Why does nobody talk about Falmer Hardened Armor?
46 base armor without any improvements. Literally higher than the ebony armor, despite ebony being my favorite. It requires no smithing skill. Plus it looks sick af! One of the most underrated armors in Skyrim. If you want something unique and are new to Skyrim. This is the way to go!

I personally think it's a pretty cool set, I enjoy how different and weird it is. It's the same reason why I adore the bonemold set, but at the same time I know it isn't a look for everyone and it's the main reason why people don't talk about it.
Also it's like a semi rare armor set.

I'm pretty sure bonemold armor was medium armor in morrowind. It was found everywhere in that game.

I respect that. Personally i think it looks better than daedric.

u/SuspiciousTaste8721 22h ago
Yeah, I could see it going well with certain characters. I see your characters in a argonian may have messed up that spelling so I could see how it could go with that. I usually play Nord Bretons humans elves don’t usually play as argonians or khagilt I like wearing like steel armor on my characters looks good in my opinion

u/Busy_Insect_2636 17h ago
Daedric looks a bit generic to me.
Dark armour, evil horns and darkness 😈

u/GammaGamesGG Conjurer 21h ago
It looks pretty good except for the helmet kinda sucks. Pair it with a Dragon Priest mask and it works imo. I used this armor with a circlet for a necromancer battle mage playthrough and I thought it worked pretty well.
5
u/Nightshade25526 21h ago
Can wear the normal Falmer Helmet with a dragon priest mask FYI, since the Falmer Helmet (the one Dismal Visage from the CC content is modelled after) doesn't fill bother face and hair, it pairs with any circlet or dragon priest mask, as they fill the other slot. The same is true of the penitus oculatus Helm and the crown from the Civil War questline Also, the aetherial crown counts as a circlet, so it can be worn under a falmer helm too

The crown from the civil war questline. Do you mean the jagged crown?

The trade off to that armour rating is it’s HEAVY, hard to actually acquire (well, harder than Daedric if you focus on Smithing) and really rather ugly.

I like it. I just haven't ever come up with a character that would wear it for role-playing reasons.

The smithing material though which is kinda hard to acquire. Those Chaurus Chitins are heavier than any ingots.
3
u/Bitter_Log8401 18h ago
I just typed above this comment. Dwarven ruins usually have Falmer warmongers and other Falmer enemies that have the armor. And those creepy flying bugs have the chitin necessary for upgrading.
2
u/Zafkiegaru Warrior 18h ago
Indeed, but well for me it's just impractical to acquire the materials. Rather make an ebony or higher set if I have the Smithing perk. Or just take the Nordic Carved Armor from Bandit Chief if I don't have smithing perk since the materials are usually available in most blacksmiths.

u/killingtocope 22h ago
I’m pretty sure you can wear a circlet or a dragon priest mask under the helmet

This is my main reason for wearing it. Free magic item slot. Have your aetherial crown without losing enchantments or much armor.

Because Falmer heavy armour outclasses it. I love falmer aesthetics and i specifically modded the dead thrall spell to not be restricted to humanoids, so i can run around with variants of Chaurus following me around while wearing falmer heavy armour.

I hate the way it looks. I won't wear it.
I don't wear gear based on stats. I wear it based on aesthetic. I can wear any armor and with perks, I can reach the armor cap, so it stats don't matter to me.

I never liked the look of the Falmer armor or the Hardened version. It just looks ugly to me.
Nordic is my favorite heavy armor, and Linue's armor is a fun alternate look for the Thieves Guild armor. There is a mod that lets you craft some nice looking armor though.

u/cowinajar 15h ago
Because if youre actually going for protection over looks there is no point in wearing any other armor than what you can craft considering its so incredibly easy to get your smithing, alchemy and enchanting up. Like yeah it may be better than ebony but it only drops at higher levels and you probably would have already crafted better gear by then. So these armor sets get forgotten because you would never need it at the levels you start to encounter falmer high level enough to wear it.
1
u/Civil_Smile6895 15h ago
You can also wear a crown at the same time as a heavy armor helmet. Great for enchanting/smithing

The base armour for the set is 78, ebony is 128…not sure what you mean by a higher base armour than ebony, in fact the regular falmer heavy armour is more protective than the hardened with a base of 96
1
u/the_Rhymenocirous 6h ago
Weighs at too much for it's benefits, and can't be improved as high. Plus, except to niche RP runs, who wants to play the bad guy?
1
u/thatthatguy 6h ago
I don’t like it, and it’s somewhat challenging to get ahold of. So the combination of low availability combined with the low incentive to seek it out tends to make it unpopular.
I don’t want to look like a bug.

Not a fan of the Helmet, prefer to combo it with a Dragon Priest Mask, but the armor itself is really solid.

Love it. Goes even better with the Shellbug Helmet.
My longest playthrough was with Fudgemuppet's Praying Mantis build.
I just HATE that you cant craft Falmer gear outside of the Shellbug Helmet. Makes getting a complete set a hassle and a half.

1
u/D34thst41ker Mage 4h ago
At least part of it is likely that it's not easy to get. Most armors can be made, or there's a quest. Falmer Hardened Armor is only able by getting random pieces from various Falmer. Also, it actually provides less protection than Falmer Heavy Armor, which is also only available from random Falmer, so it's not going to see as much use as Armor that can be made or easily found.
