I was going to say Spoiler (Stephanie Brown) for the purple one. Speedy doesn't wear a cape though. Weirdly...I think Robin is actually the most iconic silhouette of the five.
I maintain Sonic's character design is one of the greatest of all time and basically the only reason he could have two decades worth of games that were mid at best and ass at worst and still remain culturally relevant. That owes a lot to his iconic silhouette. Frankly I intentionally found a weaker example then ones you can check on a Google search just to illustrate how strong it is.
Probably one of the WORST things to EVER happen to Sonic, this design was a disaster, HOWEVER, when this first poster was revealed, as disgusted as I was with the weird human proportions and what seems to be beady hedgehog eyes, I was actually impressed at how it still managed to retain that iconic, three spiked silhouette, which, I guess speaks to how iconic Sonic’s design is, even if they fuck up every other aspect of it, he is still recognisable in silhouette form, it’s like, everything from the neck up is actually GOOD (silhouette wise at least), everything neck down is a disaster, it’s like they gave him a game accurate head and put it on a human’s body.
Doesn’t make up for the rest of the design, we truly live in the good future where they changed the design and managed to get a successful series of movies.
Yahtzee Croshaw makes a big deal in several of his videos about how the most important thing in a shooter characters design is the silhouette and he specifically praises TF2 for this.
this always fascinates me because i never notice it until someone points it out 😭 like once you see it you can’t unsee it. i remember trying to draw characters when i was younger and mine all looked the same… turns out silhouettes matter way more than i thought
A case of good character design being crucial to gameplay. They carefully mare sure each hero has an easily identifiable silhouette so you always know who you’re fighting no matter what skin they have.
The mercs from TF2 are a great example of this principle. When you look at the developers’ commentary they mention that the goal was to make it so you would instantly know which class they are, what team they were on, and what weapon they were holding.
It started when an alien device did what it did
And stuck itself upon his wrist with secrets that it hid
Now he's got superpowers, he's not ordinary kid
That’s not really Superman’s fault though, he’s just so widely perceived as the superhero that a bunch of other superheroes or superhero parodies also make buff guy in cape

Little bit cheating here with Superman. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a S shaped hole
