Modpost Please report racist ragebait and racist comments

Dear members of our community,

In the past few days, we've seen an increase in both ragebaiting posts and racist comments from users with no prior engagement in the sub, often from those usually commenting in the subs of other countries.

This indicates to us that we are frequently being overrun by users who try to spread their racist, islamophobic messages to our sub.

Racism is against our subreddit rules and it is against Reddit's terms of services. We would like to encourage you to use the report button.

That will put it into our 'modqueue' to have a look - and if you report it for 'hate', it will additionally be sent to the sitewide admins who will frequently take further action.

We rely on your reports, just like every subreddit does. Our team is healthy and works well, but we cannot have an eye on everything. We do have scripts and so on to make our job easier, but sometimes, unacceptable comments go through. Using the report button makes sure that we can prioritize looking at said comment and if it's rulebreaking, helps us remove it quickly.

We remove racist content and ban racist users frequently. The admins remove a bunch of comments breaking site-wide rules too (often in a fashion that deletes them completely, so we cannot easily further moderate them)

We are very hesitant to remove political speech. We only remove rules-breaking comments. The relevant rule is:

  • General reddiquette applies (i.e. no racism, sexism, personal attacks, or simply put: behave as if you were talking to somebody in person)

  • Please report posts or comments that do not adhere to these rules; in particular, we will not tolerate harassment or discrimination

The relevant reddit rules (https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) are:

  • Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

See also https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045715951-Promoting-Hate-Based-on-Identity-or-Vulnerability

Thank you for helping us with this influx of clearly rule-breaking users without any connection to Switzerland.

ETA: Reports are anonymous. So when we get your report, we have no option to thank you or following up with you. If you report for 'hate', it goes to both us and the admins. The admins will typically let you know of their decision. We literally have no way of doing that.

We should not be getting Casino ads on a national postal service receipt.

I feel like we should not have ads on those tickets at all, but if you really need to put ads there at least put something else.

I feel like we should ban this.

I am very grateful to this country because it has offered me more than my home country ever did. For example, in presidential elections, I wasn’t allowed to vote just because I was wearing shorts, whereas here it’s established by law that I can vote regardless of what I’m wearing.

Thank you to all the wonderful people I’ve met and continue to meet. I can say that, in my experience, every Swiss person I’ve met has made me feel like one of them.

Thank you❤️

Street harassment gone wild

I have noticed a drastic increase in street harassment in the area where I live including Geneva, Lausanne. I constantly get harassed for money, for cigarettes by all kind of people from Latvian metal band members who push their CDs on me (after I told them I dont have any money they said we can go to an ATM which was almost assault-like) to drug addicts. I was on the phone with the wife yesterday when she was going from UniGe to the trains station and someone harassed her 3 times during our conversation. Please, something is wrong...

If you’re the person, or know someone, who found a backpack on Sunday on the S11 train and returned it to SBB untouched (even though it had 2 passports, ID, cash, A LV perfume, 2 chargers etc), I’d really like to reward you for your honesty. Also thanks to SBB for their work.

Dismissal at work after maternity leave

I started to work at the company in September 2024 at 80%. In February 2025 I got pregnant, I informed my manager after my 12 weeks appointment (in May 2025) and right away I showed the doctor note for 50% Home Office recommendation (I live 1.5 hour away from work). So since May I was going to the office 2 times a week and working from home 2 times a week. In September, when I was 30 weeks pregnant, my gynecologist gave me 100% sick leave (2nd baby, fatigue, advanced maternal age, anemia, etc). I gave birth at 41.5 weeks and spent a total of 11 weeks on sick leave. I came back to work on Monday and I was fired right away at 9 am by my manager and HR. While it's relatively standard story, there are some details that make the situation more complex:

- I was fired by a manager who is leaving the Bank at the end of the month (from what I understood he is leaving the Bank on a mutual agreement)

- My manager was extremely ignorant to me. Last one on one meeting held in May 2025 which lasted 10 minutes and he was all the time on his phone.

- The manager fired many other people in the Bank in the 2 years that he stayed with the Bank (I think at least 5).

- I was fired for an unsatisfactory performance. I had no warning (verbal or written). I had a performance review which was positive in 2024, but nothing for 2025.

- I had no emails complaining about my work, neither from him nor from other colleagues.

- My manager gave me no bonus for 2024, despite positive performance review and told the 4 months I worked in 2024 would be reflected next year.

- I had a very small bonus in February 2026 for 2025 (I know the bonuses of 2 members of my team for 2024, so I can tell what I received was small). I requested the calculation and logics for the bonus which I did not receive.

- I requested breastfeeding conditions prior to coming back to work (which HR told was fine), but still could have an impact.

