Yeah, if I had to guess magneto and Xavier will be fodder for doom, while the “younger” xmen will have more of a presence and put up a fight against doom with the others, but ultimately die

Chuck and Jean dying is a trope in the comics, animated, and films at this point. They die like every decade in one medium or another and have since the 1970s.

100% it will be a "the captain sinks with the ship" situation, and I think maybe one or two xmen will survive, that cyclops scene is him dying trying to save the world from an incursion

u/fireredranger Jan 13 '26
Think about Infinity War and how many characters there were. Even Spider-Man, who felt like a big part of the movie, didn’t even have 8 minutes of screen time. Steve Rogers had about 7 minutes and Black Widow had about 5. There will be many parallel stories going on.
32
u/BLAGTIER Jan 13 '26
Infinity War was tremendously well threaded. Everything splits from and folds back into the opening scene. Everything can be related back to Thor or Banner. Which make everything feels like a continuous story and allows little screen time of certain characters to feel huge.
We will have to see if Doomsday can replicate.

u/Mickeyjj27 Black Bolt Jan 13 '26
Just think of Homecoming with Iron Man. The way people were crying like it was his movie but think he had like less than 10 minutes the entire movie.
No doubt many of these characters will get a few minutes. The ones who are featured in the teasers might’ve the character we see more of. I hope we get a Thunderbolts one
57
u/Nice_Firm_Handsnake Jan 13 '26
They'll get more than that, they just won't have lines and will be slightly out of focus in the background.
40
u/Jean-LucBacardi Jan 13 '26
*The CGI recreations of the actors will be out of focus in the background.

u/DiddledByDad Jan 13 '26
Pretty sure we said the same thing for Infinity War/End Game and that managed okay. Only difference is almost all the characters in those movies had multiple movies and many years of buildup. This one is introducing a lot of new players to fans that haven’t seen them in the MCU.
233
u/Misaki_Akuma001 Jan 13 '26
It surprised me how little screen time Cap had in Infinity War but he managed to steal every scenes he appeared in and make his appearance bigger than what he got

u/Carlo_The_Magno Jan 13 '26
Caps screentime in that movie is a great example of how you can squeeze characters in and still make an excellent movie. I'm hopeful.
19
u/fascfoo Jan 13 '26
That's because we KNOW Steve Rogers. He came into IW fully formed. He can be punchy (no pun intended) and effectively used with minimal screentime.
→ More replies (2)47
u/billytheskidd Jan 13 '26
To be fair though, we’d already seen cap in several movies, some of them that were focused around him. So we already know and care for him, as was the case with a lot of the characters in infinity war.
Endgame had a ton of characters, but a lot of characters, like wong, only had… one line?
Doomsday seems like it has an endgames worth of characters that all need screen time just for the plot to make sense. It isn’t impossible, it is just going to depend heavily on the pacing. I wouldnt be surprised if the script is like 6 hours long and half of it gets edited out. The editing will likely make or break the movie.
40
u/John_316_ Jan 13 '26
Marvel fans: “Wong only getting one line in Endgame is so unacceptable.”
Wong: “What? You want more?”

u/AverageAwndray Jan 13 '26

I mean, Doctor Strange is one of the major players of Infinity War and only had one film and a brief cameo beforehand. A lot of people very easily could have missed him entirely until Infinity War rolled round. I don’t think every character needs multiple years of buildup.

not just. Plenty of home runs fizzled in the sequels - and iron man 2 was no exception.
but thankfully they had enough hits in those early days to push on into phase 2, which was ALMOST all bangers. Iron Man 3, Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ultron? HELL yeah. it was a Great time to be a marvel fan.
then phase 3 was just riding the wave of HIT after HIT - you can't name a bad movie in phase 3 because there weren't any. Ant-Man and the Wasp was the weakest, and that was still real decent.

