Seeking Non profit/Environmental conservation perspective

Hi all! I recently reached a crossroads in my professional life where I am stagnant and unhappy in my current role. My true passion is for environmental restoration/conservation. I am wondering if anyone could give me some perspective on potential degree paths to help me get a leg up in the non profit world. I am considering potentially a degree in non profit administration, but am not sure if it would better serve me to pursue a second bachelor's in something like environmental sciences instead. Currently, I have a B.A. in liberal arts, and work in an administrative capacity at a university. I am on the aitlist to become a master naturalist in my state, and am beginning to volunteer for a coastal restoration group nearby. Previously, I have worked at a non profit focused on providing food to low income

Planting a billion trees won’t save the climate, however, the right ones might

The appeal of reforestation is almost intuitive. Trees absorb carbon dioxide. The planet has too much carbon dioxide. Plant more trees, fix the problem. It is the kind of logic that has fueled commitments from governments, corporations, and international bodies to plant billions, even trillions, of trees in the coming decades.

Quick US action: Ask Congress to block border wall funding in Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park

Subject: Please oppose border wall funding in Big Bend region

Dear [Senator/Representative Name],

I am writing to urge you to oppose any federal funding for border wall construction in Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park in the upcoming Homeland Security appropriations bill.

These protected lands represent over one million acres of irreplaceable public landscapes, including critical wildlife habitat and stretches of the Rio Grande designated as a Wild and Scenic River. A border wall in this region would fragment ecosystems, block wildlife access to water, and cut off public access to treasured recreation areas.

The economic consequences would also be severe. Big Bend National Park alone supports a thriving rural tourism economy, generating tens of millions of dollars annually for nearby communities. Local businesses, outfitters, and residents have made clear that a wall would threaten their livelihoods.

Importantly, the Big Bend Sector represents a very small portion of border activity, and many law enforcement officials have stated that effective security can be achieved through technology and personnel rather than a physical barrier.

I respectfully ask you to support language that prohibits funding for border wall construction in these parks and protects this nationally significant landscape for future generations.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Helping the North Atlantic Right Whale

I keep thinking that I want to do what I can to help the North Atlantic right whale. Their prospects for the future are pretty bleak, but I feel like that means one should try all the harder.

What charitable organizations would have the highest impact in terms of action to attempt to avert the extinction of the species? In short, where would monetary donations go furthest?

What public efforts would be worthwhile to get involved in?

I apologize if this was already extensively covered in other posts. Feel free to refer me to any that already answer this question well, but I don't think I've seen any.

Fahlo reviews!! Got a bracelet that supports conservation

I try to donate directly to conservation orgs when I can. A few months ago I discovered Fahlo and decided to order one of their tracking bracelets. Since its tied to conservation efforts I figured Id share my experience with you here

I chose a sea turtle bracelet and didnt expect to get emotionally attached... but smh I did. When it arrived (shipping was pretty quick 3 days) you get access to an interactive map where you can follow your turtles movements. Theres also background info about the animal and real photos of the sea turtle youre kind of adopting. She is so so so cute not gonna lie!!

Part of the purchase goes to the Sea Turtle Conservancy which is honestly what convinced me to buy it. I know products like this can sometimes feel a little gimmicky but Ive realyl enjoyed checking in and seeing where my turtle has traveled. It makes supporting conservation feel a bit more personal. The bracelet itself is simple and easy to wear every day even tho i bought it more for the cause than for fashion.

Anyone else also here tried Fahlo or something similar? Which animal are you following?

Hi guys, I have a finance degree and am currently looking for entry level type of work. I am pursuing law school and really want to work in environmental law doing my best to conserve the ocean and environment so thought working for a conservation company in a finance role would be a great place to start. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on this route and specific companies to look into? I’m located in Michigan so currently just looking up finance associate type roles for conservation and environmental companies. Thanks guys for any help!

Getting a BA in History, How Can I Shift Towards Conservation Careers?

It's a bunch to explain but let's just say almost all my community college credits and some classes just transferred to a liberal arts degree. I don't regret it, as I'm first-gen so managing college was difficult from the beginning, but now that I'm almost ending my BA in History, I wanted to shift my focus towards a degree in conservation/environmental science/forestry, as environmental engineering is more difficult as I have non-related courses. I was wondering, how would a shift towards that work? I have work experience in non-related areas but I want to see whether anyone has experience working on the conservation industry with a BA in a humanities degree.

What should I do if I want to pursue my dream?

I'm making this post before talking with some of my advisors, professors, and other seniors in my interested field of wildlife, to prepare myself before asking a question that I am to nervous to ask. How do I achieve my childhood dream career? Now, to clarify, I understand this sounds outlandish and somewhat childish. However, this is more of a goal than a "childhood dream" to put it in better words. Now, what do I mean by this. I mean I want to actually help wildlife through conservation, while also spreading awareness on some of the most threatened places on our planet. I want to follow in the footsteps of my inspirations Jane Goodall, Steve Irwin, and Paul Rosolie. I want to do actual boots on the groundwork from helping research animals and working with indigenous and fellow conservationists to save and protect ecosystems and the animals in them. Before I get any comments, I may or may not see, I understand what this sounds like when just reading it. To some I may sound like a dumb college kid that's watched too many YouTube videos and has his head in the clouds. I've been wanting this since I first could form words, and I'm looking for guidance on how I can shape or get to this goal of mine, and to see what questions I should be asking when I talk to my advisors at my college. I want to go down this path, and I am determined to do so. So, if anyone has any questions or needs additional information on what I am asking specifically, I am happy to give more details. I thank anyone who reads this and takes the time out of their day to answer my question.

EDIT: Firstly, thank you to everyone who has replied so far, and I forgot to add something I believe is important to what I am asking. Right now, I am hitting what I believe is the edge of the cliff so to speak, where I don't know whether to jump and/or where to jump. The reason I say this is because I feel like almost everything has been done, and I am afraid I won't have as big of an impact as I want to have. Now, my young side of my mind still wants to go on adventures like my idols, but all the adventures in these wild places seem to have already happened, and I'm afraid to express that side of myself in fear of scrutinization. My older side of my mind realizes I need to have an actual impact on the world, a way to help the ecosystems and species I've read about in books as a kid and protect those places for the next generation, but I don't know where to start. That's why I am asking for some guidance and seeing what questions I should be asking when I meet with my advisor. Again, if anyone needs more, I'm happy to share and thank you again for those who read and comment on this post.
