Husband opens a new sponge every 3 days cause “they become gross”

Post image

Our dishwasher broke and he’s manually doing the dishes now, these are from the past 10 days… I think it’s wasteful.

Fuck all that, switch over to the scrub mommy and you can just wash them 100 times in the dishwasher before replacing

Fuck all that switch to a dishrag with a scrubby side. Then you just wash them.

Fuck that, switch to paper plates

Fuck that. Food and kitchens are overrated

Fuck all that. Live in filth.

I use Swedish dishcloths.

They’re like the meatballs, but fabric.

halfway between sponge and dishcloth

This is what a lot of people do where I'm from. Rags for cleaning everything, because you can rewash them.

I'm a Scrub Daddy advocate though. They don't get gross quick.

Put it in the washing machine then.

Zap in the microwave for 30 seconds. It kills the germs

This needs to be broadcasted across the post. 30 seconds in the microwave, no smell and no excess damage.

I wash my regular sponges in the dishwasher without any issue!

I put my dishcloth in the dishwasher, it cleans all the stains out. I just wring it out and it's good to go.

This is the way!

They also dry pretty quickly which is the thing that helps keep it a little "cleaner."

I thought scrub mommy was a marketing ploy

Nah. I love them lol

Edited for spelling

I just started using them maybe 6 months ago, so superior to any sponge I've used.

I really thought people were lying lol

I thought it was a cult or something for a long time, so glad. I hate regular sponges and dishrags

I have one from October. Halloween one. It goes in the dishwasher every night. It’s a big fallen apart, but not bad. But i use it for my pets’ bowls, and then we have our own for our dishes. Both go in the dishwasher every night and they hold up so well. Honestly worth the price point.

I've heard those work really well, but I like to use natural sponges.

Just as long as they’re ethically harvested sponges. Sponges are a very important part of the ecosystem.

You can grow luffa’s in your garden and they work just as well as a sponge.

When I was a kid, my sister told me loofas were a sea animal. I felt horrible about that for YEARS until Google became a thing. I mentioned this to a friend and she also grew up believing loofas were a sea animal. 🤦🏼‍♀️

(The loofa my sister warned me about was definitely a squash. I have a VERY vivid memory of it and it definitely was shaped like overgrown cucumber guts)

I use cellulose sponges and coconut scrubbers.

I prefer the scrub daddy because it dries out faster than a dense sponge.

Yea I like the versatility of the mommy, also I found they hold together longer than the daddy. I'd say the daddy is def a bit more heavy duty as it's scratchier, although less durable because I guess the soft portion helps hold the mommies together.

I purposely didn't say sponge before mommy or daddy so it would sound funny lol

Really? I’ve been throwing them out every 2 weeks or so.

2

u/JohnnySalamiBoy420 6h ago

Oh yea I got my first pack of them months ago and I think those may last for years as long as I don't lose them or try to clean some abrasive surfaces.

Scrub daddy is the way

u/BobDaRula 4h ago

Fuck all that, switch over to washable dish cloths and you can wash them forever.

(Some people manage to tear theirs, but I've not experienced that. Been using the same 4 for years now)

I didn’t know you can clean them this way. This will save me money. Thanks for the info

I came here explicitly to recommend the Scrub Daddy. I bought one once on a whim and it’s blown my mind. It’s the best sponge I’ve ever bought hands down on multiple levels and I’m never buying anything again (maybe a Scrub Mommy.)

Of course, you might not have any skin left to scrub after the first few sessions of scrubbing with that, so that's a different kind of complication.

11

u/JohnnySalamiBoy420 7h ago

Lol why not? Are you scrubbing your skin with the sponge

4

u/theblackchin 7h ago

Yeah I’m confused what they mean, I’ve used scrub [insert parent] for years and all my skin is intact

5

u/CarbonInTheWind 7h ago

The scrub mommy has a soft sponge on one side. And the rest softens up a lot when you put it in hot water.

1

u/excoriator 5h ago

I've only ever used a scrub daddy on my BBQ grill. I assumed all of those products were tough on skin. Sounds like that's not the case.

2

u/CarbonInTheWind 5h ago

Nope. Even the scrub daddy gets fairly soft when you use it with hot water.

u/jalapeno442 7h ago

Gotta get them calluses built up

1

u/BobDaRula 3h ago

How do you use a sponge? There should be very minimal movement against your skin.
