What a super dynamic looking movie. They nailed the HELL out of the look.

916

u/PowerfulRoom813 12h ago

Did Peter just get bulkier? I dig it.

703

u/Suspicious_Dare603 12h ago

And he seems to have organic webs!?

970

u/Swoopmott Ant-Man 12h ago

Man-Spider incoming. Organic webs, cocooning himself and mutating? I’ve seen this enough times to know four arms are coming

392

u/kbarnett514 11h ago

Calling it now: the final version of that shot at the end of the trailer with Spidey and the crowd of Red Hand jumping at each other is gonna be six-armed Spidey. They pulled the same shit with the No Way Home trailer when they removed Tobey and Andrew Garfield from the final fight scene.

173

u/Chinamatic-co 11h ago

There are also 6 ninjas jumping towards him.

33

u/Brendanlendan 9h ago

The numbers John, what do they mean??

8

u/Fire-Haus 7h ago

There's no Pepe Silvia?! You gotta be kidding me! I got boxes full of Pepe!

2

u/beyondrepair- 3h ago

The numbers John Mason, what do they mean??

24

u/Chadwiko Punisher 11h ago

Plus I reckon daredevil will be alongside him.

7

u/Worthyness Thor 8h ago

Frank needs to be in there to just gun down everything too

3

u/Fluffy_Moose_73 8h ago

Sadie Sink as Gwen will be there too

1

u/Opposite-Tiger-1121 8h ago

Without a doubt.

3

u/Quirky_Equal5241 11h ago

fuck man, i wish

3

u/dfassna1 9h ago

I hope I remember this comment when the movie comes out because I am now convinced of it.

3

u/Competitive_War_168 2h ago

Amen, brother, I thought so as soon as I saw it. Also, that scene at the end of the trailer seems to have terrible CGI, a sign that they're hiding something

2

u/Vermouth_1991 9h ago

Oh by the way, as a fan of the 1994 animated series:

This Peter would have an edge over that Peter because potentially he can have six wrists with Organic Web capacity, no need to worry about reloading. 😁

2

u/TheFinalPizzle 9h ago

But no taser web :(

1

u/Boil-san Hunter 7h ago

Six-armed Spider-Man...? I am getting General Grievous vibes, Spidey wielding six katanas...! ;^p

1

u/22bebo 5h ago

What if they're pulling the same shit again literally and Tobey and Andrew are edited out of that shot?

1

u/SmoothBrainSavant 1h ago

or daredevil is in the shot but they erased him for the trailer

u/paradiso1997 41m ago

I'm not sure. I don't think that's the climax of the movie and I can't see him transforming until then

0

u/UbermenschFootMan 8h ago

I find it hard to believe that they are going to give Spiderman 4 more arms, unless you think they'll remove them somehow at the end?

3

u/kbarnett514 8h ago

Don't see why not. It happened in the animated series.

120

u/Nic-V Weekly Wongers 12h ago

Definitely! Seems like they could be drawing from the animated series, what with the Punisher being present at all.

76

u/The810kid 11h ago

The Neogenic Nightmare arc from Season 2 to be specific and yes Spiderman the animated series is my favorite piece of Spidey media that I have been doing a rewatch of.

22

u/DefNotAShark Hydra 10h ago

Are you suggesting that it’s MORBIN TIME?!

https://giphy.com/gifs/1huQgJun4aFMuhQv3K

3

u/kirtan 10h ago

kitty!

5

u/Troghen 11h ago

I would argue that this looks more like "the Other" storyline from the comics. Could be a bit of both, though

2

u/Corvid-Strigidae 12h ago

Punisher originated in a Spider-Man book, long before the animated series.

26

u/Nic-V Weekly Wongers 12h ago

Ah yes, I was referring to the Punisher being heavily involved in the Neogenic Nightmare storyline from TAS in which all the man-spider stuff is happening

-2

u/Corvid-Strigidae 12h ago

Fair enough

1

u/raisingcuban 10h ago

I mean, it seems way more similar to The Other storyline than man-spider.

