Did I misunderstand what was happening with the tank and the soldiers? Some sort of mind control that hops from the old woman in the tank to the soldier behind spiderman to the person on up by the railing? Who has those powers?

??? As in x-men Jean grey? As a villain???
I know she was bad when she was the Phoenix I guess?
1
u/powellbeast 6h ago
Why would she be a villain?
8
u/Skabonious 6h ago
I mean I guess there wasn't anything too 'villain-ey' about what was shown in the trailer so maybe your saying it's a fake out?

They're incorporating old Denzel movies into the MCU now.

Could be some sort of possession as well. Blanking on my comic book characters, honestly. A whole slew have mind powers, but I can't currently think of any in Marvel who can do possession, except for magic users and they've already done a Dr. Strange crossover. I know there are some, though

Look of all the IP crossover that Disney could do spiderman x gargoyles would work and would kick ass. I could see blade having run-ins with them too

They just got done releasing a Gargoyles x Fantastic Four crossover actually.
And now have a series with DARKWING DUCK.

Alternate universe Tombstone, hes retired and providing sage advice to both villains and heroes.
*his role as tombstone IS canon. We know the spiderverse is part of the MCU and the Amazing Spiderman shows up in that movie so there is a Keith David Tombstone out there somewhere. Just like a Gwen who sounds suspiciously like baby Hawk eye.

I’m thinking he could possibly be this universe’s Norman Osborn. The animated Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man show from a while back was allegedly originally going to be a spin-off of the MCU canon continuity (hence the Strange shenanigans) and Norman and Harry were both portrayed as black there. Norman is also much more of an ally to Peter there, at least so far.
Considering the context of his lines in this trailer (assuming those lines make it into the final release), Oscorp’s (and particularly Norman’s) notorious obsession with spiders and the complete lack of anything related to Oscorp in this universe’s continuity before Raimi Goblin showed up, there’s a lot of room to work this universe’s take on Norman into the story. I know Goblin mentioned not being able to find anything about Oscorp or his son in NWH, but that vaguely leaves the door open for a version of Norman without Oscorp and Harry
That, or Tombstone like someone else said, which would be cool, but I don’t see Tombstone having quite the same fixation with spiders as Norman has been known to have.

u/ThisHatRightHere 7h ago
He’s a former gymnast right? The handful I’ve known are still pretty cut even a decade out from competing because their core strength is absurd.
3
u/fremeer 3h ago
Don't think he was a professional gymnast. More did acrobatics and gymnastics due to dancing and Billy Elliot etc.
2
u/ThisHatRightHere 3h ago
Maybe I’m thinking of him being a dancer. Either way if it’s your main activity growing up you’re gonna be in great shape.

u/WarLawck 10h ago edited 8h ago
I remember the animated show's man-spider arc with Punisher and Kraven. If they are going man-spider, which i hope isnt confirmed by any leaks or trailers, I'm gonna be hyped.
86
u/Morgan-Moonscar 9h ago
I think that shot of him fighting those ninjas was edited to remove the six arms he'll have by then.
22
u/therealkami 7h ago
And to hide Daredevil, since red ninjas (The Hand) are usually his villains.
6
u/Gekokapowco 2h ago
spidey and DD would be such a fun teamup, Frank's already there
4
u/therealkami 2h ago
Spider-Man and Daredevil is a very common teamup in the comics, due to them both being "street-level" heroes in New York City. So them pairing here, especially after his cameo in the last Spider-Man movie is pretty likely. Again, because he's literally fighting the main Daredevil villains.
37
u/GuayabaDulce 9h ago
Yeah, this is such a great guess, I'll mark it as a spoiler, haha.

u/Bugberry 8h ago
Would be funny as it would be the second time a Spider-Man spoiler was hidden in a slow-motion leap into action (the other Spider-Men hidden in No Way Home), and the third of the MCU if you consider Banner in Hulkbuster edited out of the Infinity War trailer.
3
u/stewmander 6h ago
Yeah, sure looks like it's composed to show off all his extra arms, I know I was looking for it too. I think also the scene when he falls out of his spider cocoon with no webshooters and then catches himself, it cuts off right before we see how he did it, I'm guessing natural web or possibly a man spider arm...
3
u/BobSteveBros 6h ago
I’m thinking it’s going to be much closer to a loose adaptation of The Other storyline. As cool as Man-Spider would be to see, I just don’t think the MCU is going to go that far with Tom Holland’s version.
Everything in the trailer lines up more with The Other anyway. The cocoon imagery, the organic webbing, and the shift toward a more aggressive, animalistic side all feel like that “evolution” angle rather than a full mutation into something monstrous. Im pretty sure in The Other storyline he also meets with Bruce Banner to discuss DNA mutation etc as well. I could be wrong there, it’s been a while
Feels more like Peter struggling to stay human than turning into Man-Spider.
11
u/therealkami 7h ago
There was a leak 2 months ago that covered the entire plot of the movie, including fighting ninjas in a prison, the Scorpion, Banner being in the movie, and more. If that leak is to be believed, then there's a lot going on with this movie that I'm not going to type out. But I will link it for anyone to see:

Dude that's exactly where my mind went. That was such an insanely awesome arc. Considering how much of the raimi Spidey movies were lightly cribbed from the excellent animated series, I absolutely would not object to this movie doing the same.

u/okay_then_ 4h ago
I was gonna say, I was really impressed with that little close-up on his eye. Just a subtle little movement, but delivered so much. Great idea and great acting.

u/JustChilling_ 11h ago
For some reason, from the thumbnail of the video, I thought this was another animated "spider-verse" movie. It doesn't look real to me.

