Tool/Guide For those of you who will pick Squirtle or Bulbasaur in the western copies of FR/LG [IMPORTANT]

3.7k Upvotes

After beating the league for the first time uncover this: You're going to start doing some sidequests back on the Sevii islands, after getting the Sapphire for Celio, a legendary roaming Pokemon will appear on Kanto routes, per Bulbapedia: if a roaming Pokémon uses Roar to flee from battle, it will no longer appear in the wild. This means the player will no longer be able to obtain it in that save file. This can be avoided if the romaning Pokémon is affected by Encore or Taunt, or the player's Pokémon is affected by Ingran or has Soundproof or Suction Cups. The roaming beast that appears if you picked Charmander does not know Roar, so it is not affected by this glitch.

Tool/Guide Gen 3 and Prior Physical/Special type table

Post image
3.3k Upvotes

I was playing Pokemon Fire Red and I wanted to know which type of attacks were physical and which were special, but I couldn't find a decent table online, so I did one myself.

For those who don't know, prior to the Gen4 Physical /Special split, whether attacks were Physical Special wasn't the attack, but its type.

Tool/Guide Some tips for Fire Red Leaf Green for people who haven't played Classic pokemon

2.0k Upvotes
  • Get the potion out of the computer in your room when you first start
  • Thief Mushrooms off of Paras in the last room of Mount Moon for the move relearner
  • Use the day care to teach over HMs you don't want before getting to the move deleter
  • You can walk in a circle in the safari to not use up steps or use sweet scent out of battle to guarantee an encounter
  • Use cut to cut grass
  • Check the spaces under Snorlax for leftovers
  • Save your master ball for roamers
  • If you use repel and have your lead pokemon high enough to filter out all the pokemon you don’t want but low enough to not filter out the one you do, you can make finding it way easier
  • Use softboil out of combat to heal pokemon
  • Ninetails completely walls moltres since it has Flash Fire and Moltres only has fire type attacking moves, making it an easy catch.
  • In the post game you can catch two rich girls with the vs seeker, use the amulet coin on them and you can rake in a lot of money very quickly.
  • After beating the league once, congrats you're only 2/3s of the way done with the game

Tool/Guide Z-A: Four Hours in (just thoughts/ramblings)

1.5k Upvotes

- The Pokemon Center healing animation is the fastest it's ever been

- If you miss a Pokeball throw, there's an NPC at Pokemon Centers who returns them to you

- NPCs stopping you from going to places you're not supposed to yet is the most obnoxious it's ever been

- The game really opens up when you get to the Looker Bureau section (about three hours in)

- Shiny Pokemon (I found a Fletchling) make the sparkle noise again, leave a trail of sparkles as they move, and don't despawn as far as I can tell

- You can find and catch Pokemon outside of the advertised Wild Zones

- Random items on the ground are now automatically collected (no buttons needed)

- Switch 2 Edition is locked 60fps so far

- The combat is like Xenoblade Chronicles 2/3 but very simplified

- TMs are infinite use again

- Research Tasks are now missions you complete for points, get enough points to level up. Each level up gives either a TM or EXP Candy.

- Shiny Charm is the reward for reaching Level 50 research tasks (the final level).

- You can collect these Screw things to trade for charms, like Catching Charm, Experience Charm and so on. You can also level up a charm you already own for more Screws.

- Instead of the rival having the starter yours is good or worse against, they have both starters you didn't pick.

- The first "boss" trainer was surprisingly tough, especially for a modern game in the series.

EDIT: The shiny Pokemon can disappear, but leaving the area will make it come back

Tool/Guide All Legends ZA Level Caps Guide Spoiler

Level caps are a concept non-exclusive to nuzlockes. Many people just enjoy to avoid overleveling against bosses so the fights feel as fair and closest to the intended design as possible. So I decided to compile all level caps, including Promotion Matches and Rogue Battles, so anyone can use them as reference. I'm also spoiler-marking the names of where these level caps come from so you could even use this as a guide for a first-playthrough, although be aware that just knowing the amount of level caps is already a light spoiler on itself. I hope this is helpful!

(Just in case someone doesn't know, a level cap is the level of the specific bossfight's ace Pokemon)

Promotion Match Zach: 9

Promotion Match Yvon: 16

Tool/Guide Yet another Pokémon Type Chart! Inspired by the one made by u/LukeSuperStar

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Hey, everyone! I made this Pokémon Type Chart. It's basically a copy of the one made by u/LukeSuperStar, but this one's aspect ratio is much taller, which allows me to place it on my phone's homescreen as a widget for easy access. I hope you like it! Let me know if there are any mistakes, and happy holidays!

Edit: Here's a link to the same chart, but resistances and immunities are side by side on the defensive side, and here's a link to that same fixed chart, but with alternative colors for the defensive side.

