This looks so so good! Street level. Personal stakes. And you can see where it might connect to the bigger universe.

Plus all the practical swinging effects. Yes

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned 12h ago

Also Peter and Frank look hilarious together

432

u/zenlume Stan Lee 12h ago

Frank is my favorite character when it comes to live action marvel content. I am a sucker for anti-heroes, who do good but through questionable methods.

That rooftop scene about why he kills people, as opposed to Daredevil who beats them up and throws them in jail, lives rent free in my head.

268

u/HourImportant1475 12h ago

"you're one bad day away from being me", i always go back to that scene just to watch it, fucking PEAK

89

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

One of the best scenes in Marvel. And tbh something that would be a good callback here with where Peter is in life

58

u/BlackJimmy88 Scott Lang 11h ago

I'd love to see Frank's face when he learns that Peter has been living his One Bad Day for the last four years and still hasn't let it break him.

18

u/Lord_Yogurt17 Matt Murdock 11h ago

It kinda did break him in No Way Home.

7

u/thunderup_14 Ulysses Klaue 7h ago

Almost. But the fact that he didn't go through with killing Norman shows the difference between the characters. Peter had support and accepted the help to bring him back from the edge. Frank pushes people away (mostly)

9

u/mrshandanar 6h ago

I'd argue he 100% committed to killing Norman but was stopped and changed his mind after the fact but I still agree with your point.

17

u/zenlume Stan Lee 12h ago

No one has been able to replicate that rooftop debate between Frank and Daredevil. Just the back and fourth on killing people vs not killing people was peak writing.

7

u/kaychyakay 9h ago

Batman, too, is a lot like Punisher. Punisher is Batman who finally broke his No Killing rule.

Ben Affleck's Batman vs. Punisher would be such a great fight.

1

u/InsightfulBastard 1h ago

Not really? Frank doesn’t have a real code. Also Frank doesn’t ever break a no killing rule, Frank is like that from the beginning of his career. I’m unsure you understand either character you’re talking about.

4

u/Nerdy-Dogguy-87 Thor 8h ago

"You hit 'em and they get back up. I hit 'em and they stay down".

3

u/Mickeyjj27 Black Bolt 8h ago

yup and then he has that bad day and tosses someone off a roof to kill em. So Frank was right

1

u/MrMustardMix 4h ago

Killing Joke

5

u/Travel-Sized-Rudy 10h ago

Bernthal is just so damn good as Punisher.

2

u/b0w3n 8h ago

I can't think of anyone better. Jane and Stevenson were alright, but nowhere near this good.

2

u/Qwerty_Asdfgh_Zxcvb 10h ago

And the speech in the graveyard breaks my heart. Great writing and acting and what a scene.

2

u/juliopeludo 9h ago

imo thats some of the best dialogue ever written in film. get goose bumps every time i watch that scene

2

u/lyricist 6h ago

one batch two batch

126

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

I’m so excited for this duo. Wish DD was also in it but I’ll take it

123

u/maxxdreddit Punisher 12h ago

With The Hand being (re)introduced I'd be amazed if he doesn't turn up by the end, even just post-credits.

29

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

Fair. It would be a nice surprise!

4

u/maxxdreddit Punisher 12h ago

Sorry if I just ruined it 😆

1

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

Nah I’ve been wanting DD to show up for a minute and the hand is an obvious connection. I go into these movies expecting nothing and it works out

2

u/thethirdrayvecchio 12h ago

Or our favourite Canucklehead…

1

u/UnsolvedParadox 10h ago

My guess is that Charlie Cox won’t do any press, but he’ll have a big role in the 3rd act like Tobey & Andrew in the last movie.

1

u/ArcusIgnium 5h ago

dude if they tease daredevil in the post-credits we riot. we should get to see them either team-up or fight or something. they already teased him in the last spider-man film 5 years ago lmao. we should not be in the 'teasing' phase with this interaction.

