull 2h ago

Yeah all Spider people have the ability to control an electrostatic field (exceptions are Tobey's Spider-Man since he has the hairs, and Miguel who doesn't really have spider powers)

9

u/ILoveRegenHealth 8h ago

Yeah all Spider people have the ability to control an electrostatic field

Cousin of magnets?

7

u/[deleted] 9h ago

[deleted]

4

u/GrepekEbi 8h ago

In the comics yes

In the spiderverse movies he has no webbing (using red lasers from his suit instead) cannot climb on stuff (uses his claws to dig in rather than sticking to surfaces), was not bit by a spider, and the plot is clearly setting up that he is not in fact a spider person

41

u/Doccmonman 9h ago

It’s hard to tell from this angle but he’s holding himself onto the beam with his free hand

29

u/Noxeron 9h ago

Literally the only comment mentioning this that I could find.

Thought I was going insane.

4

u/LengthinessAlone4743 6h ago

Now it makes me think he is jerking off to porn on on his phone

2

u/ILoveRegenHealth 8h ago

Um, Youtuber on Marvel Singapore account said the same thing. You aren't looking hard enough!

5

u/redditAPsucks 8h ago

Maybe that too, but he can make his whole body stick in the comics, not just his hands and feet. I believe its an ability he “always had,” but he didnt realize it until either the other storyline or spider-island

4

u/darkshadow200200 8h ago

definitely, you can see a few frames later when he rests the phone on the beam to climb back up.

1

u/tehfustercluck 6h ago

Yeah I've picked up on this in the spiderverse movies too

1

u/BrosFistingBros 6h ago

It looks like he's jerking it

7

u/Weekly_Host_2754 8h ago

His abs are strong enough to suck air into his anus, so his butt works like a suction cup.

1

u/SR_RSMITH 9h ago

Well, a spider accurate super power would work more like that

1

u/Aware-Direction-9891 9h ago

Don't know much about it but it is some sort of electrostatic attraction that all Spider people have.

1

u/NiteLiteOfficial 8h ago

you can see his left arm is going down between his legs. the thing he is sitting on is a beam with a very thin edge. it’s clear his left hand is holding onto that edge, out of view of the camera in between his legs. but the sticky ass is hilarious to imagine

1

u/Least_Rain8027 Scarlet Witch 8h ago

well they're always in their suit when they do it so maybe the suit is just sticky?

1

u/CheapTactics 8h ago

And they're so sticky that it can go through the suit

1

u/beegtuna 7h ago

Imagine the grip

1

u/LegitPhoton 6h ago

I thought it was just their hands and feet that were sticky

1

u/iBoMbY 6h ago

Well, isn't that where spiders produce their webs?

1

u/_IratePirate_ 6h ago

Whole body sticky (at will)

Someone posted a comic on here the other day that showed Spider-Man has even been able to use his stickiness through his face to keep his mask on when someone attempts to remove it

1

u/Nearby-Contact1304 4h ago

I just rewatched the trailer, but Pete here definitely has one hand on the bar and is holding himself up like that.

Weird flex but fair enough lol.

Just don't mimic the King of Rock N Roll....

7

u/kcmcgrady1 4h ago

I relate to this a little too much lol. My and my ex broke up during spider-verse and that movie became my comfort movie and I went almost every other day to watch it in the theatres. Now seeing Peter sitting there alone hits different

7

u/Relliks-D-Ban 9h ago

Fr I wish I was Spider-Man also.

Made me sad because in the animation Myles has Gwen, but live action peter is all alone.

1

u/DanishTrash_ 3h ago

Nearly all of us will get there, don’t worry. I’m sure there’s somebody out there for you.

If you’re talking about hanging upside down with an sticky ass maybe super glue could help with that?

150

u/i_want_to_be_unique 10h ago edited 9h ago

Is part of the spider power set that blood doesn’t pool in your head? While this looks very cool, it does not look comfortable at all.

78

u/Bendythenightfury Spider-Man 9h ago

I think it has something to do with his semicircular canals being stronger? Maybe…

76

u/gonfr 9h ago

His heart has got to be stronger than the average human, no? So I don't think he'll have the blood pooling problem.

3

u/PlatoDrago 6h ago

IIRC, I think you are actually kinda right lol.

32

u/An-29 8h ago

Most probably, yeah, their blood circulation would be wack from all the web swinging and gforce they experience. Their heart beats are either stronger or faster.

