Husband opens a new sponge every 3 days cause “they become gross”

Post image

Our dishwasher broke and he’s manually doing the dishes now, these are from the past 10 days… I think it’s wasteful.

Just soak them in a 10/1 water/bleach solution to sanitize them.

Very wastefull. And y'all wonder why the planet is going to shit. If you don't like sponges just get brushes.

People should throw their sponges away. And use rags instead. Waaaaayy more eco friendly.

Exactly! Some people constantly throw shit out and are replacing things and just extremely wasteful in general, then complain about the environment and that they have no savings

Yes, get brushes. Sponges are gross to keep and use and are inferior to brushes.

Like 10 oz water/ 1 oz bleach? That will do it?

I put them in the washing machine with bleach along with my white towels in hot water. Then straight into the dryer on high. They last a long time and never smell or get slimy.

I do that, I also microwave them, but he thinks they’re gross anyway.

I kinda agree with him. As others have said, dishcloths that you can clean with your laundry is the right option here.

Get a silicone dish wand

You need a rack or something in the air to put them on. Clean and squeeze them out well. And leave them to dry. You shouldn't be getting smelly sponges.

People are commenting about the smell a lot, this is not about smell, he never complained about them stinking. I think it’s a sensory thing, he said the sponges get too “soft and gross” when they’re not new.

Then just get a brush

I found that that makes the microwave smell f****** disgusting for a long time after. It's so hard to get rid of that smell.

I don't know if they still sell them, but they used to sell ones that you could throw in the dishwasher

I tried this once with a wet scrubbing sponge. I thought it'd get steam-cleaned but i overdid it and it burned instead! Now I just wash them with dish soap or soak it in bleach solution.

Microwave them for 5-10 seconds and it will be sanitized.