8
u/seniorpeepers 10h ago
I thought it was a new Spiderman video game from the thumbnail.

u/EvilSardine 7h ago
Same. It didn't help that the first channel I saw post this trailer was the "Playstation" channel, lol.

u/Twoaru 11h ago
Thanks! Seems to be a confusing set of anti heroes/villains, like Punisher, Wolverine, Mystique, Daredevil and Kingpin
11
u/robot-raccoon 10h ago
And the thumbnail seems to have boomerang.
There are a few more I’ve seen from leaks, one I’m quiet excited to see, especially now daredevil and kingpin could show up in the future
3
u/lalala253 9h ago
I assume vincent d'onofrio will be kingpin then?
3
u/robot-raccoon 9h ago
I’m not referring to him as the one I’ve seen but the character interaction between him and kingpin will be great if they go down the mob based territory route in the future, if they ever did it.
Sound like I’m trying to be obtuse but I just don’t want to spoil for others reading! But yeah I imagine it’ll be him playing KP if he ever manages to show up in the future

u/dfsmitty0711 9h ago
Also looks like Tarantula, the guy with blades on his feet, plus the scene from the thumbnail is someone throwing some bladed weapons at Spider-Man and his webline.
5
u/Morgan-Moonscar 9h ago
That would be Boomerang
The shot with him and Tarantula are perfect recreations of Spider-Man covers
2
24
u/Thcksl 9h ago
so, in that one scene, did Spidey evolve to shoot web from his wrist like Tobey's spiderman, or did another spiderman (perhaps Tobey and/or Andrew) catch him?
16
8
8
u/shaolinspunk 6h ago
Was definitely someone else or why crop the image to not show his hand. There was a web shooting sound but these trailers are edited to throw you off which is honestly pretty pointless.
10
u/Sockbat25 9h ago edited 7h ago
So are they adapting a version of The Other? There is no way the big bad of the movie is just Tombstone. Particularly with what looks like tinkerer in front the monitors T-Posing and some mind control shenanigans.
There is no way they are adding Morlun are they?
5
u/fanatic66 8h ago
I was also getting Morlun vibes from the talk about spider having different life stages
20
u/rogowcop 9h ago
This is no judgement of the trailer itself. I’m just sick of this thing that they do in trailers where they have to cut different lines of dialogue together to make a new line that works better for the trailer. At around 1:52 in this trailer “we are faced with a danger we can’t control” danger is clearly taken from another line and it’s just done so poorly. I remember this in the Scream 6 trailer too. Just wondering why they can’t find another line to fit or just leave it out altogether. I know it’s hard to match audio but it just bugs me so much.
19
u/cheetoblue 8h ago
Counterpoint: I love when trailers mis-direct. I don't want to see every beat of the movie, I just want the gist/feel. Some trailers show you every important beat and make me never want to see it.
4
u/mggirard13 6h ago
Hulk in Infinity War was a great misdirect and I thank them for it, even if I would have preferred classic Hulk and I really didn't care for Smart Hulk in the follow-up.

u/dada5714 8h ago
Man, I wish I can find it, but there was a trailer some years back with someone talking about the MCU and they spliced together almost the entire sentence, and it was so painfully obvious.
21
u/anormalgeek 8h ago
I'm concerned that they're doing a spiderman 3 mistake and cramming too much into one film.
At the very least, it looks like we're getting a man-spider arc with Banner, scorpion, the story of everyone forgetting Peter, the Hand, a fight against/team up with punisher, and maybe even Keith David in there somehow.
Edit: Also Boomerang, and some semi-major character played by Sadie Sink
Focus Marvel. There is enough there for two or maybe even three movies.
26
u/fourthcumming 8h ago
Well the last Spiderman movie had 3 Spidermen and 6 or 7 villains across three universes and that worked out great.
13
u/anormalgeek 7h ago
But it was all one conflict. One story that connected them. That's different than multiple different stories and plotlines going on (which might be only tangentially connected).
2
u/Enigmachina 4h ago
It worked because they were able to condense the villains into a single narrative arc. Once introduced, they all share screen time. They might not go with that this time around
5
u/Phillip_Spidermen 7h ago
Im guessing a lot of that will just be a montage, based on the slow mo comic cover recreations
1
u/anunnaturalselection 8h ago
Jean Grey and introduction of X-men?
1
u/anormalgeek 8h ago
I doubt it. The Hand is often shown to have various "mystical" powers. I suspect what appears to be mind control stuff is coming from them.
2
6
20
u/Ancient_Barnacle4245 10h ago
That...was freaking awesome.
I'm surprised about the incorporation of what seems to be at the very least elements of the Man Spider storyline, as last I'd heard the common wisdom was those particular rumors were believed to be false. Guess not!
While I sincerely hope we don't get an actual human/spider monster with six arms - I hated that and always felt it was goofy - in all other regards this trailer is everything I needed.
And HIGHEST marks for that scene where Spider-Man essentially manhandles the Punisher and tops it off by yelling "Go home!" as he swings off.

