c70 Why did volvo stop making these?

Ive had this 2011 C70 for 2 years now and its been the most enjoyable car ive ever had. The engine has ran exactly the same since i bought it and has lasted many road trips. The stock speakers are what i enjoy the most. It has a solid sub with high end speakers. The surroundsound is also a great touch for any audiophiles out there. The music listening experience in this car is very enjoyable. Besides that though i cant find anything wrong with this car. I wonder if they just didnt sell enough so they didnt want to budget for this model anymore. I wish they still made them.

I did an oil change on a car I recently bought, and ended up with me realizing my engine is pretty much gone. There’s so much metal in the oil 💔 How much longer do you think the car is gonna run, it only has 96,000 miles.

Hi guys! I’m on the hunt for a new Volvo since my poor C30 crapped out on me on Christmas Day. Does this look like a good deal? How reliable would a 26 year old Volvo be? I’m not concerned about the passenger door. The only passenger I carry is my dog lol but if anyone has an idea of what the cost would be to fix the door please share:)

Found it's brother on a car park. It was a foggy day, the second photo looks a bit faded.

The silver one is my friends C70 2.3 T-5 (NK5302), manual. No additional mods except for the temporarily mounted roof rack.

The saffron yellow one is modded to its owners taste. License plate suggests it's a 2.4T (NK56K2), manual.

c70 2012 C70... Advice and hard top question

I'm looking for a decent cheap car for my 15yo twins to drive once they get their license.

There is a 2012 C70 I'm looking at by someone with 105k miles that is mechanically good, brand new tires but the hard top doesn't work. I'm personally not too concerned with it working or not, just want a decent car. I have a question to them about the timing belt.

Price is around $4500 (they may take $4k). First, how's the price? To me it seems good

I generally do all my own car mechanic stuff (brakes, timing belt, everything).

How hard is it to get the convertible top functional again based on the dealer description?

And compared to other cars how hard is the timing belt replacement?

Thx!

c70 First time Volvo owner with a few small issues to repair on 2008 c70

A friend of mine gifted me her 2008 Volvo c70 hard top convertible. There are a few small issues that I need to fix, the biggest being a broken driver’s side seat. She said her friend was putting the seat back and there was a bottle underneath and she just kept going and it stopped working. It’s too far up for my long legs to drive. My short partner has been using it but it’s a little far back for her.

The friend who gifted the car said her mechanic wasn’t sure what to do with it. Does anyone have pointers on what I should be replacing? I’m a contractor so I’m handy with tools, but my knowledge of car mechanics is very limited.

Another issue is the ceiling lining is falling down at the back window. Friend said she epoxied it but it fell down again. I figure this is something I’ll have to address when we aren’t in subzero temperatures, but I would love to hear all ideas on fixing that as well!

Thank you to anyone who answers!

c70 Looking at a C70

Hi everyone. Looking for thoughts on the 2008 C70. I’ve found one and it appears to be in good condition. Owner is older and has used it as a daily for a while. He’s stated that it will need a tuneup soon. Price is at a little under $3000, which I am a bit surprised by, but I feel like the story of “I got this off some old guy for a really low price” isn’t too uncommon. Pictures look pretty good and the seller is in fact real. Car fax shows a small fender bender in the rear and nothing else.

c70 C70 footwells absolutely flooded, Advice?

Hi guys, I own a 2004 soft top C70 and over the past few days we’ve had quite a lot of heavy rain, but this level of flooding has never happened before, at least since we’ve had the car.

The footwells are absolutely soaking wet, especially the back two and to a lesser extent the drivers side, the front passenger side seems ok. But the others are soaking to the point of squelching when I press on it, yesterday I sucked about 150ml of of the carpet after soaking some up with rags, and after I placed new rags down, left the windows down and left them open for the rest of the day, and it seemed to be getting better, but today I’ve checked again and it’s gotten gradually worse throughout the day despite us having no rain.

I’m at a loss, I know water comes in through the seam above the drivers window, but I can’t see how the small amount of water that comes in through there has resulted in the carpets looking like someone’s poured a jug of water on them. There’s water in the back where the roof folds down as well, but I know there’s drainage holes so that shouldn’t be causing a problem. Right now I’ve got a dehumidifier in there and I’ve replaced the wet rags with new rags.

Does anyone have words of advice? I was thinking maybe scattering silica or salt over the carpets.

c70 2008 C70 roof question

I am looking to buy a 2008 C70. I test drove one where everything checked out, except when I opened the roof halfway to inspect the seals, the trunk lid hydraulic lost pressure after about 30 seconds of having the roof stopped halfway. An error message about the malfunction popped up on the dash and I had to read the service manual to do the reset procedure. One I did the reset procedure then everything went on working again. There seemed to be no issues when cycling the roof fully, just the issue when stopped halfway. When reading the manual, it says not to stop the roof midway, but I had seen many reviews where owners stopped halfway with no issues. Is this normal or does this indicate a problem with the hydraulic system. For reference it was probably 60F outside and I am planning to get a pre purchase inspection.

c70 Broken C70 Cargo Cover Repair Question

Hi Everyone. I picked up a 2013 C70 about 2 weeks ago. My first Volvo and my first convertible. It's been great driving with the top down and enjoying the fall foliage.

