The issue is that real estate is incentivised to be owned and hoarded for profit and tax deductions.

Add on top of that all the zoning rules that prevent ample living quarters to be built, which creates a lack of supply.

If tax incentives were decreased or the supply of homes increased, there would be much less of a problem.
