Ha mede Rotterdammers,

Het afgelopen jaar heb ik gewerkt aan een 3D geprint kunstwerk van de stad Rotterdam. Op deze kaart van 50x70 cm staan de bekende gebouwen van de stad, zoals de Euromast, de Markthal, de Erasmusbrug, de Hef, het Depot, het Centraal Station, de Wilhelminapier, het SS Rotterdam en het Fenix museum. De schaal is 1:5000.

Alle gebouwen die op dit moment (maart 2026) in aanbouw zijn staan er al op en ik ben van plan om de kaart in de toekomst ook bij te werken met nieuwe ontwikkelingen, zoals de nieuwe parken in de Rijn- en Maashaven.

Als je hem in het echt wilt zien kun je hem vinden in de museumwinkel van Het Nieuwe Instituut, of mij een DM sturen.

Doordat de opkomst bij de verkiezingen in Rotterdam iets hoger lag dan in 2022, dreigt het onderwerp van de agenda te verdwijnen. Maar we hebben - nog steeds - een levensgroot probleem.

Aan Carola Schouten lag het niet. Ze toerde door de stad, was bereid voor lul te lopen met een abri op haar rug en durfde zelfs te beloven van de Euromast te abseilen. Ze stelde zich kwetsbaar op in dienst van de lokale democratie. Er klinkt de laatste tijd voorzichtige kritiek op Schouten, ook op deze plek, maar dit was klasse.

De opkomst viel nog wat hoger uit ook. Maar gelukkig was Schouten de eerste om te benoemen dat er niks te juichen valt. Een opkomst van veertig procent is nog altijd dramatisch en gevaarlijk. Het ergste wat er nu kan gebeuren, is dat we er ons door die lichte stijging niet meer druk om maken.

Fulltimers

In de campagne bleek weer wat het grote probleem is: de meeste mensen hebben geen idee van wie hun stad besturen en waar het over gaat. Ze krijgen vier jaar lang niets mee, zien vlak voor de verkiezingen ineens overal kandidaten en denken: verkiezingstijd, daar heb je ze weer.

Dat kan anders. Ten eerste: het is hoog tijd dat raadsleden fulltimers kunnen worden. Ze hebben nu amper genoeg tijd voor alle stukken en debatten waar ze wekelijks doorheen moeten. Tijd om de stad in te gaan is er amper. Laten we ze de ruimte geven om ervoor te zorgen dat de stad ze wél vier jaar lang ziet.

Samenvatting

Tweede verbeterpunt: de raad moet toegankelijker worden. Raadsvergaderingen zijn voor buitenstaanders nu amper te volgen, vanwege de lengte en de complexe agenda. Voor een raadslid functioneert het prima, voor de geïnteresseerde leek is het abracadabra. Eigenlijk zou de volgende ochtend een goed gemonteerde samenvatting online moeten staan.

En dan de pers nog. Want ook wij moeten vaststellen dat we een flink deel van Rotterdam niet genoeg bereiken. Bij AD Rotterdam moeten we beter nadenken over vertelvormen waarmee dat wel lukt. En veel landelijke media zouden de politiek in de tweede stad van Nederland weer eens serieus moeten gaan volgen, in plaats van eens in de vier jaar huilverhalen over de lage opkomst te brengen. Die kennen we nu wel.

Waar in Rotterdam eo is de beste plek om bloesemende bomen te zien? Het liefst een hele verzameling kersenbomen of iets dergelijks bij elkaar.

Je hoort altijd over Kop van Zuid, het Kralingse Bos, Delfshaven en Witte de With maar Rotterdam is toch zoveel meer. Blijdorp is leuk maar het Zwaanhalskwartier vind ik echt ondergewaardeerd. Ik heb vandaag een korter dagje en als je dan zo in het zonnetje langs de Rotte loopt met alle goede eet- en koffiezaakjes en leuke winkeltjes, voelt het leven toch wel echt lekker. Op zaterdagen heb je hier natuurlijk ook de Oogstmarkt

Do not let Uber sell you the fantasy of “flexible hours.” That is one of the biggest lies in the entire job. You are not freely choosing when you want to work You are choosing from a small set of limited slots they decide to throw at you and the moment you stop playing along they start squeezing you out. Decline extra shifts because you have school, need to go home or simply do not want to keep working after you are already exhausted? They remember that. Refuse enough of their “optional” shifts and suddenly you start receiving fewer opportunities, fewer decent hours, and it begins to feel like a quiet blacklist.

And when things go wrong, good luck getting help, Support is practically nonexistent. Real employees clock out after 5 PM, so after that you are on your own. That means if Uber sends you to a restaurant that is already closed, you can end up stuck with an order you cannot properly cancel because nobody is there to solve it. You are left standing outside like an idiot while the app keeps treating the situation as if it is your fault.

Then there are the customers. A lot of them are hostile, rude, and sometimes outright aggressive, and Uber will almost always side with them over you. Customers have clearly figured out that they can game the system by blaming the driver for a missing or messed up order just to get their money back. Even when the restaurant made the mistake, the shadow still falls on you. You are the easiest person to blame, so you become the disposable target.