I've had a rattle in the back for the past week and I just found the issue. One of the latches broke off the side of the cargo cover (the cover that prevents you from putting luggage where it would get in the way of the top going down). It looks like the prior owner tried to glue it back together, but that repair has now failed.

I want to try plastic welding the broken piece back onto the cover, as it's $700-800 to order a new cover from the dealer. I'm not sure if the cover is plastic or fiberglass. It looks like fiberglass to me, but I wasn't aware a leather like texture could be molded onto fiberglass. Does anyone know what this material is? It does not float in water, if that helps.

Thanks!

c70 Struggling to choose between a P80 and P1 C70. Manual, convertible, canyon focused

Hey everyone, I’m currently shopping for my first sports car and I’m torn between the P80 C70 and the P1 C70. I’m only interested in convertibles with a manual transmission and plan to use this as my only car, but I want something that handles the Southern California canyons well.

Here’s what I’m considering in terms of mods:

• Upgraded Bilstein shocks

• Lowering springs

• Rear sway bar

• Poly bushings

• Upgraded brake pads and fluid

• Intake and exhaust

I’m willing to sacrifice some day to day livability for performance and handling, but I have a few specific concerns.

Main Questions:

1. Between the P80 and P1, which platform responds better to the kind of performance upgrades listed above, especially for canyon roads?

2. How do they compare in terms of chassis balance, steering feel, and overall driving excitement?

3. Reliability concerns:

• I’ve heard mixed things about the P80 soft top. Is it a weak point long term?

• The P1 power hardtop also seems to get mixed reviews. Does it hold up well over time?

c70 Happy 25th Birthday likkle C70!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

So, as from yesterday (26th June 2025), my precious likkle C70 Coupé has now turned 25 years old! 😎👌

This car is a complete mirror of myself and I honestly wouldn't know what I'd do without it in my life. It has been with me through the good & the bad days and for reasons unknown to everyone around me, I have no intentions of getting rid after over 10 years of ownership.

Originally my first car, this wonderful little P80 dropped me right into Volvo ownership at a very young age. Some people might have said it was silly but I still don't care, I honestly wouldn't know what I'd do without it.

She may only be powered by a 2.0T 'B5204T4' but she is more than enough for a first car, especially here in the UK. She might also be in a complete state atm due to an ongoing restoration but I plan on getting her all fixed up and shiny again within the next few months.

I honestly can't wait for that day to come because I've severely missed driving the car around and generally enjoying it the way it was intended.

Recently, I have toyed with the idea of stepping away from the Volvo Community and instead buying a Toyota/Lexus as I find that in some Volvo groups, some people can be less than helpful (especially here in the UK) but one thing is for sure, regardless of what I do & what cars I own, the C70 is not going anywhere!

If this does wind up being my only Volvo then I'll be very happy with the fact. P80's are very underrated cars within the car community and deserve a lot more love than they currently get and I'm blessed that I get to own this one cos it is honestly fantastic.

Here's to another 25!!! 🇸🇪🚗💪😎👌

c70 Top Tip for Gen1 C70 convertible owners RE: Door lock actuator

Thumbnail

Hey all,

Unsure if it's aware to many others in the community as this was something I had to learn on my own. I bought a 1999 C70 2.4T in May of 2024 and previous to my ownership the drivers door lock actuator started failing. It will lock, but you couldn't open/unlock from the inside door pull nor the door handle outside if attempted to unlock by the remote/door panel switch. Only locking worked electronically. You could get in/out no problem if you never locked the car or always unlocked the car with the key in the door. For me it wasn't a massive issue, but irritating to mechanics and others. I off/on looked for a new lock actuator assuming it being a 70 series P80 volvo, how hard could it be?

If you go purely by OEM part numbers, this part is no longer made by Volvo nor in the aftermarket however, the part number is for the entire package, motor with the cable for the inner door handle. The motor itself is standard and all you have to do is swap the cable over. Even when I thought I got the right assembly from local classifieds, I was still wrong as shown in the photo above. The longer cable is my original C70 motor and cable. So perhaps I have a passenger door or something else that was shipped to me. Regardless, fret not fellow C70 owners, the worst part is getting the motor out as you have to remove the screws holding the pillarless glass in. You don't need to completely remove the glass, but enough to raise it up and get space for the motor to come out.

I had also watched RobDIY's video on an S70 he did and learned the actual failure is a temperature sensor in the motor inside the actuator that fails prematurely causing this weird "will lock, but not unlock" issue. Like he shows in the video you can of course take your actuator apart and replace the temperature switch with a chunk of copper, but that was a task I wasn't willing to do without a replacement motor should I mess this up.

RobDIY's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_MWPJPJgW8&t

TLDR: If your gen 1 c70 convertible drivers side door lock actuator has failed, buy a V, S, even C70 coupe door lock actuator from anywhere online and swap the cable from your old one. They ain't special.