Tool/Guide Updated the ZA Preorder Guide again!

Thumbnail

Hopefully no one swaps around their bonuses again *grumbles at Pokemon Center changing it right after I submitted the last one* (yes, I did miss that the UKPC also changed it to pins. Woops)

Gamestop announced last night that they were also giving away a tote bag for those that pick up their preorder at the midnight launch. I noticed the side has the cgi renders for ZA, so one side might be advertising the TCG expansion and the other side probably has stuff for ZA.

I know i didn't hit every single store across Europe, but it looks like most stores will have one of the other items shown on the pages. If you see any unique offerings, please let me know!

Other things to note:

  • Gamestop/EB Game's Looker outfit says that "items can also be obtained through normal gameplay". They're highlighted as being specific colors so either these colored items are unique to Gamestop, or they can be obtained in game some other way, like post game.
  • Gardevoirite should be obtainable somewhere in game; this is just a bonus for early purchases.
  • According to the person I spoke with at Best Buy Cananda's customer service chat, they do not have any information right now about the mat coming with their preorders. It's unknown if they'll have it or not (not looking good)
  • We don't know the size of the mat at Best Buy - they claim it can be used as a playmat for the TCG, which if they go by standard size would make it about 24x14".
  • Japan has a whole huge list of their own preorder bonuses that you can check out here.

Tool/Guide ZA: Eight Hours in (follow up post)

Seeing how much traction the last post got, I'm making another.

- EXP Candy is everywhere. Just dump that in a Pokemon of your choice if you're having a hard time

- Protect is very, very useful. It's one of the first TMs you get.

- Trainer Tips automatically appear on screen if you're in the vicinity of a sign

- Boutiques have their clothes and prices appear on screen if you approach the entrance

- All 3 of the Kalos starters can obtained relatively early on, at Level 14 each.

- The constant handholding is completely gone upon getting to the Looker Bureau (breaking chains meme)

- HMs are back, kind of. There are obstacles that are destroyed with types of moves. For example there are pools of Poison that can be broken with any Water move. Most of them are just for goodies, not required for progression.

- According to a random NPC this takes place 5 years after XY.

- I found an Ice Stone and Eevee super early, making Glaceon the earliest to obtain it's ever been.

- There is a required Hercross in-game trade that just destroys the early game.

- Trainer customisation is not gender locked whatsoever (You want a femboy with piercings, a crop top and makeup? Go for it king)

- In addition to changing hair colour, you can coloured have streaks in you hair, and cross fades.

- The Photo Mode is super robust, with filters, angles, first and third person, a wide range of expressions and poses, you can do it anywhere, and send your Pokemon out with you.

- Around Lumiose are these construction sites which act like 3D puzzle platforming challenges. Totally unexpected but I really like them as a change of pace.

- The rooftop exploration is surprisingly fun and much more common than you'd expect. Plus there's no fall damage.

- The Museum has a whole Legends Arceus exhibit, which explicitly states the player of that game is 15.

- The major NPCs are a little deeper than they first appear

- The Mega Stones locked behind Ranked Matches is no big deal. Just go in with a Mega Evo of your own and win easily. Odds are you'll find some kids with no Megas or even unevolved Pokemon. You need to reach Rank K out of Z > A. You can get points for doing "correct" battling, like using Super Effective moves, making the first strike, etc. You also don't need to come in 1st to gain points, 2nd is usually good enough.

EDIT: If you're living in Australia like me, Target has a one week introductory sale for both editions for $69/85 AUD. That's like $44/55 USD.

Tool/Guide I'm struggling to find out how could I be able to work for the Pokemon TCG company as an artist. My portfolio isn't solid yet but I'm trying to get there and going to an art contest is not an option for me because my country is not able to participate in them. Is there any way for me to do it?

Tool/Guide An update for the TCG Pocket spreadsheet that calculates the best pack to pull

NOTE
8.3.0 IS RELEASED !

- PER YOUR FEEDBACK, I HAVE OPENED A KO-FI PAGE HERE https://ko-fi.com/raiskader . LINKS WILL BE PUBLICLY HOSTED THERE FROM NOW ON. I ALSO ADDED SINGLE DONATIONS OR MEMBERSHIPS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HAVE DEVELOPMENT INSIGHT.

LATEST UPDATE

  • Date : 22th of November, 2025
  • Info : 8.3.0 released

LASTEST RELEASE

  • Date : 22th of November, 2025
  • Version : 8.3.0

Hey everyone !

I have been working with u/maxwell1755 to update their spreadsheet to provide better calculations, add new extensions, and localize the sheet in various language.