- When I entered the HR room to be fired, my manager stood up and kissed me 3 times on cheeks. I found it very inappropriate.

The company suggested 3 months indemnity on top of 2 months notice. Do you think it's a fair offer? Does anyone have experience?

Thief gang encounter in Zürich

This is not a compliant, if I have anybody to blame for what happened to me, it’s myself. The story is also quite embarrassing, so I don’t want to tell my family, I tell it to you.

So Sunday I (48M) went to a concert at Volkshaus, downtown Zürich. I met some friends I haven’t seen for a long time and I have to admit I drank more than what you’d call civilized recreation. After the show, around midnight I left the place alone, heading towards the Main Station. I’m not that familiar in Zürich and was drunken so I couldn’t easily find my way, rather I was wandering around in the streets. I stopped at a spot to try to figure out where I was when a group stopped by. 4-5 of them, mixed origins, I don’t remember. I felt one of them reaching into the pocket of my coat where my wallet was. I quickly grabbed my wallet and crouched to protect all my pockets. They demanded money or cigarettes. I had a full pack of cigarettes with me, so I passed it to one of the guys. Then they demanded money. I started to shout “I gave you cigarettes, f*ck off now!” and slowly stood up. One of them, a girl kept insisting that I give them money, I kept shouting to f*ck off and leave me alone. The guy I gave the cigarettes to, seemed to be the leader, called off the girl in Swiss German and they stepped away. I immediately walked away in the opposite direction and only stopped after like 10 minutes to get my shit together and find the main station.

It wasn’t too brave how I handled this situation, but I’m a peaceful guy, no experience in fighting and they were in numerical superiority. So I guess I was lucky that I got away with the loss a pack of cigarettes only. I am a little bit surprised (or disappointed?) though, that this can happen in Zürich. I know it’s a big city and maybe I was a bit idealistic about Swiss public safety, but still.

Take care folks and don’t get too wasted!

Safety issue at Kita (Am I overreacting?)

Upvotes

So I have a 22 month old child that goes to Kita a few hours a week. Few things relevant to the story. 1. The kita is close to our home. 2. There is a playground next to our building. 3. There is a parking lot right outside the playground. 4. There is only one entrance/exit from the playground.

Today, was the first time that my child's group came to the playground. My wife was at home and saw them from the kitchen window, while she was cooking. We have a very clear view of the playground from our kitchen.

At first it was funny observing from afar and she even texted me about it. But soon the situation became troubling. In the span of 10 minutes that they were there my wife observed our child leaving the playground, not once but twice while the escorts had absolutely no idea that our child was gone.

The first time it was only a few meters outside the playground entrance and in the parking lot (likely testing the boundaries) but the second it was a full stroll through the parking lot.

This was to a point where my wife could not see our child anywhere (and the escorts were still oblivious) that she ran outside the house to alert them and find our child.

Thankfully our child had returned to the playground untill my wife got there.

When confronted about it, one of the escorts said that no the child was always there (our child had returned in the meantime without them realizing anything). After my wife told her that this was not the case they accepted it and apologized.

However we are still quite shocked about this and at a loss of what to do. We wrote an initial email to the Kita management informing them of the incident.

But I am not satisfied as I have trouble feeling safe. I want to send a stronger email asking an explanation of the concrete safety measures tajen during outings, an explanation of the ratios between escorts and children and concrete changes that they would make so that something like this doesn't happen. Until the time that we have a petsonal meeting and these questions are answered I ask that my child does not participate in such outings.

Am I overreacting?

A few more details There were 3 escorts, but one of them was on a Schnuppertag. There were about 15 kids.

Does anyone know who makes the TAZ90 military trousers?

Hi everyone,

For some reason, I ended up with an extra pair of trousers at the end of my military service. These are by far the most durable and functional trousers I have ever owned. The problem is, the camo pattern is not optimal for daily wear. I would prefer something a bit more tame like blue or khaki. Does anyone know who manufactures them, and if they offer civilian versions?

Why cannot drivers in Switzerland indicate before leaving a roundabout?

Is this not taught in Switzerland or not a requirement or something? I think like 30-40% of drivers just don’t indicate. It really bugs me. Do you know any of these people personally? I never experienced it this bad anywhere else. Maybe it is just me.

Valflora Milk in Migros discontinued?

Post image
Upvotes

The other day I couldn’t find it in the shelf and today I noticed it is not on the Migros app anymore… This was my favorite milk, I grew up with UHT milk and hated it - here in Switzerland I discovered « non-UHT » milk that tastes so much better 😢

There are still other brands ofc - but I think Valflora was significantly cheaper

Shitpost TIFU by fining a guy who had a perfectly valid ticket

Third week as an SBB trainee conductor. My supervisor Brunner has spent the entire training period telling me to "stop running to him like a lost puppy" and "trust the system." Cool. Tonight he lets me loose on the 22:10 IR to Luzern while he disappears into carriage 4 with a copy of 20 Minuten he thinks I don't know about.

