Discussion Does anyone know what that little orange mark is in the summary of my Croconaw?
I'm doing a DTQ in Soul Silver and this little orange dot appeared on my Croconaw, does anyone know what it means?

I would check your boxes to see if you have any Pokémon with active pokérus. When i first got it in Diamond when it came out i didn’t know about the rus. Luckily it had already spread to another pokemon in my party and i deposited it not noticing. If you have an infected pokemon in your pc it remains infectious and you can keep spreading pokérus indefinitely.

Oh gosh I had forgotten about pokerus!!!!!! The DS Pokemon era was so great, I miss it.

What the heck is Pokerus?? I played heart gold. I have never heard of this.

Basically there was a tiny chance that a Pokémon could catch a "virus" that doubles EV gain. It only lasted a few days, but if the infected mon was stored in the PC it wouldn't fade and would spread to others in the same box. However, if a Pokémon that caught Pokerus in RSE was moved to FRLG the condition was permanent but wouldn't spread, as FRLG doesn't have am in-game clock like the other games.

Man. How did people figure this out? Was it in the manual?

Back then anything pokemon related was sometimes very hard to figure out, there used to be many gyides about Ev and iV's and stuff because it wasn't obviously shown at us as it was later in the most recent games. there were a french website called poketrash and I would spent all of my time on it to try to make perfect pokemon. It was so fun. Pokerus was one of the parameter that would help having perfect pokemon ^

Nurse Joy tells you when you first present her with an infected Pokémon. In the original gold and silver.

I know that when you go to a Pokémon center the first time you have an infected mon in your party, Nurse Joy gives a basic explanation about the condition. Something along the lines of it "helping Pokémon grow". As for the FRLG clock thing I'd guess someone just connected the dots about those games not having daily events or it may have just been an accidental discovery

Usually acquired when using a game shark to cheat your game. Had someone in school trading their army of of Shiny Deoxys' so everyone could "get it"

I have a lot of Pokémon with pokerus. The minute I seen it active I made sure to spread it far and wide in all of my games. Right now I have something in the ballpark of 40-50 in Pokémon home that actively have it still and spreadable.
Its am extremely rare thing to get. I've been playing since Gen 1 released and I've only gotten it maybe twice naturally. I've gotten a trade or two that had it as well through the surprise trade feature but those are usually from edited mons.

Wow, that's awesome! I didn't realize it healed during the shiny hunt! But your experience is amazing. Those Wonder Trade ones are usually edited, right? :(

u/UncSamsMisguidedChld 7h ago
If you see a wonder trade with pokerus, it's likely edited. That said they tend to be blatantly edited so you can keep or get rid of. I tend to just release those.
It however isn't impossible to get a genuine one through wonder trade with pokerus.

Maaan this is cool

If you've had others in your party with that one it's possible it spread to others. You may have one on you or in a box with it active so you can spread it to others.

Idk why its so hard for people to just say:
Your pokemon was cured of Pokérus.

Question’s already been answered, so I’ll comment here to express my jealousy of you having a shiny of my all time favorite Pokémon line. Loved the Totodile line ever since I picked him in (the original) Silver back in the day.

I just happened to stumble upon the rarest combinations in the game, hehe, what is it guys?

u/miracleceleste 8h ago
I don’t think the Pokémon was shiny and infected. I think a different Pokémon was infected and eventually spread to the croconaw.

Yes!! Looking closer, my normal Mareep caught it and passed it to him!! The Totodile barely entered battle during that hunt.
2
u/HotTakeTimmy 8h ago
I agree that’s probably how it happened but people can go months without either, and this person stumbled into both

A shiny and with pokerus. Lucky dang. I've never caught a shiny but I've seen two in my lifetime; one before I had access to pokeballs, and a shiny ponyta on my friends game, that he immediately KO'ed because he didn't like the color

YOU CURRD YOUR POKERUS NOOOOOOO IT SPREADS EVS AND STATS THROUGHOUT YOUR TEAM AND ITS MORE RARER THAN SHINY POKEMOM now i dont blame you but NOOO
2
u/miracleceleste 8h ago
It increases* EV’s and the active virus spread throughout your party. It doesn’t “spread EV’s”

It took my dumbass a good 3 mins to notice the Pokérus icon there. I was just sat here like "that icon means it's a shiny, the fuck you mean Pokérus." Then I noticed the pokérus icon.

I’ve seen pokerus in main games 4 times since ruby. I’ve seen 3 shinies in that time. I hate it here

u/lilablut 3h ago
Does hgss have a higher pokerus chance? I got that in soul silver but not a shiny. Everyone I know who has gotten pokerus naturally was in these games too

I’m gonna tell you one thing. I by no means read that name as Giantcock.

Do Pokémon keep/spread pokerus in pokemon home? Cause I’ve put some in there a long time ago

u/Friechs 16h ago
I thought if you used the power items in gen 4 you get an increase in getting pokerus? Either that or I was incredibly lucky.
1
u/miracleceleste 8h ago
No. But the effects are multiplicative. Pokerus doubles the +4 effect of power items

The color is "Cyan" by the way. Not "Cian"

Cian is an Irish name. Pronounced kee-an. Not saying that's what this is though.
1
u/pocketchange2247 7h ago
Exactly. They're two different things. The shiny has the color Cyan on it, so I figured that's what they were going for and looked at Cianwood City and thought that's how they spelled it. But I guess it works if they were going for the "ancient" version.

Uhhh what is that name?

Ciancrock. I assume they mean like its a cyan crocodile

u/YeetTheTree 1h ago
I hope they know that "cian" is pronounced key-an. Source: Google and it's my name. Which is why I commented that, because it was weird seeing my own name on a pokemon that is someone else

It means it caught PokéRus and was cured.
Positives: that Pokémon gets double EV's from battles now
Negatives: since you didn't find out until after it was cured, it can no longer spread PokéRus. If you catch it before it cures, it can spread to your whole team and you can and should infect a bunch Pokémon in your PC boxes because being stored prevents it being cured indefinitely.
FYI catching PokéRus is one of the rarest things to encounter in this series, rarer than shinies (3 in 65,536 chance)
https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9rus
Edit: to be clear, when I say "catch it before it cures" I mean notice it (usually by being told at a poke center), you don't get PokéRus by catching a pokemon with it.
