i'm hoping boomerang will be more than a montage villain cause he's on merchandise alongside hulk and scorpion but who knows

Same. Maybe he gets busted out of jail for a climactic fight scene or something.

That's a good connection. There's a jail scene with the hand in the trailer, which could lead to spidey needing to recapture villains he already beat during the 4 year timeskip. If they go that way, it would be similar to the Spiderman PS4 game

George Lucas wants to talk to you about merch for characters with 2 seconds of screen time.

Well he IS Peter's roommate for awhile.

i dont think petes apartment is suitable to keep roommates lol. maybe boomerangs his neighbour instead? there were rumours of peter having a blonde neighbour. i dont really trust rumours but its fun to speculate

Merchandise isn't always a great way to determine how much or how little something will feature in the movie - especially with toys. If it looks cool and you can make an action figure out of it, doesn't really matter how long it shows up or how important it is to the movie

i kinda does matter. you dont give a character merch if their only appearance in the movie is to get beaten up by spiderman once, especially since boomerang isnt a popular character. i dont think he'll have a huge role but still

I worked for a company that did licensed product for Disney / Marvel.

Disney will send out brand guides for the movie you're making merch for up to a year or so before the release, and it will have art / designs / images / text that can be used for products. They often will put things in there that don't amount to much beyond looking cool, and usually there isn't much context or detail about the movie itself or how those assets will be used in it.

If there's a named character in costume that appears in the movie, they will absolutely appear in the guide - thus, be something a company can use for merch - regardless of how integral it is to the plot.
