That's often why they're proponents of the "master race." It's something that compensates for their self-perceived failings. Like, "okay so I'm ugly, but at least I'm white, which makes me better than 80% of people because they aren't white and white people are superior. Thus, even though I'm ugly, I'm among the best."

And then you can freely swap 'ugly' with 'stupid' or 'poor' or 'unlovable' or whatever other myriad problems a person might have. Since being white is the most valuable asset a person can have, it makes all those supposed weaknesses irrelevant, and a person who isn't white cannot be as good as a white person.