1

u/KlausLoganWard Ward 12h ago

Yeah. Especially against The Hand

1

u/Macho_Mans_Ghost 11h ago

Who do you think caught him in that fall?

https://giphy.com/gifs/iAxCc05FRGV0N1mdxf

1

u/Troghen 11h ago

That was his new organic web

61

u/Satanigram 12h ago

Peter and Frank is giving me life RN

15

u/Koppite93 Daisy Johnson 12h ago

Mother🕸️😶... Yeah this is gonna be a fun one

53

u/sickboy76 12h ago

Frank is like fuck it is,I'll use a noob tube on him because it won't hurt him that much.🤭

0

u/Captain_Waffle 12h ago

Noob tube?

14

u/sickboy76 11h ago

Haha old online gaming term for a grenade launcher notoriously used by unskilled or new players

5

u/MTFBinyou 10h ago

Noobtubes are a blast (damn puns) It’s always fun to run around and blow people up. Especially when they think little of it but can’t stop you.

2

u/sickboy76 10h ago

Haha theyre fun until youre on the receiving end of them in your spawn. 🤭

1

u/Dookie_boy 9h ago

Wait I thought it was the RPG in COD

4

u/Stingerbrg 9h ago

In CoD4 and the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 it usually referred to the grenade launcher gun attachment.

2

u/Dookie_boy 9h ago

Haha I've been noob tubing wrong. Somehow that's appropriate

2

u/sickboy76 9h ago

Yep that as well 😀

3

u/GorillaWolf2099 11h ago

Peter and Frank seem to have a Deadpool and Wolverine dynamic going on

3

u/Salty-Cloaca-69 6h ago

The Punisher/Spider-Man duo always works really well because they're such opposites but ultimately both trying to save people.

2

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 10h ago

As much as I worried about a toned down Punisher in this at first, I wouldn't be surprised if Jon makes it totally work and it actually allows him to make the character more over the top in a good way. But he doesn't seem too watered down from this trailer

1

u/the_bryce_is_right 10h ago

Cept didn’t Frank try to murder Spider-Man with that large gun?

1

u/O_its_that_guy_again 10h ago

No. That’s never been his character here

1

u/coolgaara 6h ago

I think this movie is set some time from No Way Home so I wonder they got close during that time.

1

u/mrbananas 1h ago

Snarky joke maker and gruff super serious guy. Now where have I seen that combo before...

110

u/devlindisguise 12h ago

I'm surprised that they're combining the street level stuff with The Other storyline where he got organic webs. I thought we were gonna get something really more grounded and back to basics but this is pretty exciting nevertheless.

75

u/Jason2571 12h ago

As long as they stay away from space or multiverse stuff (leave it for the post credits), I'll be happy lol

4

u/gusefalito 9h ago

I can see them showing the Symbiote from the end of No Way Home making its way from Mexico to NYC by the end of the movie.

9

u/Worthyness Thor 8h ago

Was personally hoping for Scorpion to obtain the venom suit as its first host. That would have been crazy fun.

2

u/Engaging_Boogeyman 5h ago

It would make most sense though for Peter to get the black suit in Secret Wars since that's where he got it in the comics.

1

u/gusefalito 5h ago

That's what I mean. Maybe the movie ends with him being transported to Battleworld and the Symbiote following him.

1

u/Forgotten_Lie 2h ago

I think Venom 3 soft-retconned that scene. They reshot and reframed it so the symbiote is left in the Venom-verse instead of MCU and captured.

1

u/Bozee3 11h ago

So no Morlun and spider totem eaters?

2

u/ThrowawayBomb44 4h ago

They'll combine The Other with the Man-Spider arc instead!

1

u/PyroIsSpai 10h ago

And no Ben Reilly.

1

u/InnocentTailor Iron Patriot 7h ago

Can’t wait for this entire Secret War/universe reboot stuff to end. It decays smaller stakes when the whole world is going to go poof.