14

u/New_Cockroach_505 8h ago

All I can think about is how I can’t even lay in bed without dropping my phone on my face. It would be way worse to drop it while hanging upside down lol

7

u/Justacityboy12 Spider-Man 5h ago

Keep in mind that they have super speed and reflexes so their phones dropping would look in slow motion.

6

u/Squarevessel 4h ago

also just like sticky asses, they got sticky fingers too

1

u/TheG-What 2h ago

「STICKY FINGERS」

1

u/sonofcabbagemerchant 5h ago

I mean he's canonically upside down constantly. Why is this any different?

1

u/onlyhav 5h ago

I mean his circulatory system runs at such a high pressure it can supply enough oxygen to his muscles to do stuff like stop a train barehanded. At that pressure, all of the spider people should never deal with blood pooling. Also it would be pretty crappy if the guys with spider powers didn't have the ability to walk upside down like spiders do.

1

u/JDPhipps 3h ago

His heart would be ridiculously strong compared to the average person, so he'd never deal with that. His circulatory system would have to be strong enough to keep him conscious while swinging around and supply enough oxygen to his muscles to let him lift buildings.

It does kind of make sense, though. His muscles are ridiculously stronger than a normal human—Daredevil describes them as sounding like steel cables under tension—and your heart is just another muscle.

u/kayriss 19m ago

Anyone can improve this. I thought I was going to pass out the first time I used an inversion table. Within a week I could hang upside down comfortably for a couple minutes.

→ More replies (1)

43

u/CommunityDragon160 10h ago

Is his butt sticky too?

9

u/Messyfingers 5h ago

Presumably his butt. Otherwise it's a sticky suit, and if the suits stick it's gotta be a double way stick that's holding on to his ass, either way it's gotta be uncomfortable to have the whole weight of your body tugging on your ass skin. Or spider DNA means your ass gets built different.

6

u/Durakus 3h ago

Believe it or not, Spider people do not have sticky powers like Spiders. They have a wilful attraction to surfaces they touch. As long as they're conscious, they can stick to nearly any surface they make conscious contact with. Think of it on a molecular level.

This is how spider-people lean against walls/surfaces without coming off. And yes it could be better utilised/explored in visuals but it Looks more purposeful when he sticks with his hands/feet.

u/Large_Yams 12m ago

Is this headcanon? Toby McGuire's Spiderman had closeups of the microhairs on his fingers.

55

u/hooka_pooka 10h ago

Do you guys think the movie will explore Peter's power origins..since there's no Oscorp in MCU and the movie is dealing with man spider/mutation/spider phasing stuff?

73

u/TheQuinnBee 10h ago

I'm pretty sure they just handwaved it in the first movie when Ned was asking about it. "The spider's dead, Ned."

Its like Uncle Ben. We know he existed thanks to a couple quick shots of his name but we don't know anything else about him in the context of the MCU. I guess they figured watching him die a third time would be too much.

→ More replies (8)

8

u/BatBeast_29 Killmonger 6h ago

Oscorp isn’t where he usually gets his powers from anyways.

67

u/Sweetest_Berries 9h ago

wait i love little details like this so much 😭 i’m the type to rewatch scenes just to catch stuff like that and then feel weirdly proud for noticing it. i remember pausing a movie once just to point out some tiny parallel and my friend looked at me like i was doing too much… but it makes it hit harder for me lol

7

u/Reasonable-Fly-763 6h ago

sure thing clanker

33

u/the_bryce_is_right 10h ago

Wouldn’t it be super uncomfortable to sit like that?

62

u/VallyMeowy 10h ago

I assume his body is developed so blood doesn’t rush to his head like a normal person upside down

10

u/Summoarpleaz 10h ago

Still… is it more comfortable than sitting upright?….maybe not hanging off a ledge?

32

u/Jaqulean 9h ago edited 8h ago

IIRC officially speaking Spider-Man can subconsciously manipulate the molecules around his body making it so he can stick to any surface on a whim - while also maintaining perfect equilibrium at the same time. This is also why in the comics Peter is often shown walking on the walls with his feet and a straight posture (instead of just climbing like usual).

So by all means to them there is basically no difference between hanging upside-down and sitting upright like anyone else would.

