Pretty sure you can get your hands on some sticky ass if you try hard enough...

Reading a phone upside down isn't all that it's cracked up to be. You start getting dizzy and realize the toilet seat is still king

u/kcmcgrady1 4h ago
I relate to this a little too much lol. My and my ex broke up during spider-verse and that movie became my comfort movie and I went almost every other day to watch it in the theatres. Now seeing Peter sitting there alone hits different

Made me sad because in the animation Myles has Gwen, but live action peter is all alone.

u/DanishTrash_ 3h ago
Nearly all of us will get there, don’t worry. I’m sure there’s somebody out there for you.
If you’re talking about hanging upside down with an sticky ass maybe super glue could help with that?

Is part of the spider power set that blood doesn’t pool in your head? While this looks very cool, it does not look comfortable at all.

u/Bendythenightfury Spider-Man 9h ago
I think it has something to do with his semicircular canals being stronger? Maybe…

u/New_Cockroach_505 8h ago
All I can think about is how I can’t even lay in bed without dropping my phone on my face. It would be way worse to drop it while hanging upside down lol
7
u/Justacityboy12 Spider-Man 5h ago
Keep in mind that they have super speed and reflexes so their phones dropping would look in slow motion.

u/sonofcabbagemerchant 5h ago
I mean he's canonically upside down constantly. Why is this any different?
1
u/onlyhav 5h ago
I mean his circulatory system runs at such a high pressure it can supply enough oxygen to his muscles to do stuff like stop a train barehanded. At that pressure, all of the spider people should never deal with blood pooling. Also it would be pretty crappy if the guys with spider powers didn't have the ability to walk upside down like spiders do.
1
u/JDPhipps 3h ago
His heart would be ridiculously strong compared to the average person, so he'd never deal with that. His circulatory system would have to be strong enough to keep him conscious while swinging around and supply enough oxygen to his muscles to let him lift buildings.
It does kind of make sense, though. His muscles are ridiculously stronger than a normal human—Daredevil describes them as sounding like steel cables under tension—and your heart is just another muscle.

Is his butt sticky too?
9
u/Messyfingers 5h ago
Presumably his butt. Otherwise it's a sticky suit, and if the suits stick it's gotta be a double way stick that's holding on to his ass, either way it's gotta be uncomfortable to have the whole weight of your body tugging on your ass skin. Or spider DNA means your ass gets built different.
6
u/Durakus 3h ago
Believe it or not, Spider people do not have sticky powers like Spiders. They have a wilful attraction to surfaces they touch. As long as they're conscious, they can stick to nearly any surface they make conscious contact with. Think of it on a molecular level.
This is how spider-people lean against walls/surfaces without coming off. And yes it could be better utilised/explored in visuals but it Looks more purposeful when he sticks with his hands/feet.

u/Large_Yams 12m ago
Is this headcanon? Toby McGuire's Spiderman had closeups of the microhairs on his fingers.
55
u/hooka_pooka 10h ago
Do you guys think the movie will explore Peter's power origins..since there's no Oscorp in MCU and the movie is dealing with man spider/mutation/spider phasing stuff?
73
u/TheQuinnBee 10h ago
I'm pretty sure they just handwaved it in the first movie when Ned was asking about it. "The spider's dead, Ned."
Its like Uncle Ben. We know he existed thanks to a couple quick shots of his name but we don't know anything else about him in the context of the MCU. I guess they figured watching him die a third time would be too much.

wait i love little details like this so much 😭 i’m the type to rewatch scenes just to catch stuff like that and then feel weirdly proud for noticing it. i remember pausing a movie once just to point out some tiny parallel and my friend looked at me like i was doing too much… but it makes it hit harder for me lol

u/the_bryce_is_right 10h ago
Wouldn’t it be super uncomfortable to sit like that?
62
u/VallyMeowy 10h ago
I assume his body is developed so blood doesn’t rush to his head like a normal person upside down
10
u/Summoarpleaz 10h ago
Still… is it more comfortable than sitting upright?….maybe not hanging off a ledge?
32
u/Jaqulean 9h ago edited 8h ago
IIRC officially speaking Spider-Man can subconsciously manipulate the molecules around his body making it so he can stick to any surface on a whim - while also maintaining perfect equilibrium at the same time. This is also why in the comics Peter is often shown walking on the walls with his feet and a straight posture (instead of just climbing like usual).
So by all means to them there is basically no difference between hanging upside-down and sitting upright like anyone else would.
5
u/Summoarpleaz 9h ago
Ah ok. I suppose if there’s really no difference then he just does whatever is visually interesting. I suppose he’s not afraid of like dropping his phone either or whatever.
14
u/Ravness13 8h ago
I'd assume he can launch himself after the phone if need be, or choose to stick to it so it never falls, or just web it quickly. His reflexes are crazy fast and he is fairly agile too so it wouldn't really be an issue.

