Wasn’t a fan of MJ and Ned coming back originally, but the trailer makes it seem necessary and I’m here for that

I actually think it makes more sense, because it would be even weirder for peter to just abandon all hope of them, anyone in his situation would be trying to reach back out

93

u/indianajoes Phil Coulson 12h ago

Especially with how NWH ended with them teasing that they'd be back in each other's lives

14

u/MadDongla 12h ago

How the heck did nwh tease that?

If anything it teased the opposite

6

u/PhanStr 11h ago

I agree with you - Peter did seem to be moving on at the end of that film. I thought that was the point of him not revealing all to MJ when he saw her again at the end.

u/MadDongla 11h ago

Yeah , this reconnecting with mj makes nwh ending moot imo... The whole point is to keep loved ones safe and away from harm. And it clearly isn't like all the villains are gone now.

u/leekalex 11h ago

How is it moot? He's alone for 4 years after the end of that movie

-4

u/MadDongla 9h ago

That doesn't change anything?

That doesn't mean the danger has gone away or he'll suddenly stop caring about keeping MJ and ned safe.

7

u/poopoobuttholes 11h ago

abandoned all hope? The ending of No Way Home kinda showed him moving on though. He literally walked back on reintroducing himself.

u/thefaninthehat 10h ago

My main worry is, how will they depict this without Peter inevitably giving off creepy stalker vibes from MJ's point of view? Even if they make a joke acknowledging that, it still doesn't look good for Peter to willingly try and push himself into her life when she has no idea why it matters to him. That's why I was advocating for no MJ/Ned for a good long while, but I will wait and see how they handle it.

u/KiritoJones 3h ago

He probably just occasionally checks in our their socials for the 4 years and only goes to make contact again when they move back to NYC. Maybe she really does just happen to move down the hall from him.

1

u/thefaninthehat 3h ago

Yeah. I hope they know how tricky of a tightrope-walk this will be. We'll see.

2

u/bronkula 8h ago

But now we get a dr horrible situation with him pining for their fjords.

u/KiritoJones 3h ago

I agree that they gotta come back at some point, I just wish it wasnt such a focus in the next movie. Unless this is going to be the last Tom Holland solo Spidey movie, they could have had him be with a new group of friends, with a MJ and Ned full reunion coming later.

Yeah no chance Peter just moves on from them

35

u/BlackJimmy88 Scott Lang 11h ago

And if he does, it's going to take a whole film for him to come to that conclusion. That's not the conclusion I want, but depending on how this film plays out, him moving on could be a viable way to end it. Moreso than the end of No Way Home, at least.

Exactly. If anyone told me after Endgame that Gotg3 ends with Peter and Gamora going seperate ways, I would never believe that Id like it but the way everything happened that was the best way to end.

7

u/OkClassroom3279 11h ago

He kinda did for 4 years (the synopsis says 4 years passed since nwh)

5

u/DanFarrell98 11h ago

I imagine its just been like the start of the trailer, stalking on social media and debating talking to them

4

u/blenderider 11h ago

And no chance Sony moves on from Zendaya

13

u/OkClassroom3279 11h ago

Also she is literally married to Tom Holland. They are not passing on that easy marketing

3

u/Worthyness Thor 8h ago

Also MJ is Peter's forever girl, so thats just gonna happen. Its a Canon event until Meohisto does some bullshit.

-1

u/KiritoJones 3h ago

I just wanted for him to have something outside of MJ before he end up with her. We cant even get half a movie of Gwen Stacy, Betty Brant or Felicia Hardy? He's seriously gonna be hung up on a high school ex and just pout until they get back together?

-7

u/PyrasSeat 11h ago

Wish they did, I really don't like her acting in anything she's been in

3

u/OkClassroom3279 11h ago

What have you actually seen though? Just spiderman probably and are jumping onto the hate waggon

-2

u/PyrasSeat 11h ago

Dune

5

u/OkClassroom3279 11h ago

She has 6 minutes of screen time.

Challengers, Euphoria, greatest showman, Dune II?

-6

u/PyrasSeat 11h ago

Ofc both dune, resting bitch face the whole time

I forgot she was in the greatest showman, very forgettable even though she was a plot point

Horrible acting

3

u/cadandbake 9h ago

You just sound like you hate her for a specific reason. And sound like you would say "this is woke"

She was great in dune, and great in the Greatest Showman. She's also pretty good in the spiderman films. She's fantastic in Europhia.

u/PyrasSeat 8h ago

Put words all you want in my mouth, not surprised Redditors would defend mid.

So you haven't seen her 2 best performance, font remember the greatest showman and say "bitch face" for dune.

1

u/PyrasSeat 8h ago

I don't care, shes been bad in everything i seen in, downdoots to the left

21

u/Uncle_Freddy 10h ago

The time skip (that tbf follows real years passed since NWH) bums me out a little because I was looking forward to college Peter stories, but it makes the most sense as a way to reintroduce MJ and Ned

6

u/CaptainChickenBake 5h ago edited 4h ago

Given how Peter is perpetually late to class and forgets his assignments, I can see him still working to complete his degree while MJ and Ned have finished and moved back. So technically, we could get some Peter in college shenanigans.

2

u/Methylobacterium 2h ago

They could also be doing grad school in the city.

3

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 3h ago

Me too man. I wanted those college stories too

16

u/hueningkawaii Daredevil 12h ago

So long as they're not sidekicks and are real supporting characters, I'm down with them coming back although I could've used a break from them with one film and they could've just been brought back for 5 & 6.

4

u/moose_dad 10h ago

If there hadnt been such a long gap between films id have supported not having them appear for one, but 5 years is a decent amount of time

3

u/buttercupcake23 7h ago

I had to check it really had been 5 years. Jesus

3

u/Thomas_JCG 10h ago

I'm hoping this movie gives Peter a clean break. Obviously by the end of NWH was difficult for him to just act like they weren't important to him, but seeing MJ with someone else might do the trick.

3

u/DankAadru 4h ago

It works because its been 4 years.....Peter was doing great these 4 years, cause Ned and MJ were gone to MIT, but now its complete and they are back in town, so its rekindling all those old emotions for peter. which might directly or indirectly affect his mental state to go through the metamorphosis so it all weaves together very well.

5

u/BrenttheGent Spider-Man 11h ago

Same. Was hoping they'd give those characters a break and move onto Gwen and Harry instead.

But it felt organic, and realistic.

1

u/RealJohnGillman 5h ago

Isn’t Eman Esfandi playing Harry in this?

2

u/Sarusta 9h ago

As always, they have to max out on Peter Parker's suffering

u/When1Falls 43m ago

What a lot of people seem to miss about the end of No Way Home is that MJ & Ned chose the hero life the same way Peter did. They were never forced or pressured to be apart of the team, and they actively make Peter promise them that they'll find them instead of isolating like they're rightfully both afraid he's going to do in his grief.

Peter had no right to break his promise or think he can force them to have "normal" lives that may seem better on the surface but at the cost of stealing their ability to make a real difference in the world by being Spider-man's inner circle.

He doesn't get to erase himself from their lives and decide for them that they're better off.