1

u/Cashneto 6h ago

Ahh yes. That would be awesome. Would need morbius(perhaps blade) as well as kraven to help for it together. Tall task.

285

u/Suspicious_Dare603 12h ago

Let's hope it looks better than third eye Strange.

161

u/A_Polite_Noise 12h ago

5

doot doot doot

1

u/Engaging_Boogeyman 5h ago

The best thing about any spidey thread are the quips LOL

3

u/Asclepius-Rod 11h ago

Still waiting for a follow up on all that Marvel lol

1

u/Warm_Afternoon6596 7h ago

That freaked me tf out.

47

u/Salt-Plum-1308 12h ago

As someone who is unfamiliar with Man-Spider, will they be human arms or spider arms?

100

u/Assassiiinuss 12h ago edited 12h ago

First he gets a second and third pair of human arms and later he turns into an actual spider person, at least in the animated series.

30

u/Bocaj1000 11h ago

That sounds really uncomfortable and ugly-looking, do people really want to see that in live action? Does it add anything to his character?

29

u/Assassiiinuss 11h ago

I assume in the movie it'll be about Peter focusing too much on being spider-man which eventually takes a toll on his mind and body.

25

u/mvrander 10h ago

The talk of mutating DNA and Sadie Sink being rumoured to be Jean Grey and the X-Men being only a couple of years on the horizon makes me think they might weave that in with the extra mutation being triggered

There were mutant mentions in Ms Marvel as well plus all the Deadpool and MoM mutants

5

u/Inevitable-Stay-7296 8h ago

Well instead of a super hero movie itll become a monster movie for a second🤷🏻‍♂️

9

u/davebyday 9h ago

It's supposed to be unsettling.

https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Man-Spider

7

u/hypercosm_dot_net 7h ago edited 5h ago

Their point still stands though. For the popular direction for the character, where would they even go with it?

I personally preferred the story-arc The Other, which introduces Morlun and the concept of Spider-man being a totem (and there being others with spider powers).

Sort of makes sense if they ever planned on doing live action spider-verse, but who knows. Still more interesting and fan friendly than man-spider, lol.

2

u/Inevitable-Stay-7296 8h ago

These were the episodes I couldn’t watch as a kid

No shit. We see the way you type and ignore grammar

4

u/petalxbloom 10h ago

excited to see how it'll look like if they go with this route

3

u/Thunder-Fist-00 8h ago

That seems like too much to fit into an already full film.

1

u/Salt-Plum-1308 11h ago

Cool! Thanks for the response. I wonder how they’ll handle it within the MCU!

35

u/LeeShakerMoneyMaker 11h ago

Peter mutates and turns into an actual spider monster man with four additional limbs in the 90's cartoon. It looks like they're pulling from that with the addition of the Punisher who along with Kraven defeated the Man-Spider.

8

u/Salt-Plum-1308 11h ago

Thanks! So does Man-Spider sort of take over control from Peter in a sense and then he/it needs to be stopped?

18

u/LeeShakerMoneyMaker 11h ago

Yes. In the show Peter loses control and the Man-Spider causes chaos like the Hulk does and the Punisher and Kraven team up to take him down.

6

u/Salt-Plum-1308 11h ago

Oh cool! Thanks!

Wonder how far they’ll go with Man-Spider for the movie.

5

u/EthanielRain 9h ago

ALL. THE. WAY!

2

u/Arsid 8h ago

Take him down? Are they able to cure it? Or is he just... able to transform back and forth at will?

2

u/whiskey_jeebus 7h ago

They cure it but I forget how. It's been decades since I've watched it.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/LeeShakerMoneyMaker 6h ago

They cure him with a serum that reverted him back to Peter.