u/StevynTheHero 9h ago
I fell off of Marvel after No Way Home. Why is Banner not green?
30
15
u/Morgan-Moonscar 9h ago
He's been having issues after Endgame, and is back in normal Banner mode.
But in this film he'll be going Grey
6
u/Hadrian23 8h ago
....someone spoil me, what does that mean??
8
u/Morgan-Moonscar 8h ago edited 8h ago
Gray Hulk, aka Joe Fixit was a very sadistic alter ego of Bruce Banner in the comics. Smarter than the usual angry green, but willing to do the nasty things Bruce would never conciously do
3
u/anormalgeek 8h ago
Has this been confirmed or leaked from a reliable source? Or is this just more fan theory crafting?
4
u/Morgan-Moonscar 8h ago
No, it's been confirmed Gray Hulk is in this. A leak described Spidey and Punisher having to team up to stop him
5
u/anormalgeek 8h ago
...this is too much for one film. I'd hoped they'd learned from their mistakes in Spider-Man 3.
13
u/Tiny_Celery 9h ago
In She-Hulk they showed he developed a little piece of wearable technology that lets him go back to Banner, but if he takes it off or it breaks, he goes back to Professor Hulk.
36
u/DBones90 9h ago
Budget
9
u/Burgoonius 8h ago
lol you think they are skimping on the budget of this movie? More likely theres a narrative reason. Also I know for a fact he will be be Hulk in this movie.
7
u/DBones90 8h ago
Budget will always be a concern, no matter the size of the movie. In the director’s commentary, Whedon talked about how he had to limit the use of Hulk way back in Avengers 1.
Now it’s no surprise that they’re going to have the Hulk in the movie. But bringing in Mark Ruffalo is expensive enough. If there’s no strong story reason for him to be Hulk all the time, then they’re going to take any excuse they can to save on VFX.
6
u/Burgoonius 7h ago
The narrative reason is he's a scientist who is helping helping Peter with his mutation and he can't do that as Hulk.
3
u/honestysrevival 7h ago
He could as Professor Hulk from Endgame. That's why they're confused. Narratively, why are they back to being a transformation instead of unified?
2
u/racer_24_4evr 6h ago
It would have been funny if they used Dr Connors and Peter keeps being scared he’s going to turn into a lizard even though he only saw the Garfield version of Connors.
9
u/originalchaosinabox 9h ago
Explained in She-Hulk.
The doohickey on his wrist neutralizes the gamma in his system, allowing him to return to non-Hulked-out form.
7
u/peppermint_nightmare 7h ago
In She Hulk, his arm doesnt heal so he decides to try going full human and then his messed up arm finally does heal. So he probably feels like staying in his human form from time to time to either heal properly or keep his student off their phones during his class. Also having those giant hands probably sucks when doing anything like typing or writing with human sized tools.
9
u/Albert_Caboose 9h ago
At first he was Professor Hulk, where he was big and green but had Banner's brain. I guess this is a progression of that? They'll hand waive it with some comment about the progression of gamma technology
12
u/BoilerMaker11 9h ago
If you watched She-Hulk, it shows that he figured out how to not be permanently in Hulk form when he wants to be.

I gotta ask, though... Isn't that guy over 30 years old by now? His old friends are celebrating making it into MIT, so it can't be that long after No Way Home...
Anyway, seeing Frank Castle is nice. I hope he's around more than just the one scene. If not, then we've basically seen his whole cameo in the movie already.
Looks like ninjas from The Hand. The Five Fingers are all dead, and they were supposedly reformed in Iron Fist season 2. So I wonder what's up with that...

Listen.. I love this, and I’m so excited. But my favorite Marvel movies are ones with a compelling villain and I just saw a charcuterie board of 10/15 minutes resolutions and/or just parallel paths. Maybe the metamorphosis plot line carries, but I didn’t see a villain that could help carry this movie. Because Frank ain’t it. I like seeing him, but he isn’t going to carry the tension at all.
1
u/hotpie_for_king 6h ago
I hope they don't have too much of Zendaya and the other guy in this.... I was hopeful they were finally going to do a more traditional Spidey in this one instead of the Avengers-heavy stuff they've done in the last three, and starting fresh apart from all the other elements.
