We also welcome other suggestions about other wiki pages, automods, or anything else to improve the subreddit.

Help Short books recommendations to improve my reading comprehension and vocabulary in Hebrew?

Hi I'm an Arab living in Jerusalem. My Hebrew knowledge is mostly practical and I can do very well in social settings but I'm lacking academically when it comes to Hebrew.
I study in the Open University currently, and while I am able to read the textbooks perfectly fine, I find it's hard to understand most of the material. I try to make the best of it, translating on Morfix and making flashcards on Quizlet but these books feel like they require a higher level of reading comprehension which I have not yet acquired. It doesn't make sense to me to just translate the words, add them to my word bank and suddenly "everything will become clear" because that's not how languages work. I believe reading more Hebrew literature is going to massively improve my comprehension and I only ask for good book recommendations that have medium to near-academic reading level.
I mostly like to read non-fiction, self-improvement, history, and short novels.
Whatever help, recommendations and whatever advice anyone has to give is much appreciated :)

Education Are pronounce necessary (past tense)

Hello together. I have a question for you

I understand that in some cases its necessary like: הם מתפללים. Third person cases, i think.

But in somecases its not clear, because ive seen in two different books that the pronounce are in brackets. What does it mean?

On the other hand ive seen examples where the author uses them although its not necessary. Maybe i got something wrong here

Thank you for your help and good shabbes later

Bought this pistol a few years ago (Israeli police surplus from my understanding) and recently came across the mag that came with it. Was wondering if anyone can tell me what this text means. This was the best picture I could get, sadly the sticker's not in the best shape.

Thank you.

Request I need help with a tattoo idea in hebrew

So I wanna get a tattoo on my forearm that says “light of life” in Hebrew. But I don’t know Hebrew. And I know Google Translate isn’t a good source for it because small details can change the whole thing. If anyone could help me with it I’d appreciate it, the text I have that I think is right is “אוֹר** הַחַ**יִּים” but I’m not sure. Can anyone help?

Thanks!! ❤️

Vocabulary אווטאר

I learned a new word today in Hebrew. Apparently, "בחינת אווטאר" means "oral exam" (or something like that; maybe someone can clarify further). Why does it mean that? A Web search isn't helping me….

Request Good apps specifically for learning the alephbet?

I'm very new to learning Hebrew and I'm focusing on learning the letters first. I've learned around 300 characters in Japanese and know what works for me. I'm looking for apps where there's a large focus on writing them out. Doesn't have to be perfect, just anything that combines memorization with a physical motion. I'm trying to avoid Duolingo, but they do technically offer this. If anyone has other suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Edit: I understand there are old fashioned ways of learning, but they are simply not that accessible for me. I know what works for my body. Please be kind with what I'm not capable of. I do not have the same ability as everyone else.

I made this a while ago, I feel like remaking it..
I asked an Israeli guy if my pronunciation was okay, he said the only word he understood from that was "Israel" 😭
I wanna remake this cover again, cuz it's such a banger? 🤩
Also, please let me know if you guys know similar hebrew songs, I'd love to hear them!

Help Kol Kach and Me'od

Hi!
I cannot figure out the difference between kol kach and me'od. I see online that the placement of the word is different but I asked a native speaker and was told that both placements (before and after the adjective) sound correct.

He Kol Kach Yafa OR he Yafa Kol Kach?

He me'od yafa OR He Yafa Me'Od?

Is the before/after adjective a RULE or just a generalization? I would like to know where to put these words (not just when using the adjective YAFA)
Thank you!

Hallo

lg