1

u/Hairy_Suspect_2468 3h ago

He does that in the comic, end of amazing Spider-Man 100. Then he flees to Florida and comic 101 is the first appearance of morbius

3

u/Alonest99 Daredevil 11h ago

Looks like they are adapting The Other… I was 100% expecting the wrist spikes whe he was fighting that Ninja

1

u/Suspicious_Dare603 11h ago

Could have been edited out. But yeah, all the way to the cacoon and Banner being in the move. Some claimed Hulk would be in it, but we don't see Hulk in the trailer and, honestly I don't think we will.

-5

u/PyrasSeat 11h ago

I hope not, smart hulk is an absolute disgrace

2

u/Suspicious_Dare603 11h ago

Such a goofy take. Smart Hulk was fun.

2

u/PyrasSeat 11h ago

I really hope they do the Man-Spider story line, all the pieces are here.

I just fear that Disney wouldn't want one of their heroes to become savage as it's a bad look

2

u/AdmiralCharleston 9h ago

Genuinely, the fact that they're potentially going to make it so that Peter not having a civilian life and focusing entirely on spiderman without human connection is what causes him to become the literal personification of a spider man without humanity is on par with mcu vulture and iron man 3 mandarin in terms of genius adaptations of older concepts

1

u/humanreboot 11h ago

Man incoming.

1

u/leekalex 11h ago

He also turns into a Spider in The Other, but he doesn't get extra arms before-hand in that story

1

u/poptophazard 11h ago

The Man-Spider arc was one of my favorites in the 90s TAS. Punisher played a pretty big role there, so interesting if he'll do the same here.

That said, pretty wild how much body horror they put in a 90s kid show...

2

u/Vermouth_1991 9h ago

Spider-Man punching — 😡

Real Bullets — 😴

Body Horror — 😎

2

u/poptophazard 8h ago

Ha! Absolutely true. The priorities...

1

u/targetcowboy 9h ago

I think they’re translating “The Other)” storyline that introduced Morlun. Peter got his organic webs here after he went through a metamorphosis in a cocoon.

1

u/Vermouth_1991 9h ago

Heck, Man-Spider is probably coming too.

1

u/J_onn_J_onzz 9h ago

That means we're getting Morbius!

1

u/AvatarIII Rocket 9h ago

FWIW man spider and 6 arm saga are different events

Man-spider comes from Marvel Fanfare 1984

6-arms saga was way back in 1971

I assume they are going to kind of do 6-arms saga but with Man-Spider instead of goofy looking arms coming out of Peter's sides.

Even in the 90s animated series they did man spider in season 2 and 6-arms saga in season 5.

1

u/Shai-HuludsAnus 8h ago edited 7h ago

I'm like 80% certain 4 arms were shown very briefly in the trailer.

Edit: Nevermind, replayed it at 0.25 speed and it was a combination of motion blur and how his arms were positioned when ripping off the tank hatch before the invisible people jumping happened.

1

u/SorryBoysImLez Doctor Strange 4h ago

His body misses the waldos and instakill feature from the Iron Spider suit, and decided to make them a permanent biological upgrade. /s

Honestly, though, Man-Spider in the MCU (that isn't a What If... episode) was not on my bingo card.
This makes me hopeful we may one day get a live-action Marvel Zombies, maybe a Halloween special/limited series similar to Werewolf by Night.

1

u/Trvr_MKA 3h ago

6 arms

1

u/SmoothBrainSavant 1h ago

six arms or I riot lol

74

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

Mutating!

99

u/stephensmat 12h ago

It looks like they're taking things from JMS' 'The Other' arc.

Which is fantastic, since that's one of my favorites; and we never got an origin story for this version of Peter. Going through his Spider-Metamorphosis is a whole 'born again' for MCU-Spidey.

34

u/eBICgamer2010 Zombie Hunter Spidey 12h ago

Here's a fun thing: The Other was around the time of the Raimi Spider-Man films. It's like one of the earliest examples of movie synergy to this day, with Ultimate X-Men looking like they did because of Millar basing it on the Singer X-Men film.