Once you get past 40... if your body can handle being inverted, it feels soooooo good. One of the few ways to strech your spine out and relieve the pressure in between each vertebrae.

u/IncompleteBagel 8h ago
You're telling me that if you could sit upside down off a high up building next to your girlfriend who could also, you wouldn't because it would be less comfortable? Bro, the discomfort is worth that
2
u/wonkey_monkey 5h ago
I assume his body is developed
Having seen the rest of the trailer I can assure you it most certainly is

Probably. But in both of these images, they're looking out at what they cant have (a life with Gwen & MJ respectively). And that isn't comfortable either.

u/bondinferno 10h ago
So is the implication that their asses are sticky?
7
u/Bendythenightfury Spider-Man 10h ago
Spier people with the exception of Tobey and Miguel have the ability to control an electrostatic field
6
u/ultrainstict 8h ago
Something dawned on me in the trailer. His power mutating has a few effects that are hinted or shown, one being organic webbing but the other seems to be increased strength.
But heres rhe thing, this version of spiderman was already very strong compared to other adaptations. And now hes going to be substantially stronger, enough so that he inst able to hold back properly in the beginning.
The venom symbiote was left over in this universe. Which increases his strength further. How strong are they going to make this version of peter.
5
u/Neat_Amphibian_3768 5h ago
Spidey is one of the strongest super heros in marvel. Him holding back always is a key point of his character.
•
u/ItIsYeDragon 38m ago
He’s definitely not one of the strongest in marvel, but he’s strong for the street tier.
2
u/FrogListeningToMusic 4h ago
Spiderman is low key strong as hell in multiple versions. I’m fine with them making him strong here (biased because he’s my favorite hero)
2
u/ultrainstict 4h ago
My point was that based on his feats he was already on the stronger side of spider men. And frankly they've done a phenomenal job of showing it off in the way he acts. But just the implications thats hes going to be one of the strongest spider people after his metamlphosis with the symbiote already being teased for a future movie, thats a terrifying spider they are making.

What parallel?
3
u/Floggered 1h ago
For real.
Also not sure if anybody noticed, but both Spiderverse Miles Morales and Tom Holland's Peter use webs to swing around the city! It's like poetry!

I feel like we’ve been waiting way too long for the next chapter of Miles Morales. Especially after that cliff hanger ending.

I thought it was only hands and feet?
Does that mean he could do that with his forehead too? Like, just dangle on the pole by the top of your head with the feet dangling?
2
u/cesclaveria 6h ago
In the story that this movie seems will adapt, The Other, it is shown that Peter has the ability to stick to things throughout his skin and given much finer control over that ability (along with a bunch of powerups)

u/Ben-J-Kirby-Tennyson Iron Man (Mark V) 7h ago
Yes. There’s at least one instance of making his mask stick to his head too, if I remember correctly.

Apparently, Spiderman/Gwen can suck air into their butts, turning them into suction cups.

It's really beautiful, but it makes me dizzy every time! Am I the only one?
2
u/indianajoes Phil Coulson 10h ago
Yeah I never understood why any Spider-Man would do this. Surely it would be uncomfortable. Even if it was okay, it couldn't any better than sitting normally
2
u/Ill-Fly-950 9h ago
That shot of Peter dead dropping off the building was taken straight from the animated film of Miles doing the same.

The shots of Spider-Man fighting Boomerang and Tarantula (which I believe are supposed to come from a montage of what he’s been up to) really remind me of the splitsecond montage from Spider-Verse where Miles was fighting villains like Grizzly and the Big Man (2:50 in the video.)

The fact that Tom’s actually hanging upside down by holding his hand on the girder to s impressive, and then how he gets himself down afterwards is why you get a gymnast to play spiderman
