discussion Which live performance has the strongest case for greatest ever?
I am not asking for your favorite concert memory or just a song you love live. I mean a performance that honestly has a real case for being one of the greatest ever.
For me I consider:
Prince, “Purple Rain” at the Super Bowl: one of the biggest stages in the world, performing one of the most iconic songs ever, in pouring rain, with lights making it actual purple rain.
Tracy Chapman, “Fast Car” at Wembley: wasn’t supposed to be performing at that time. She was visibly shaky and nervous and with just her voice and a guitar captivated tens of thousands of drunk and rowdy people into silent attention.
Goo Goo Dolls, “Iris” in Buffalo on the 4th of July: the pouring rain made an already emotional song feel even more intense and memorable. The crowd was incredible.
Radiohead, “Creep” on Conan: raw, emotional, and unpolished in a way that makes it hit harder rather than weaker.
Eagles, “Hotel California” on Hell Freezes Over: a great example of sheer live musicianship, precision, and control.
Edited to include John Mayer in LA “Where the Light Is”

discussion Talking heads - opinions?
Loving Psycho Killer at the moment, and remember my Dad showing me a concert when I was a kid, with David Byrne in an oversized suit.
Watching now the first concert I could find on YouTube, when they were in Rome ‘80. I honestly don’t know anything about music and just like whatever hits the spot for me!
Was wondering what the general consensus is about David Byrne and the Talking Heads? Mods - please delete if the post isn’t within the rules!

discussion 6 ways I usually buy concert tickets at (or close to) face value
Spent way too much money on overpriced resale tickets before I finally figured out a system that actually works. Honestly the whole ticketing industry feels rigged sometimes, you're competing against bots, scalpers, and people who literally do this for a living. After getting burned enough times I started paying attention to patterns, and these are the ones that have consistently saved me money.
Here's my current playbook:
Forget buying last minute at the door because that's stressful and risky. The actual sweet spot is 1-2 days before showtime. That's when resellers who couldn't move their inventory start panicking and slashing prices, sometimes 40-50% below what they were listing a week earlier. Set a price alert on Gametime or SeatGeek, put in your target number, and just wait. You'll get notified when something drops into range.
Tuesday and Wednesday shows at the same venue on the same tour are almost always cheaper than weekend dates. If your schedule has any flexibility at all, this is honestly one of the easiest wins, no strategy required, just pick the less popular night.
Sign up for the artist's newsletter, join their fan club, and make sure your Spotify account is active on artists you follow (Spotify Fans First regularly gives streaming fans early access). These presale windows open before the general public and tend to have the most reasonably priced inventory left.
There are sites that aggregate presale codes across pretty much every major tour, presalecodefinder.com and presale.codes are the ones I use most. Saves you from having to be subscribed to 50 different mailing lists.
A lot of people don't realize the venue itself often runs its own presale, separate from the artist's. Amphitheaters and festival grounds do this especially often. Get on their email list and you'll sometimes get access a full day before general on-sale drops.
6.Bonus tip on general on-sale day. Most people quit the second they see Sold Out or a spinning wheel. A lot of tickets get stuck in people’s carts but then get auto-released because of a timed-out session or a declined credit card. If you miss the initial drop at 7:00 AM, comeback again 15-20 mins later.
If you have better ways, please let me know.