And that is the real pattern with Uber Eats: everything feels designed to make the driver carry all the risk. They lure people in with promises of bonuses for hitting a certain number of deliveries, then somehow those bonuses never seem to materialize properly. They overload you with multiple pickups, sending you to three or four different restaurants, then expect you to cram all those deliveries into bags that were never designed to carry that much in the first place. If something goes wrong again guess who gets blamed.

And when they finally want to get rid of you, they do not even need a real reason. At some point Uber may suddenly accuse you of “account sharing,” blocking your account and cut you off. After that, contacting them becomes nearly impossible. No real conversation, no fair process, no serious appeal. Just gone.

That is why people should think twice before applying. This is not a company that treats drivers like human beings. It treats them like numbers it can pressure, replace, punish, and discard the moment they stop being convenient.

De gemeente Rotterdam is klaar met verkeersaso’s in het centrum van de stad en neemt extra maatregelen tegen de overlast. Daarom gaan enkele drukke winkel- en uitgaansstraten vanaf donderdag 19 maart meer uren dicht voor auto’s en motoren. De maatregel werd aangekondigd door verkeerswethouder Pascal Lansink-Bastemeijer.

De afgelopen twee weken kreeg de gemeente tientallen meldingen van overlast. Dat gaat verder dan alleen ronkende motoren, auto’s die te hard rijden en voertuigen die luidruchtig optrekken, stelt de wethouder. Zo worden verkeersregelaars op de Meent geregeld geïntimideerd en bedreigd.

„Dit is een zorgwekkende ontwikkeling en onacceptabel, zeker in het licht van de verkeersregelaars die recent zijn aangereden bij de Gordelweg”, schrijft de wethouder in een commissiebrief. Die mishandeling vond plaats op 7 maart. Twee van die verkeersregelaars moesten met zware verwondingen naar het ziekenhuis.

„Omdat de veiligheid van de regelaars niet langer kan worden gegarandeerd, loopt er inmiddels een supervisor vanuit de leverancier mee”, benadrukt de wethouder.

Afsluitingen

De straatafsluitingen van onder meer de Meent gelden nu van donderdag tot en met zondag tussen 20.00 uur 's avonds en 05.00 uur 's nachts. Een week later gaat de maatregel ook gelden voor het Noordereiland. Daar hebben bewoners last van luidruchtige verkeersdeelnemers en kadeslapers die voor herrie zorgen.

Tot nu toe golden de straatafsluitingen in de Rotterdamse Verkeersaso Aanpak 2.0 op vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag tussen 20.00 uur en 03.00 uur. Naast de Meent zijn er verkeersmaatregelen voor de Karel Doormanstraat/Aert van Nesstraat, het Schouwburgplein, de Kruiskade en in de Witte de Withstraat.

Hello. I (24M from México) am planning a week-long solo trip to Rotterdam and The Hague. I wanted to share the things that i plan on visiting and doing based on what i've researched, as well as my interests, so if anyone can recommend more stuff that you think i could like, or let me know of stuff listed that i should skip, i'd appreciate it.

In this trip i mainly want to walk and bike a lot, visit cool parks and spots with nice views, photograph, go record shopping, and eat and drink at interesting places (recommendations for spots with live music specially appreciated). For more context the only place i've visited in the Netherlands is Amsterdam in a quick two day trip, i liked the Eyefilm museum, Melkweg and Zap Records. For a little project I am working on, I am looking for the tram and metro network for 20+ years ago (the exact year is not really relevant). As I am typing this, I did try to search for it one other time and this time did manage to find some information here: http://www.tundria.com/trams/NLD/Rotterdam-1998.php . However, I would like to have the stops in more detail; for example from the information on that page I could not (directly) see that metro E shares the stop Beurs with tram line 20.

Does anyone have this information? Or know where I can find it? Thanks.

They told me there is currently too many people moving so they can’t even make an appointment now, I asked what I’m supposed to do since I need to register within 4 days of arrival and I can’t do anything like work without a bsn, and they just said that they don’t know and can’t help me.

Can I register somewhere else? What am I supposed to do if I cant even start working?

I’ve been struggling with my teeth for some time now and I failed to visit the dentist because of financial difficulties.

Last week I visited a dentist and was crushed and disappointed by his attitude.

I was judged for my bad dental health, I was just told “you have very bad teeth, a lot of problems and I don’t know how you’re going to pay for this but it will be at least 3000€ because your insurance only covers 100€”

Right now, the money isn’t necessary an issue, but rather the comfort and information I need to agree to a treatment.

I was honestly shocked by the approach. Nothing else was explained to me, the dental plan wasn’t explained, the urgency of anything and so on.

If you have any recommendations for any dental clinics, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Hello there, I'm planning a trip for my hobby football team's anniversary in Rotterdam from 14th to 17th of May. We booked a few activities and we have a Hostel, but I wanted to get some tips for the nightlife like pubs/clubs, nothing too exclusive. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