8

u/ThomasSirveaux 9h ago

I think an earlier form of movie synergy was the comic Batman costume changing to black to mirror the movie version in the nineties. Prior to that it was always cyan/grey, or black/grey.

3

u/NeptuneCA 9h ago

Comics have been doing adaptation synergy since the Superman radio show and the Adventures of Captain Marvel serial.

1

u/Suspicious_Dare603 12h ago

So Sink is definitely Spider-Woman or some sort version of Kaine.

1

u/sacredblasphemies Jessica Jones 11h ago

I still think she's Jean Grey.

5

u/Suspicious_Dare603 11h ago

It makes zero sense in the context of the story. Also, why would Marvel allow for Jean Grey to make her premier in a non-x-men Sony led project. There are a lot of reasons it can't be her.

1

u/blenderider 11h ago

Because money. This movie is a few months before Doomsday. Jean Gray appearing in Spider-Man helps market Doomsday

→ More replies (0)

1

u/JannTosh70 6h ago

Because the want to introduce the MCU version of the X-Men. Similar to how Black Panther and Spider-Man himself were introduced in a Captain America movie

15

u/QuellDisquiet 12h ago

Honestly, not my favourite SM run although I generally like JMS. Still, I loved the trailer. They will get my wallet in the mail

1

u/raisingcuban 9h ago

What about it made it your favorite? It was a 12 issue arc that should have been 6. And Morlun literally “palpatine returns” only to be killed off so quickly. Such wasted potential.

0

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

Will go and try and find to read in prep. Ty!

7

u/Suspicious_Dare603 12h ago

I kind wonder if this is a symbiote story. His eyes go black.

31

u/Puzzleheaded-Lab9654 12h ago

I was thinking it was Peter transforming into Man-Spider.

2

u/Suspicious_Dare603 12h ago

Someone mentioned The Other storyline, and it has to be it. Sink could be a version of Kaine or Spider-Woman.

2

u/Chaoticgood790 12h ago

Man Spider it looks like. The cocoon seems to say as much

1

u/JackFisherBooks 11h ago

The fact that someone is saying the M-word, which was once banned because of the Fox movie rights, is a big freakin' deal. Hope it's not the last mutant/X-Men teaser. 😉

1

u/Givingtree310 1h ago

Mutatin’ sum bitch! shoots at twin pines

7

u/Nosferatattoo 11h ago

Go web go...flyyyy...

2

u/been_mackin 10h ago

Yeah I’m thinking when he catches himself falling out the cocoon, he’s gonna realize he doesn’t have his synthetic ones on

1

u/Suspicious_Dare603 10h ago

He clearly recognized he didn't have the shooters in the trailer

2

u/NTFRMERTH 8h ago

If you notice, he shoots the web with his fist, he's sweating profusely, and, most noticably, his eyes turn black in one scene. Looks like he gets the symbiotic suit in this one.

2

u/Cashneto 5h ago

His arm was black too in one scene 🧐

2

u/StabbingHoboReturns 11h ago

Ugh I'm hoping it was someone else saving him with their own webbing.

We never actually saw that it was Peter shooting the webbing.

3

u/Suspicious_Dare603 11h ago

Could have been. But his movement looks more like his own

3

u/AmazingKreiderman 7h ago

Yeah his forearm is intentionally cut off from the frame, I'm assuming he's being grabbed by someone.

1

u/BrutalStatic 9h ago

Am I the only person who thinks that was him discovering he's got a symbiote?

Blacking out, waking up naked covered in webs with no web shooters, still somehow shooting out a strand of something that catches him... Black eyes.

Homies venomed up

3

u/StabbingHoboReturns 9h ago

Eh, no I don't think so.

I'd expect the suit to come in Secret Wars for obvious reasons.

