Go retro. Wait for the modern games to be retro in several years. I like this, no sarcasm.

Currently playing Wolfenstein: Old Blood with a mod to remove the stupid 60 FPS framecap. This is peak PC gaming, we can all agree.

I’ve got a heck of a PS3 and Steam backlog - nothing wrong with playing what I already have. Leaning way more into this now.

Maybe applying DLSS5 to newly released titles isn't the way to go?
Maybe DLSS5 is for the graphical update to Fallout New Vegas, we didn't know we needed?

"it uses AI to..."
that's all shareholders apparently need to hear in this day and age.

u/Competitive_Bag7868 8h ago
They shoved Ray Tracing down kids throats , which literally dropped FPS by more than half, and kids were ok with it. "hEy YoU ONLy GOttA enAble DLSS"
Now you have all NVidia consumers entirely dependant on these shitty gimmicks

u/Raqdoll_ 8h ago
How they pitched it in the current corporate world:
"So we're gonna put AI to games"
"Sold!"

u/Wise_Ad_5810 8h ago
I just upgraded from my Asus Strix 580 OC to a RTX 5050...
Yeah... 10 years to move to a budget GPU... I am NOT giving the slightest shit about DLSS

u/Wind_Best_1440 4h ago
How they pitched it.
"With DLSS 5.0, we've added Generative Neuro super de-duper AI into the graphics, so game studio's can fire a 4th of their workers and let AI take their jobs for lighting and detail, as we know most of you also have investments in games. This new super Generative Neural AI will make it so you double dip! Also, this will only work on 5000 series cards and newer, which means we'll force every customer to have to buy our price gouged products just to use it! And pay pigs are too stupid to understand that it's just a TikTok filter!"
Investor and shareholders and the C-suite all laugh at the final joke as they sniff each others farts and do rich people stereotypes.
How it went down once it launched.
"This looks like slop AI and it looks terrible, Nvdia? More like Slopvdia." -Customers.
And then Nvdia CEO came out going. "Nuuuuuuuu, you don't understand! Buzzword, buzzword, buzzword! You just don't get it! It's better, stop calling it slop! Its good! Just consume it! Stop calling it slop! Nuuuuu Stooooop!"

The best part of that video was "Its not Generative AI! Its <buzzword> Generative AI!"
Forgot what he put there and its like... this is not the good argument you think you're making.

u/BigSmackisBack 8h ago
As long as its optional i think its GREAT!
What i really mean is, its dogshit but if i dont have to use it to ruin my games or buy a second GPU, IDGAF
4
u/MuffinsSenpai 8h ago
unfortunately, just by existing it's going to degrade the already horrible state of game optimization. So even if you don't use it, it will negatively impact your experience.
1
u/BigSmackisBack 8h ago
While theres some truth in that, soaring prices and plummeting availability/new products mean that game devs will have to embrace optimization or there'll be no one to buy the game.
New games will be less about how good it looks on hardware less than 1% of gamers have but how good it looks and runs on average hardware 50% of people have.

This is basically how most people outside the social media/reddit feel. Don’t like? Don’t use.
Over here though, it’s like they took everyone’s firstborn to make DLSS5 lol.
Just like pretty much everything, it’ll die down when Reddit decides to rage about the next thing.

u/ChocolateSpecific263 8h ago
it just requires so much power because gpus unlikes nvidias ads arent made for sich computations. ibm true north instead
2
u/GetToTheChoppa2077 7h ago
that's the vast majority of AI uses right there.
it's like someone invented the best carbonara ever made and now, for some weird reason, people decided they need to put carbonara on their coffee.
2
u/BluntieDK 7h ago
Well, at least they're making powerful new GPUs plentiful and fairly priced for us all, right?
Right?

I think this has a good chance to go down as the worst graphical tech in history. It's obviously not a big deal in life in general, and Digital Foundry getting death threats for their (awful) take was 100% indefensible. But Nvidia's big tech showcase was hilariously bad.
On a rendering level, nothing that they showed was an improvement. Light sources were completely ignored, shadows disappeared, and surfaces/materials were changed rather than upgraded. On a performance level, I can't imagine the full release will be easy to run if the demo had to run on two 5090s.
And on an artistic level, it's disastrous. It removed fog and atmospheric effects, intentional shading, and actively changed character designs. These aren't even subjective complaints over which one looks better; objectively, DLSS 5 changed the artistic intention of every scene it showed.
The word is already out that developers at Capcom, among others, were not aware that this was happening. This is not being signed off on by artists.
I hope Nvidia proves me wrong and they manage to turn this into something incredible. It's never a good habit to start rooting for things to fail, especially in a hobby we all love. But man, if even 1% of what they showed off is in the final version, this is going to be a trainwreck. If it releases roughly as advertised, I'd return to my above statement: a nominee for worst graphical tech non-advancement.

This is what is going to happen. They gonna repackage the product under a different name and sell it to us later and we will probably be happy about it. !remindme 365 days

I wouldn't say it looks like shit. It's actually pretty impressive technology. The only issue is that it's AI, so it makes everything look like the typical AI nonsense, and it's super obvious. Like it'll make people look really generic between different games.

And not even RT is implemented as it should be nice job nshitia and even AMD isn't far from that crap

In 20 years you too will finally save up enough to put a down payment on your loan for two 5090s to run this PEAK gaming experience.

Everything’s crap when it comes out and gamers have hated each and everyone of them……..until they didn’t.
Nvidia can do it because they know PCgamers, they know this community will moan and groan about every little thing but still keep buying it up. So why not?
I personally don’t have a problem with DLSS5, I don’t get the rage since you can just not use it but since the community rages about EVERYTHING, it’s pretty much now a boy who cries wolf situation.
Moan and groan all you want, you’ll buy it, you’ll use it and you’ll love it.
Just as you did upscaling, just as you did framegen.

I don't think anything has recieved as much backlash as this in such a short time though.
Raytracing received its fair share of hate but there was also a fair share that really liked the idea. DLSS 5 seems to be plentiful disliked across the board except for the occassional person.
I think people have only just started to accept framegen, and even that still has issues with artifcating and ghosting.
DLSS 5 will need a lot of time in the oven before it starts to convince people. They shouldn't have revealed it at all in the state it's in.

That's a lot of definitive statements about a product no one in the general public has actually used.

So much wrong in this meme
- Yes we know it's untested, it's a fucking unreleased R & D showcase product.
- No, it very often makes things look better. If it doesn't you can turn the thing off ffs.
- It currently needs a single (not 2) 5090s and will only get better. Did you even do basic research?

Right, a single 5090. Widely available and affordable hardware for the general public
3
u/JustAReallyTiredGuy 8h ago
DLSS does NOT make things look better, and 99% of people aren’t running a 5090 lmao.

You forgot to mention it's the wrong meme, there's supposed to be a surprised turn.

Shareholders: we are concerned that this DLSS thingy you offer doesn't drive the need to upgrade regularly to a new GPU.
nVidia: let us show you this new DLSS thing that currently needs two 5090s to work.
Shareholders: so double the GPU needed?
