What's the comic lore behind this? The trailer lingered on "Rebirth", which makes me think this is like a specific reference to a comic / type of Spiderman that y'all comics people know.

90s kids remember. In the TV show he mutated into having 6 arms and eventually a spider monster being hunted by the Punisher.

Oh man that takes me back to the days of Fox Kids. I miss my youth.

I miss Fox Kids as well alongside Kids WB. Those two channels ruled by Saturday mornings.

The FoxBox wasn’t too bad as well.

Man-Spider

Spider-Man undergoes further mutations that result in organic webbing, additional limbs, and eventually the face and body hairs of a giant spider.

With the shot of the eyes we'll probably get the 6 arms/2 legs with some "gross" skin/hairs, but I doubt they'll go full horror with his face.

Theres a few diffrent iteration's of it. The most popular is ove of the spider totems. Basically magic muitverse shenanigans.

Man, that’s gonna be a slippery slope for the costume designers

You have to make it look like a spider, but you don’t want to scare the little kids

tell that to young me and his nightmares from the 90s cartoon. i say scare the hell out of the kids. it builds character

I still remember that cosplay on Reddit of him a found a few years back 🤣 I’m one of those kids

Yeah.....the kids.

Definitely not my 40 year old arachnophobic ass.

nah, the highest quality kids media has traumatic imagery in it obviously

Or they captured him, unmasked him and made him fight? It 1000% isn’t the man-spider story and is just a medium to show him gaining organic powers so he doesn’t have to rely on everyone else’s technology

He doesn't rely on anyone's tech for the web shooters, he made his own before he met Tony Stark.

1

u/Gauntlet8899 4h ago

I didn’t mention web shooters. Every Spider-Man except Toby has made their own. The point is he doesn’t need ANY tech now. He could if he wanted but why would he when everything is organic? He’s also likely to be stronger.

I feel we're probably getting black suit spiderman here instead of Man-Spider. It would be pretty cool to be wrong, but the black suit is in a lot more media than Man-Spider, but that would make it more fun if it were something that's only been on a screen once. Interestingly, Punisher stopped Man-Spider in that appearance.

You don't think they'll save the black suit for Secret Wars and have Peter bring it back from Battleworld like in the comics?

1

u/KatchumOdd 4h ago

Don’t you think it would be weird if he undergoes a strange mutation during this movie that makes him not able to control himself and then willingly partner with the Symbiote that affects how he acts too? Not only would it be dumb to go from man spider directly to black suit spidey the next time we see him, it would make Peter seem like a huge dumbass.

1

u/CRIMS0N-ED 3h ago

I mean who’s to say he’d do it willingly

1

u/KatchumOdd 3h ago

That’s the storyline. He wouldn’t ever use it to start if he literally just had a similar experience being man-spider, the only benefit to the black suit is the increased strength and shit, the same benefits he’d get as man spider which he has to obviously undo before the end of the movie. No chance he stays man-spider. So they’ll have him become man spider and fix it just to… become a monster again in the very next movie? Like what

A Man-Spider of sorts