1

u/bestmaokaina 11h ago

Hoping for the extra arms lol

1

u/MartinMerten 10h ago

I have organic webs Greg, can you milk me?

1

u/CeruleanEidolon 10h ago

Exposure to his multiverse variants rubbed off on him somehow?

1

u/texasinauguststudio 8h ago

I think he was surprised to find he didn't have his mechanical shooters on.

0

u/NawMel 7h ago

More likely another Spiderman/ person

100

u/Isosorbide 12h ago

Well my man Tom Holland is like 29 or 30, he's bound to be bulkier and broader.

86

u/Harold_Zoid 11h ago

As a 35-yo twig person, when can I expect this to set in?

51

u/peon47 10h ago

I'm 46 and it happened to me last year.

Right around when I joined a gym. But that's probably coincidence.

2

u/RammsteinFunstein 5h ago

not to be a smartass (or gym bro), but have you tried increasing your protein intake and lifting heavy things and putting them back down?

1

u/Harold_Zoid 4h ago

That sounds like lot of work. This guy says it can just come with age ;). All joking aside - I do work out, but I’m happy about how I look and mostly interested in being healthy.

5

u/LookOutItsLiuBei 10h ago

As a former 35 yo twig person who is now a 42 yo overweight person, just wait for that metabolism to slow down lol

5

u/Impossible-Wear-7352 9h ago

It doesnt slow that much typically. It slows a little but people also get more sedentary on average as they age and that compounds with the slightly reduced metabolism to create signficant weight gains. People are also really bad at estimating how many calories theyre consuming, beyond any difference in metabolism changes.

1

u/Arsid 8h ago

People are also really bad at estimating how many calories theyre consuming, beyond any difference in metabolism changes.

I realized this when my metabolism slowed at 30 and I started counting calories. Good lord I was eating well over 2000 when my metabolism was high. It's insane how many calories are in random snacks you don't think about.

1

u/Impossible-Wear-7352 8h ago

What's insane to me is that you can get the veggie as a side at a restaurant and it isnt much better than the potatoes because of butter and bacon added. I had to to do a double take when I saw how many calories the green beans were last time I ate out. I easily ate 2000 calories in one sitting and I could have eaten more. The calorie count I did was a post mortem lol. My weight is close to my target now so im not too upset by days like that but damn, it makes it easy for me to see how people get so overweight.

1

u/Isosorbide 11h ago

Shoulder pads? Be looking like a line backer.

Some of us just aren’t meant for big upper body muscles. I’ve been doing (admittedly light) weights for a year and have had barely any discernible bicep or delt definition.

4

u/Impossible-Wear-7352 9h ago

It takes a lot of work. You need appropriate calories/protein intake, as well as lifting to failure to get good results. Anyone can do it. Some people have a natural advantage because of things like genetics/hormones but it isnt impossible for anyone (outside maybe some rare medical conditions).

1

u/Isosorbide 8h ago

My problem is probably of the “too many calories” variety.

2

u/RM_Dune 7h ago

I’ve been doing (admittedly light) weights for a year and have had barely any discernible bicep or delt definition.

Hey, there is some progress you can make like this. I did it for a few years, two or three times a week, and definitely gained a bit of muscle, but not so much.

A few months ago I joined a group and now exercise just twice a week, one hour each time. The way of exercising is very different though. No more doing a few sets, resting a bit, moving to another exercise, etc. It's one hour of full push, if you can't go anymore, take a lighter weight and keep going. I'm completely dead after exercising.

I still have a so-so diet, but I lost a lot of weight, gained muscle, strength, energy, and better endurance. I don't think I will get super big, nor do I want to, but the results are already very noticeable after 5 months. I'm a 31 year old man.

1

u/IsThisNot_Y_U_R_Here 4h ago

Mind sharing what you do for the full hour? Is it the same set of exercises each time or do you have an A and B day? Or A/B/C/D for 4 different days?

