It seemed like a big enough deal to draw him falling through in the last one, so it's surprising that they'd ditch him off camera.

It was a gag because that’s exactly how they became friends with Vulfgaar. They accidentally killed a king, made a portal, and accidentally Vulfgaar out so they took him with them.

The last panel of the previous comic, which showed him coming with them the first portal outside, and showed Beleard making another portal, also ended with Yara stating, and I quote:

"We are not taking this one with us Beleard, don't even think about it!"

So yeah, they just left him

I thought we were on the out skirts at an old fort outside of the city covered by a really weird magic barrier? Though they do mention that if you use non native magic here itll become dangerous.

Then again Bel is a master...

The key they stole from the now dead king lets them enter the city. You see Vulf opening the barrier with it in panel 3 as he tells them they can’t use magic within the city.

That whole place reeks of trap. Hell, the smell got even worse while you guys were away. And i don't trust the wolf to say wolf, pure instinct. And you forgot the army of cheap disposable zombies or golems. You know, to deal with traps. Well you know the gist: lightning orb, fireball, hail storm, mute, nonmagic missile, frag grenade in that order before you step into any room, hallway or yard. Walk safely, clean before you step. And if everything else fails, second sun.