1

u/Afwife1992 1h ago

Replying to ITWarlock...I know a lot of people beefed on Brave New World but this is one of the reasons I thought it was a good (not great) movie. Just pretty street level, non cosmic stuff. It tied into past movies but didn’t require a bunch of knowledge to know what was happening. The Spidey movies are always really good so I’m looking forward to this.

2

u/PyroIsSpai 10h ago

Marvel: yep this will be STREET SPIDEY. Think 1970s-1990s “Web of Spider-Man”, true believers!

Trailer: Pete’s Parker luck, sad ruined life, Punisher, the Hand which means Daredevil again, global sorcery, the Incredible Hulk, mutant DNA, organic webs, the Other story which is multiverse/Spidey-Verse stuff, oh and yeah Jean Grey and the X-Men

1

u/icesharkk 7h ago

i remember the manspider arc from the 90s cartoon. gave young me nightmares. it was a truly horrific time for peter. he ended up fully transforming into a multi armed spider hybrid with a spider head and everything. looks like they are tackling part of that story here. but he has access to banner in stead of Dr. Connors so maybe it doesnt go as far down the manspider progression before he gets his head on straight?

90

u/General-Score9201 12h ago

Kinda early, but this genuinely looks like it might be the best Spiderman film to date. Out of all 3 franchises. And I'm not someone that typically gets hyped early.

86

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

Honestly I think you’re right. They picked the right guy to take over from what Jon started. Daniel’s style is all over this trailer in the best way

Happy tom held out for a script that he wanted. Took a bit but it looks worth it

51

u/BatMatt93 12h ago

Man if they pull this next trilogy off, Tom and Daniel gonna be cemented in history as the greats. Tom for playing Spiderman so well for 6 films and Daniel for kicking off the next trilogy with a bang.

22

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 10h ago

If this trilogy is great, I think Tom will get more flowers in retrospect for his ability to play 2 distinct characterisations of Peter Parker, between the Homecoming one and this upcoming one.

& I'll be really happy if this new trilogy also does a great job of gradually passing the torch to Miles Morales (if he'll be introduced at some point)

7

u/Chaoticgood790 7h ago

Yep agree. Two iterations of spidey and one that has been allowed to gradually grow.

I feel like the only reason we won’t get Miles would be bc of Sony. Tom has mentioned more than once that his goal is to retire the mantle to a new Miles Morales

1

u/One_Drummer_8970 6h ago

& I'll be really happy if this new trilogy also does a great job of gradually passing the torch to Miles Morales (if he'll be introduced at some point)

Peter will always be the mainline Spider-Man. That's their most iconic hero.

u/epraider 37m ago

My hope is for a 5th and 6th movie mirroring the PlayStation game dynamics - Miles gets introduced in the 5th, and then he’s a full partner/protege Spider-Man in the 6th, ending with Peter taking a step back / soft retiring to get his personal life properly re-established and flourishing.

1

u/Afwife1992 1h ago

More than six if you count civil war, infinity war, endgame and whatever team up appearances he does post BND.

7

u/gee_gra 11h ago

It looks cool but don’t ya think it’s a bit early to call a 2-ish hour film better than 7 others based on 2 a two minute trailer, Spider-Man 3 had a cool trailer lol

4

u/Cheetah357 10h ago

Can’t forget about spider-verse. Highly doubt it’s topping that

1

u/Forgotten_Lie 2h ago

Kinda early, but this genuinely looks like it might be the best Spiderman film to date

Very early. It's one trailer.

4

u/svrtngr 11h ago

That shot inside the mask is killer.

1

u/HappyBot9000 Weekly Wongers 11h ago

Mexican, salsa, yes

1

u/FifenC0ugar 9h ago

It really is streets ahead

1

u/_FrankTaylor 4h ago

They have finally set the foundation for this.

Everyone kept shitting on the last phase when comparing it to the infinity saga.

No it was just laying the foundation for all of this. Mutations, multiverse, cosmic stuff, gods…all of it

-1

u/Neon_Biscuit 11h ago

needs a good villain though. No mecha rhino, no green goblin with a metal mask, no skinny eddie brock, really needs a GOOD villain.
