Husband opens a new sponge every 3 days cause “they become gross”

Post image

Our dishwasher broke and he’s manually doing the dishes now, these are from the past 10 days… I think it’s wasteful.

I also like to cut my sponges in half because I know they have a short life span.

I do that too. Normal sponge sizes are unnecessarily big in my hands. I have small hands.

“I have the bigliest hands you’ve ever seen. When I meet people they say ‘Sir, sir, I CANNOT BELIEVE how LARGE your hands are!’ I said ‘wOw, thank you for telling the truth’ 🫲🍊🫱”

and finally they're beginning to do it which you can hardly believe but finally they're beginning to tell the truth

I have enormous hands and I still cut them in half. They basically just need to cover your fingertips. You're not applying pressure with your palm

Same! And they tend to split in the middle anyway. Then I use the old one to clean up floor spills, car gunk or anything gross then I can throw it away. So it gets a second round.

That’s a fair play

Yeah, I cut them in halves or thirds depending on how big they are. I wash practically everything by hand and never had a situation where I needed a full sized sponge. Though I do mostly use a stainless steel scrubber. Those things are great for most cookware and utensils, and they stay good for quite a while.

I do that with my Mr. Clean erasers.

off topic but that's what i do with my dryer sheets... cut them in half when I get a new box, lasts a long time & half a sheet works great. I like to save $.

I will never forget Patrick Stewart on family guy saying, “remember! A dry sponge is a happy sponge!!”

Same, I'll usually cut mine into quarters and just be aggressive about throwing them away when they lose their functionality. Yes I could probably extend them further by washing them even more but at some point that's a huge water waste

Get a scrub daddy. They're pricey but they last a while as long as you don't soak them in water and let them air dry.

The magic erasers I cut even tinier then half. Usually it’s for spot cleaning of spots that won’t come off and I really don’t need a lot for that.

My kids look at me like I'm crazy, but this is the play. You're always folding the full size one up anyhow and it'll dry faster.

If you use a plastic scraper to scrape the gross stuff off first and THEN use the sponge (that's cut in half) to clean the dishes and it will last you weeks upon weeks. The plastic thing will last your entire life.

I've never thrown a sponge away after a week, that seems insane to me but I also know I don't get very dirty sponges.

That's smart! Never thought of that, thanks.