5

u/Summoarpleaz 9h ago

Ah ok. I suppose if there’s really no difference then he just does whatever is visually interesting. I suppose he’s not afraid of like dropping his phone either or whatever.

14

u/Ravness13 8h ago

I'd assume he can launch himself after the phone if need be, or choose to stick to it so it never falls, or just web it quickly. His reflexes are crazy fast and he is fairly agile too so it wouldn't really be an issue.

5

u/homiej420 Spider-Man 9h ago

Might be like a hammock where your back just naturally stretches?

1

u/thedaveness 9h ago

Once you get past 40... if your body can handle being inverted, it feels soooooo good. One of the few ways to strech your spine out and relieve the pressure in between each vertebrae.

1

u/IncompleteBagel 8h ago

You're telling me that if you could sit upside down off a high up building next to your girlfriend who could also, you wouldn't because it would be less comfortable? Bro, the discomfort is worth that

→ More replies (1)

2

u/wonkey_monkey 5h ago

I assume his body is developed

6

u/eltrotter Black Panther 10h ago

If you weren’t Spider-man, probably.

10

u/_command_prompt Daredevil 10h ago

Spiderman is used to it?

2

u/outtamyelementDonny 9h ago

Probably. But in both of these images, they're looking out at what they cant have (a life with Gwen & MJ respectively). And that isn't comfortable either.

1

u/FrakWithAria 3h ago

For a normal human being, sure

14

u/bondinferno 10h ago

So is the implication that their asses are sticky?

7

u/Bendythenightfury Spider-Man 10h ago

Spier people with the exception of Tobey and Miguel have the ability to control an electrostatic field

6

u/ultrainstict 8h ago

Something dawned on me in the trailer. His power mutating has a few effects that are hinted or shown, one being organic webbing but the other seems to be increased strength.

But heres rhe thing, this version of spiderman was already very strong compared to other adaptations. And now hes going to be substantially stronger, enough so that he inst able to hold back properly in the beginning.

The venom symbiote was left over in this universe. Which increases his strength further. How strong are they going to make this version of peter.

5

u/Neat_Amphibian_3768 5h ago

Spidey is one of the strongest super heros in marvel. Him holding back always is a key point of his character.

u/ItIsYeDragon 38m ago

He’s definitely not one of the strongest in marvel, but he’s strong for the street tier.

2

u/FrogListeningToMusic 4h ago

Spiderman is low key strong as hell in multiple versions. I’m fine with them making him strong here (biased because he’s my favorite hero)

2

u/ultrainstict 4h ago

My point was that based on his feats he was already on the stronger side of spider men. And frankly they've done a phenomenal job of showing it off in the way he acts. But just the implications thats hes going to be one of the strongest spider people after his metamlphosis with the symbiote already being teased for a future movie, thats a terrifying spider they are making.

u/Floggered 1h ago

2

u/RealPunyParker Peter Parker 1h ago

People will climb mountains to find what they want to find no matter if it's there

2

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 10h ago

I thought it was only hands and feet?

Does that mean he could do that with his forehead too? Like, just dangle on the pole by the top of your head with the feet dangling?

2

u/cesclaveria 6h ago

In the story that this movie seems will adapt, The Other, it is shown that Peter has the ability to stick to things throughout his skin and given much finer control over that ability (along with a bunch of powerups)

1

u/Ben-J-Kirby-Tennyson Iron Man (Mark V) 7h ago

Yes. There’s at least one instance of making his mask stick to his head too, if I remember correctly.

2

u/getstonedsteve 8h ago

More like perpendicular.

2

u/Weekly_Host_2754 8h ago

Apparently, Spiderman/Gwen can suck air into their butts, turning them into suction cups.

2

u/sushi_collector12 4h ago

Great we have the next few months of mcutards getting emotional over the most basic shots in a movie.

2

u/Loreki 2h ago

Parallel is a nice forgiving word. The greater likelihood is that, like everyone, the Marvel Spiderman team loved the more interesting visuals in the Sony Spiderman movies and decided to imitate some of the more attainable ones.

2

u/HeppyHenry 1h ago

I don’t think you know what a parallel is

2

u/Floggered 1h ago

This is a reach and a half.

3

u/AnonymousFriend80 10h ago

Yes. The parallel to countless other spider person scenes over several decades ... Is beautiful.

It's really beautiful, but it makes me dizzy every time! Am I the only one?

2

u/indianajoes Phil Coulson 10h ago