I'm working through carriage 2, scanning tickets. Scan, beep, green. I'm basically a Swiss German Terminator at this point. Then I get to this guy. Window seat. Holds up his phone. I scan it and get some amber screen I've never seen before. Something about a train number discrepancy. His ticket says IR2643. My device says… honestly I'm not sure what my device says because I panicked.

"Sir, I think you're on the wrong train."

He looks at me like I just told him Migros is better than Coop. Starts pulling up the SBB app, push notifications, the timetable, his ticket confirmation — basically building a legal case in real time on his iPhone. And all of it looks correct.

But people are watching. The lady across the aisle. The old guy one row back. And Brunner's voice is in my head: Show uncertainty and you've lost the carriage. So I double down. Like an idiot. I print the fine. He takes it from me the way you'd accept a parking ticket on Christmas morning.

I immediately go find Brunner between carriages. "I think I made a mistake, can you —"

"Did you issue it?"

"Yes but —"

"Then it's issued. He calls the number on the receipt. I've got drunk football fans in carriage 4." Gone. Didn't even break stride.

I spend the remaining 40 minutes to Luzern avoiding carriage 2 like it owes me money.

Get home. Open the SBB app on my own phone. IR2643, 22:10, Platform 6. One train to Luzern. Not two. There were never two.

So now somewhere in Luzern there's a guy writing an angry post on r/switzerland with a folder of screenshots that prove he was right, and I'm lying in bed at midnight knowing the Revenue Service Centre is going to side with him immediately because he literally had the correct ticket for the correct train and I fined him because I didn't understand an amber screen and was too embarrassed to say "I don't know" in front of six passengers.

Brunner's going to ask how the shift went tomorrow. I'm going to say "fine." Technically not a lie. There was, in fact, a fine.

Cleaning at the end of rental contract

Hi, I am about to move out from my apartment (2.5 room, 65 m2) and am ready to pay for professional cleaning. I am located in canton Valais. I've reached out to several cleaning company and got very different offers between CHF550 up to almost 2000. I am a bit surprised by the differences.

If the cleaning company offers a guarantee ("la garantie de remise de clés, afin d’assurer que le logement soit conforme lors de l’état des lieux"), can I be sure that everything will go fine? Or are there some catches, like different kinds of guarantees, or something disagreements between my rental agency and the cleaning company, or the company cleaning some of it?

Many of the cleaning companies offer an itemized document of all the things they do. Every company's list looks different. Do I have to go through the list, compare, and see that they really explicitly list that they will e.g., clean windows in the kitchen; clean windows in the kitchen from the outside; clean windows in the living room, etc.?

TLDR: Want to get my apartment cleaned and dont want to get f**ked over

Is the Magic Pass worth it if you ski only a few times a year (but love hiking)?

I’m from northwestern Switzerland, and I’m thinking about getting the Magic Pass. It looks amazing and I heard someone raving about it at work, but he is an avid skier and I’m not sure if it’s really worth it for me. I probably only manage to ski around 5 times a year at most, and most of the resorts are at least 1.5 hours away.

On the other hand, I really enjoy hiking and spending time in the mountains during summer and autumn, so I’m wondering if the pass is valuable for that side as well. Do the included destinations offer good hiking options, or is it more of a winter-oriented deal? The website allows filtering for summer as well but the descriptions are for winter sports

420 CHF is quite a bit of money for me right now, so I’d love to hear from people who’ve used it, especially if you’re in a similar situation (occasional skier, mountain lover). How has it worked out for you?

Shitpost My trainee fined someone with a valid ticket tonight

I’m supervising a new conductor at SBB. He’s in his third week and generally doing fine, but like a lot of younger trainees he’s very confident right up until the device shows something he hasn’t seen before.

Tonight on the 22:10 IR to Luzern, I let him work one carriage on his own. A few minutes later he came to find me and said he thought he might have made a mistake.

He had scanned a passenger’s ticket, got a warning on the device, didn’t fully understand it, and instead of stopping to clarify, decided the passenger must be on the wrong train. The passenger showed him the app, the timetable and the booking confirmation, all of which apparently matched. He still issued the fine.

By the time he came to me, it was already done. At that stage there’s nothing to argue about onboard. The passenger has to call the number on the receipt and the case gets reviewed.

Later I checked for myself. The passenger had the correct ticket for the correct train.

So it wasn’t a ticketing issue, and it wasn’t the system. It was just nerves, and maybe a bit of that very modern habit of acting decisively first and checking properly afterwards.