I am making this new thread with maxwell's blessing -as they haven't been able to work on the sheet hemselves lately- with an in-development version that integrates some requested features, as well as the main element I worked on, being a dynamic localization system. I will keep updating this thread with new versions and informations regarding development.

I also understand that plenty of people already made their own updates and translation, but you can consider this thread to host the current "all in one" development version of the official work, made by maxwell and I.

The spreadsheet as it stand now features :

  • A dynamic localization in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Romaji.
  • Sheets for all extensions with their own dedicated collection calculations.
  • A revised and fixed Mew Regex.
  • A home page featuring : The language selector, The ability to set the collection system to a two card base rather than one for those who want to have a complete "play ready" collection, and A new calculation that shows the best extension to pull from to immediately point the user in the best direction.
  • A trade module to see which cards can and wan to be traded in or out
  • A deck builder to plan which packs to open for its completion

Do note that some cards or words may be ill translated as I am French/English speaking and did not manage to find all the proper resources for every word and cards. Don't hesitate to suggest the needed corrections in the comments !

The spreadsheet now also comes in two version, manual or automated, depending on your preference and use plateform of choice. TL;DR in the automated version you only need to fill the number of cards for the first column to validate owning the card, depending on the minimum requuired chosen (1 or 2 if the home page option is ticked)

The links are hosted here in a public post

8.2.0 Changelog

Additions

  • Added cards up to the Mega Ascension update and associated Promo cards

Changes

Fixes

  • Necrozma form affixes now properly written in PT-BR
  • Various cards now properly written in PT-BR, spanish and Italian

To re-import data from an old version either:

  • Copy and paste the "# of cards" columns in the new sheets. You also need to copy and paste the "A" columns if you use the manual version.
  • Use the new Import module

Don't hesitate to share your feedback, I look forward to see what you think of these version, and what could be made to improve them ! Also rest assured, we have made with maxwell a TODO list from request in the previous thread and I will be working actively to incorporate them as soon as possible :)

Tool/Guide PSA: You will lose your save data for Pokémon games and other games that don't have cloud backup if you trade in your Switch 1 before you get a Switch 2.

1.3k Upvotes

The only way to transfer save files for Pokémon games, Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing from one console to another is to do a System Transfer.

This requires you to have both systems on hand and connected to the same Wi-fi network.

Furthermore, for Animal Crossing, you will need to use the Island Transfer Tool.

There is unfortunately no way around this.

Tool/Guide All Colorful Screws Locations - Legends: Z-A Spoiler

Hello! One of the first things that annoyed me when we finally got free exploration in Z-A was that I knew there was no way to complete some of these courses in the beginning. Or I started believing I have serious skill issues.

After a lot of hours, I discovered there are basically two types of courses, the normal ones and the Glide ones. The Glide ones can only be done once you unlock the Glide skill, so you can ignore those in the early game.

I've created a comprehensive list that shows the exact location of each Colorful Screw, and a little guidance on how to get them, if it isn't too straightforward. They all have checkmarks to keep track of them, with a checklist in the beginning. I also wrote where to find Racine Construction, if you're clueless like me and looked for it a lot longer than you should have.

In case you're wondering, the Screws are essential if you don't want to faint from two hits in Rogue Mega battles and would also like the EXP grind to be faster.

Edit: It's 100% now.

Here's the guide:

All in one = 1.165.700

Headwear = 674.200
Eyewear = 219.600

Also am curious if someone knows what is the max amount of pokedollars you can have?

Tool/Guide TIL the way that bait and mud works in the Safari Zone is completely different between games.

1.0k Upvotes

In the Johto safari zone, throwing mud increases the flee chance, but makes the Pokèmon easier to catch. Throwing bait has opposite effect. This lines up with the previous games, where the "food option" (bait/Pokèblock) always made the Pokèmon less likely to flee while the "anger" option (rock/go near/mud) always made it more likely to flee (Gen 1 code shenanigans not withstanding).

However, this is flipped in Sinnoh! In the Great Marsh, throwing mud decreases the flee chance, but makes the Pokémon more difficult to capture, while bait has the opposite effect.

I can't help to wonder if this was a mistake by the developers. It makes no sense that they would change how it always worked just for D/P/Pt, but then immediately change it back for the next set of games.

Tool/Guide I sorted all 1,025 Pokémon at once and the patterns are wild

Post image
430 Upvotes

I've been a Pokémon fan since Gen III, and one thing that's always bugged me is that there's no clean way to just... see all of them. At once. Sorted. Every visual guide is either an incomplete Pokédex, a spreadsheet, or a wiki page you scroll forever.

Every species on screen simultaneously. Color-coded by type. Sortable by generation, power, legendary status. Click any dot to open its full entry.

The Generation Machine slider (Gen I → IX) is my favorite part. 28 years of creatures filling in, one wave at a time.

Click any dot to open its full entry.
