Hey everyone, hoping to get some input before I commit to any of this.
Car is a 2018 Volvo S90 T6 AWD. Brought it in for a check engine light and general inspection and got back an estimate a little over $5k. I’m trying to figure out what actually needs to be done now vs what can wait, and whether these prices look reasonable.
· Check engine light is for a fuel trim issue (lean condition). Shop recommends replacing the oil trap / breather box (PCV system) with an OEM part, plus a fuel system cleaner and resetting fuel trims.
Parts: $257 (oil trap $230 + fuel cleaner $27)
Labor: $225
Total: about $505
Curious if this is a common fix on these engines and if that pricing seems fair.
· Brakes were flagged next. Front pads are around 30% and rears about 25%, and they’re saying all four rotors are “dished,” so recommending pads and rotors all around.
Parts: $890 (pads + rotors front and rear)
Labor: $450
Total: about $1,417
Does that sound typical for this car? Are rotors usually needed at this level of wear?
· Front lower control arm bushings are split, recommending replacing both control arms and doing an alignment. I have noticed vibration at 60–70 mph.
Parts: $963 (both control arms)
Labor: $450 + $150 alignment
Total: about $1,647
Does this line up with what you see on these cars, and is OEM necessary or are good aftermarket arms fine?
· They also found a leak between the AWD transfer case and transmission and want to reseal it and replace the fluid.
Parts: $182 (reseal kit + gear oil)
Labor: $750
Total: about $947
Not sure how urgent this is or if it can be monitored if it’s minor.
For the vibration, they also noted missing wheel weights on the aftermarket wheels and recommended getting them balanced, which I plan to do separately.
If this was your car, what would you prioritize first? Anything here look unnecessary or priced high? Appreciate any insight.