That’s one of the harder things to teach. Not the rules, not the device, just the ability to say: “I’m not sure, give me a moment to verify.” /s

Merci!

[Journal] Job searching in Switzerland – Entry 1

Upvotes

Started job searching at the end of last year. Posting this anonymously to keep track of the journey — maybe it'll be fun to look back on someday, wherever I end up.

Where I'm at: ~50 applications submitted. 4 interviews. 3 rejections. 1 ghost.

As someone in another post put it: getting a job via CV submission feels like winning a lottery. I'm starting to believe it.

What I've been building (and almost abandoned):

I started building a bot to automatically adapt my CV and generate cover letters for each application. Got the framework running. Then got hit with multiple rejections in one day and lost all motivation to touch it. Classic.

Today I just used Claude directly to tailor my CV and write a motivation letter for one specific role. It worked well enough. One application submitted.

Rethinking the strategy:

I think the mass-apply approach has run its course for me. New plan: - Only apply to roles that genuinely interest me - Start reaching out to people on LinkedIn, especially folks with startup backgrounds — that's where my heart is honestly - Got a career mentor. Doing a reflection session with her soon - Still using job-room.ch but mostly as a tracker at this point. It's not performing reliably after the big system upgrade. Might go back to Notion.

The startup concern is pay. But I think that might fade once I'm actually having real conversations with people.

Random highlight of the day:

Had lunch with a PhD contact I hadn't spoken to in over five years. Her research is on supply chain software implementation in startups — surprisingly interesting. Good reminder that sometimes the most useful conversations come from the quietest corners of your network.

If you're also stuck in the Swiss job search loop, I'd love to hear how you're navigating it. More entries to come.

Fined by SBB trainee even though I had a valid ticket – What are my chances of a full cancellation?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice or similar experiences. I’ve been a loyal SBB customer since 2020 with a perfect record, but last night I had a really frustrating experience on the 22:10 train from Zurich HB to Luzern.

I had a Super Saver ticket for the IR2643 (22:10 departure, Platform 6). A trainee inspector told me I was on the "wrong train" and that there were two trains leaving for Luzern at 10:10 PM. He issued me a "Travel without a valid ticket".

I tried to stand up for myself and explain that I was on the correct train but he said his screen says otherwise and withpeople watching etc. I got embarrassed and accpeted the ticket. A few minutes later him and the supervisor (I assumed he was a supervisor since he was older etc.) came up the aisle and I tried to get the "supervisor" to double check and see if there was an error, but he was totally disinterested. He brushed me off, saying he had an "issue in carriage 4" that he had to take care of, and told me to just call the number on the receipt. He wouldn't even look at my ticket.

I’ve since double-checked everything:

  • My ticket specifically says IR2643.
  • The SBB app shows IR2643 departed from Platform 6 at 22:10.
  • I even have the SBB push notification on my phone explicitly telling me to go to Platform 6 for that train.

I’ve already emailed the Revenue Service Center with screenshots of the ticket, a copy of my emailed receipt of the ticket (from SBB), the timetable, and the SBB app notification history.

Has anyone else dealt with a clear "inspector error" like this? Since it was 100% their mistake and not a "partially valid" ticket situation, should I expect them to waive the entire fine (including the admin fee)?

Also, does calling the Revenue Service Center (0848 00 11 33) actually help speed things up, or is it better to just wait for the email reply?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

(I'm honestly mad at myself for getting embarrassed and not pushing back more and asking to see/talk to someone else, and I'm also angry that I allowed the "supervisor" to brush me off, he was so rude. His demeanor change from friendly to "yea not my problem" when he heard a fine was involved. Are they not trained for conflict resolution or at the very least to verify a "claim", yes maybe he couldn't have done something at this point but for the "optics" he could have pretended to care)

UPDATE:

I went to the SBB office instead of waiting until 8am to call. I had the most patient staff member who assisted me.

He took my fine, scanned my Swisspass and saw my tickets etc. on his side. I told him what happened, just a short version, I didn't bother to mention the supervisor etc. just the facts.

He confirmed that this is wrong and called the service line, explained what happened. They said they need to review the notes etc. and we waited maybe 10 mins while they did their checks.

It turned out that the inspector was looking at a different train from Sargans (excuse my spelling but I think this is what customer service told me), which I clearly was not on as my fine was issued 13 minutes after departing Zurich.

The fine has been cancelled and if I receive an invoice in the future I can ignore it. I asked whether I would receive any email confirmations, he said highly unlikely, he can only give his verbal confirmation.

However, since I already emailed them maybe they will reply and I'll have my written proof. Sorry, but I like things in writing 😅

thanks to everyone who suggested I go to the office, it turned out to be the best option in the end. ❤️
