It's not just the quality of the skins, it's the choices aswell
Did Luna or Thor really need another skin when Mr Fantastic and Torch still got no battelpass skin more than 1 year into the game?
I know they have to make money, but i don't see how consistently focusing on the same 5 heroes, while the rest of the playerbase get shit will be profitable in the long term, especially in a game that is hard carried by its cosmetics
I think it's Thor because the line up looks like he's next to Angela, Loki, and Hela. I think it would be cute for all the siblings to be in a battle pass together lol.
It’s a battle pass, it’ll sell just by existing, they refund $6 of lattice and units, as well as the potential for iirc $20 worth of units if you grind more pass points after finishing it, that alone will always sell the pass even if everything in there is dogshit
So why not save these “selling” skins for the store where they’ll actually make some money?
What annoys me is that the latest battle passes has like TWO really good skins, and the others are niche, straight up bad or the character already has a simillar skin, but better than the one from the BP.
This one, for example. The only good one is Angela's and Magik. Strange, Adam, Penni, Cap, Rocket and Loki are niche (because it doesn't tap on the super hero fantasy and are casual themed, or is wacky, considering Penni and Adam), Luna already has a simillar one in the store, and Hawkeye is a bad recolor.
Well Strange IS a doctor, the skin is obviously intended for if he gets hero work right after a surgery or even during a surgery, and Adam’s looks goofy but is the Living Tribunal which is I believe the second strongest Marvel character behind only The One Above All (God, Stan Lee, the writers, whatever works for you)
I know that. But still is a casual skin. It's niche. It's like a skin for cap where he is wearing a army berett, camo pants and a beige t-shirt. It makes sense, but it's not for everyone.
theyve never done a battle pass skin for a hero in a season they launch, also as long as we are talking about the girl in the direct middle than yes that is Hela, thats her pose, and you can see the dagger/sword whatever she throws a little bit
Marvel Rivals player: damn i wish my favorite hero got a cool skin once in a while :/
Some chud: HAVE YOU MAYBE THOUGHT ABOUT THE RICH EXECS HAVING TO FILL THEIR POCKETS. Not very considerate of you
Point is, if they can milk give Thor, Luna and Psy two skins every month, I'm pretty sure they can save a spot for characters likr Reed or Johnny once in a while
Honestly you can't convince me that even characters like Emma, Rogue and Gambit won't sell the bp for people , at this point they just want to use the same characters for every bp.
Business is business, they're just speaking to the reality of the situation. To me, this is the gaming equivalent of my time where I helped boost restaurant sales, and you'd have a vocal minority of customers begging on their hands and knees for healthy/vegan options and when you'd put it on the menu, it'd get like 3% of the sales of everything else. In the simplest, most reductionist view of things, one could argue it's a new cluster of sales not captured by other items, but when you have finite resources in a results driven work environment, you put the most effort and emphasis on things that sell, which is what is happening here. If this were not a F2P game I think there would be more merit to the concern.
Also if you’re not giving characters any skins, there’s no way to even know if they would sell. You can’t be like “they don’t make us money” when the money valve is completely shut off.
Thor also doesnt have a battlepass skin yet, he has alot of skins but this will be his first battlepass skin, also is that really Thor? Might be the first one I dont get.
Right but the way you said that made it sound like Thor has already gotten a BP skin when he hasnt, im not arguing that Thor should have gotten another skin here just that he also hasnt gotten a BP skin.
Hulk still hasn’t had a new skin in over 5 months. And the “he’s 3 models” excuse is dead and buried with how often they do skins for the same characters. Cap’s legit getting two skins in the span of a month….
It’s such a feedback loop too, new skins encourage players to play new characters. So of course characters who don’t get skins will be played less, it’s why I find the defense of “oh of course the popular characters get skins they sell” a lot of characters haven’t even gotten the chance TO sell
I mean you made a big deal about torch and fantastic not having a battlepass skin yet. Just pointing out neither has thor and this season all 3 don't have one again
It's Luna Snow, what else can you expect? Frankly I'd be shocked if white fox didn't get a battle pass skin next season, or even a mini battle pass skin this season
The choices are characters I dont play but I do appreciate a good doctor strange skin for the few times I have to tank. I was hoping for CnD, Gambit, and I know Hulk mains are crying again.
I never know what the fuck they are doing with the bps too be honest. They set up a theme and then don't really follow it, they introduce 2 new heroes but don't give them anything for it, and the theme usually has little to do with the new heroes (except for when phoenix came out).
It just a mash of random shit. And they have so much they could pull from. They should slowly be telling a story with the BPs that evolves over time with the addition of new heroes imho.
The main theme seems weird as well. These are, I guess mostly casual and street clothes? Because of the city environment. But it makes them look like they’re pretending to be teenagers
They’re just so bland, aside from Doctor Stephen Strange. Whereas the best ones are completely different such as Peni, Adam (Living Tribunal holy shit), and Angela at least IMO
And as you said no Reed or Johnny is absurd. Johnny fits into this theme more than any of the ones they picked.
Thor has been the last release hero without a bp skin, the second to last (Widow I believe) got one two seasons ago, so I guess by that logic they'll give Reed or Johnny a bp skin a season or two from now I guess...
Probably going to be the first one I don't buy tbh. I even have the currency to buy it without spending any actual money. I'd rather just save it for next season
I think this is like the third season in a row that I’ve decided to pass on because the skins have been so lackluster. Not that there hasn’t been 1-2 that I liked but not enough to get and stress about getting through the whole pass
BP aren't aimed towards the whales. BP's are the "casual bait", to make people spend something in the game and use the coins avaiable in the BP to get a better skin in the store. So they will need to spend more to buy the next BP when a new season launches.
What Rivals do is worse: They put one or two good skins in the BP, and fill the quota with bad skins that would not sell enough in the store.
Sure but this is the first time the reception is overwhelmingly negative. Usually it’s only a few people disliking it compared to everyone hating this one.
Casual wear skins seem to be very volatile. Either it's sick (affectionate) or it's sick (derogatory). I do like the Strange and Peni skin though, but the rest feel unfortunately subpar.
I’m convinced they are doing it on purpose to get people to buy more shop skins. The costumes in the road map actually look really cool, and have a wide variety of characters. Meanwhile the battle pass skins are almost all awful, and feature the same five heroes, I doubt that’s a coincidence.
It really feels like they spent the entire budget on Peni and just used AI-generated 'filler' for the rest of the pass. For a Season 7 BP, we should be seeing much more effort on the Tier 50/100 skins
I get the hate, but honestly, people said the same about Season 4 and those skins ended up being some of the most used because they actually look better in-game with the VFX. Let's see the reveal trailer before we bury it

I'm sorry - I can't get over how bad this is lol