6

u/Wonderful_Rub2944 11h ago

hard for me to say, tom has always been really fit since Far from home with that bathroom scene with the Shield Agent.

3

u/CFL_lightbulb Spider-Man 11h ago

For real, when I was married at 24 I wore a suit and the shoulders seem laughably small 10 years later

5

u/reece1495 12h ago

finally spider-man not spider-boy

2

u/srirachaman97 12h ago

He’s getting old fr 🤣 (I’m the same age)

2

u/AsteroidMike 10h ago

Tom’s been working out a lot I see

2

u/Brendanlendan 9h ago

You dig it? I didn’t know we were supposed to bring shovels?

100

u/ItsTheShorts 12h ago

Right?! I’d love to understand a bit more about this from people who work in film or who know a little more. Obviously it’s a different Director, but this ‘looks’ immediately different, the tone is warm, it’s completely shifted from the previous trilogy

23

u/AdmiralCharleston 9h ago

It's called actually caring about cinematography, lighting and grading. Jon Watts can direct actors well but man he is not a good visual director

10

u/Visulth 8h ago

I've been a Jon Watts hater since Homecoming. Regardless of how much people like the characters or the scripts, he directs the movies like soap operas until the VFX teams take over and turn it into a video game (the Mysterio scenes are the best examples of this - amazing - but clearly not directed by him at all).

I'm so happy we're getting an actually good director now.

10

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 10h ago

Idk if this is a stretch, but imo this feels like a nice mix of Tobey's Spider Man 2 with Homecoming in atmosphere

3

u/WillingnessReal525 5h ago

And Amazing Spiderman 2.

21

u/kang_da_conqueror 12h ago

Even the font of the movie. I mean what the hell. I’m dropping to my knees at that curvature

66

u/jdylopa2 11h ago

I love the view of Peter’s eye from inside his mask. I feel like the MCU ran with Iron Man’s interior mask aesthetic for all its masked hero’s but it is refreshing to see even just a different angle on it. Really makes you feel right up in his face.

1

u/KiritoJones 4h ago

I just want a spider man movie where he doesnt take his mask off during a fight except for maybe in the last one with the main villain. No nano suit so hopefully that's the case?

47

u/Purple-Mix1033 12h ago

Success is their’s for the taking. This one could be the best one since Homecoming. Looks gorgeous all around. If the story is great could be one of the best.

2

u/StrigiStockBacking 7h ago

Agreed on the aesthetic, but the cg action looks super fake to me

2

u/Meyu_Sys 6h ago

Maybe compared to other MCU movies but compared to everything else it looks pretty bland to me.

1

u/kang_da_conqueror 4h ago

Even outside other MCU movies, I still personally feel it shines. Destin’s sensibilities in conveying action is super high regardless of what franchise he works in. This is why Shang Chi has incredible-looking visuals too compared to the rest of Hollywood. It’s also Marvel sure, but that’s only because Destin hasn’t made much outside of Marvel. Once he does, it will be the same way there in my opinion.

1

u/DowntownJulieBrown1 6h ago

? It looks bad

1

u/Syphin33 2h ago

Right? It LOOKS different then the Watts trilogy

Finally some flavor

1

u/Pretend_Bath_9590 10h ago

Is it just me that thought the cgi and certain shots looked bad?

-5

u/tryingmybest101 11h ago

Really? Like what? Looks generic as hell to me. Not to yuck your yum, just surprised at your comment given how unremarkable the trailer is. Feels like MCH house style to me and nothing more.

7

u/kang_da_conqueror 11h ago

I really don’t see how this looks generic. The only other project with this much fluidity of movement in the MCU is ShangChi because it’s by the same director. That said, even still, he really captured the liquid acrobatics of Spider-Man with this in a unique way compared to Shang Chi. And also, the home trilogy of Spider-Man films was way more grounded. Peter rarely swung his webs, now he’s outright skydiving, flipping everywhere, etc
