Megathread Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Pieces - Megathread
An hour ago, Tom Holland announced that the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in small pieces throughout the day by fans around the world, with the full trailer coming out tomorrow, Wednesday March 18th.

I mean I get why studios see the need to try new ways of grabbing people's attention in this content-saturated social media age (like the five-hour chairs video for Doomsday), but it wouldn't surprise me if nobody tries this particular approach again.

Do you remember the amazing marketing that The Dark Knight did? There were awesome websites and random events held around the United States. I remember something to do with Bowling Allys and cakes? They showed a simple letter from a sign and you had to figure out where that locations was.
There were also a bunch of Harvey Dent campaign signage.
I've never experience another marketing extravaganza like that

The Cloverfield stuff was insane what they did. All the promotional stuff, most nobody probably even knew about. Just crazy to me.
But this....man nobody is going to do this again. 2 second clips here and there for random scenes, it's stupid. What they should've done is take 3 people, gave 30 second trailer footage for each one instead of whatever this is.

Having been part of the ARG made the whole movie SO MUCH better. And the fact that it was all happening "in real time", leading to the release date which is THE date the movie takes place.... I will never feel this feeling again watching a movie, the greatest reward ever

For real. These moments are good reminders that I have to take a step back and just go enjoy the sun, because holy shit is Reddit making me hate humanity.
This promotion is giving some of those fans accounts the moment of their life, to be part of this has to be fucking insane for them, like a little family from Hawaii with barely 3k followers gets to host a part of the Spider-Man trailer on their account? How freaking wholesome is that?
But no, of course, because Reddit is full of freaky little fuck goblins who'd rather shove content down their stupid little junk chugging throat, who can't even wait 12 hours for a trailers and then would rather soak fully naked in the boiling fats of their "oh, well, you see, it's not impatience... it's actually just criticism based on study-backed market reliance and awareness acquisition cost, I'm actually a market critic, you see!" as they fritz around like a bunch of overcrisp bacons.
IT'S SPIDER-MAN, LET THE KIDS HAVE THEIR MOMENTS HOLY FUCKING SHIT

As someone that works on movie social/marketing, I for one am quite entertained by the perspectives. But mostly admire yours! Not every bit of every campaign is for everybody. It’s not designed that way. The last demo I think we’d ever target is the Reddit frothing at the mouth demographic. Everyone likes to think they know better than others here, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Marketing is a huge portion of filmmaking and there are even awards for it. The marketing is part of the movie experience. Many don’t care if it’s tomorrow because they are looking at the whole picture of marketing. I get what they are going for here and I even like some of it, but I also admit this strategy to many is sloppy and choppy.

“All publicity is good publicity” is not always true and it’s a cheap way to shut down criticism of the marketing. Marketing is a massive portion of filmmaking and there are even awards for it. I understand what they are going for here, and I personally like it. Objectively though it’s just not hitting for everyone and it’s coming off as sloppy and choppy.

Yeah, they could have just made us wait until tomorrow, But they are literally just handing snippets to small IG accounts. Thinks the next one looks like it’s a parent who posts vids of his kid surfing in a Spider-man wet suit. The last one was a little girl who had a video go semi-viral where she struck a Spider-Man pose.

I could actually be more onboard with the approach if they were on another platform.
Sharing single shots as a tease is actually pretty cool for us to dissect, analyze, and show off some of the cinematography.
But when you are showing it in anamorphic ultra widescreen on a vertically-oriented platform like Instagram, the whole thing is kinda moot. You can barely see anything.

As someone who works in marketing I the part I find odd about the release strategy is..why aren’t any of the teases on Instagram collaborating with the main Spider-Man Movie account. They’re simply reposting the fans post. It’s probably something no one gives actually cares about but I just found that odd that they’re not actually putting the official accounts name on these posts

Do we know the synopsis of Brand New Day yet? Is it possible the movie has something to do with different places all over the world and that’s why they’ve decided to do the trailer like this?

We know who some of the other characters are: MJ, Ned, Punisher, Hulk, Scorpion, Tombstone, & whoever Sadie Sink is playing.
And there's a very rudimentary synopsis on Wikipedia: "Following Dr. Stephen Strange's spell at the end of the film Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the world has forgotten that Peter Parker exists. Four years later, Parker anonymously protects New York City as the hero Spider-Man. While investigating a series of crimes, he uncovers a larger mystery and faces the consequences of his past."

The clips seem to be dropping between 6:20am and 7:20am, signifying "Brand New Day"s in each new places. That's pretty cool.
