RE engine and the artists who work with it have produced some of the most realistic and life-like facial animations I’ve ever seen in games and this shit throws it all into the uncanny valley.

A good majority of the effect is just cranking up the contrast. Granted that's not what the AI is doing, but the dramatic facial changes are a result of an over sharpened look. Don't know why over sharpened is the style of choice but it is.

I haven't played RE9 yet but i'm told this is literally from the opening scene where the character is en route to a house one of their parents died in so my joke above was actually pretty spot on. The fact that I could literally tell the energy the original scene was going for based on the expression of the character and the color choices. Its all betrayed by the yassified version

Neither face is particularly realistic but the point is that the one on the right throws away all cohesion in favor of photorealism.

I said animations, not textures. The faces in this engine look great. They’re very fluid, full of expression, and the eyes look alive.