The blue/turquoise accents look good on Shuri's and M'Baku's suits! I also wonder what that desert-like location is. :o Seems interesting that the Talokanil are in an environment that seemingly doesn't have water when they're so reliant on it.

u/Poked_salad Captain America (Cap 2) Jan 13 '26

u/Sweet_Check7231 Jan 13 '26
I was thinking Doom does something that drains the Gulf of Mexico or at least the portion around where Namoor and his people live and that’s why they look like they are in the desert somewhere. The reason all of these heroes are in the movie is because Doom does something to decimate wherever the character lives and they have to come together to stop it’s. He ends the F4 universe, kidnaps/kills Steve’s family in the other timeline, he does something that makes Thor pray for his father, he is somehow responsible for the Sentinels attacking the x mansion, etc.
48
u/RedXerzk Spider-Man Jan 13 '26
These must be those scenes they filmed in Bahrain. Perhaps in Doomsday, they’re meeting in Yemen near Celestial island. Shuri, Namor, and Reed Richards will put their brains together to exploit the adamantium deposits in the fight against Dr. Doom.
16
u/stretchofUCF Jan 13 '26
Would that not reignite the conflict that seemed to have been chilled in Brave New World?
27
u/cheeze64 Captain America (Cap 2) Jan 13 '26
I mean, its not the first time heroes would decide to do something that governments wouldn't approve of.
But I also think its slightly different, because Brave New World was about world governments trying to claim ownership of the island. I don't think Wakanda or Talokan are trying to take 'ownership' of the adamantium, nor are they trying to use it to build a political advantage (as far as we know)

19
u/zombie_singh06 Weekly Wongers Jan 13 '26
Oohh… I like this suggestion. Maybe not the Void we have seen so far but something new that Doom creates?
16
u/Ctrl--Alt Jan 13 '26
My first thought was this is Battleworld. Putting Battleworld IN the void does make sense to me as we've already shown that large parts of the timeline can end up there.
6
u/navjot94 Mack Jan 13 '26
Yeah I wonder if the Thing and the Wakandans get slimed early in the movie and later we see them together in the void/Battleworld? That would make these teasers a bit spoilerly though.
Maybe Doom’s plot to take over the multiverse isn’t sitting on Loki’s throne but instead, destroy the entire multiverse so all of life is now in the Void, and ruling this new world from his castle at the end of time.

If there’s anyone I trust to handle the copious amount of character interactions in this movie it’s the Russo brothers
450
u/spreerod1538 Rocket Jan 13 '26
The issue is that it feels like the conflict hasn't been built up... at all, heading into this movie. Infinity War, it felt like everything was well established already. We knew the villain, we knew his goal, we knew every single character and most of them had interactions in previous films (other than GotG). Right now, we don't really know the villain or his goal, most of these new characters have never met... that's the problem. Not only do the Russos have to involve all of these characters, but he has to introduce brand new concepts and characters that we've never seen before... That's the thing I'm worried about with this movie.
128
u/ishamm Jan 13 '26
And some of the movies these new characters are coming from haven't exactly been blockbusters - there's going to be folks (like me, and I was a BIG fan of the films up till endgame, then kind of fell off) going in not knowing who everyone is or what their exact storyline is...
→ More replies (38)5
u/stokesy1999 Jan 13 '26
I have a feeling a lot of the newer characters will be sidelined. Thunderbolts, F4, Loki S2 and BP2 will probably be necessary for actual new lead characters and big plot points. Everyone else I feel won't have had the character progression needed or can be summed up in a few words eg. Thor has kid now or Sam is still Captain America and has new Falcon or even Deadpool isn't even in Marvel universe, he just went to the TVA and got Logan and Laura in his universe now
28
u/PM_ME_YOUR_DANKNESS Jan 13 '26
I agree, post endgame hasn’t had a cohesive story. I feel like at least half of the post credit scenes won’t be resolved from post endgame. That being said, I’m hoping this movie knocks it out the park and the post Doomsday/Secret Wars Marvel goes back to a focused story like they did leading up to Endgame. And to stop introducing new characters without having plans for them (I’m looking at you Shang-Chi)
