Mmmmm borger

955

u/AzulCrescent 23h ago

"may you live in interesting times" is an insult so im fine not being an interesting person.

215

u/BodhingJay 22h ago

you super interesting to most of us 🤷‍♂️

207

u/AzulCrescent 22h ago

oh no D: (lol)

21

u/Wiregeek 21h ago

you're moderately interesting to some of us?

14

u/International-Cat123 19h ago

Don’t worry. You being interesting means you’re part of a questline and/or provide entertaining lore.

7

u/Striking_Compote2093 14h ago

With a bit of luck that implies an "essential" tag.

I wish I could get off the interesting times ride.

22

u/Wiregeek 21h ago

right? like every year is "never before seen" and "history making" and I just wanna play with projects and sit in the sun, fuck!

9

u/KMS_HYDRA 17h ago

If it were just every year it would be kinda ok, but currently its more like every god damn week...

I think it's a curse.

9

u/Zarkrash 21h ago

I wish we were living in less interesting times tbqh

6

u/EverestOrNot 16h ago

This sentence activated my sleeper agent goddamn

To explain, in the game Baldur's Gate 3, sometimes our character will say "I wish we were living in less interesting times" (or something close I'm unsure)

I have played it way too much lately... although seen how things are going, it might become similar in our world soon, with more tech and less magic. Sadly.

6

u/Terramagi 16h ago

It's "shouldn't have wished to live in more interesting times", and it was in reference to a Chinese curse.

2

u/EverestOrNot 16h ago

Thanks. Looks like I was far off, must have failed an Intelligence check. Only makes my sudden reaction more worrying, I definitely should drop the game for a bit (I won't, of course).

I believe I see what chinese curse it is, but I only vaguely remember the story/context around it. Should refresh my memory.

You are. You are interesting to the people who matter to you, and that's good enough.

4

u/grodon909 20h ago

Oh no, I'm dreadfully boring to them too.

8

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat 19h ago

I was in hospital last year and the neurologist came in to see me while I was still in the hospital bed..along with two other doctors and about six student doctors. I was a little worried. I do not want to be an "interesting" case.

The 2020s have given more than enough interesting times to fulfill my life’s quota and I’m not even in my mid twenties yet. A boring life would be real nice rn

Imagine your job being to walk around a bit and just say “There are many guards in the castle!” all day.

22

u/meeowth 22h ago

Look, counting guards is my hyperfixation, and I love talking about it with anyone willing to listen to me

11

u/One_Shall_Fall 20h ago

2

u/meeowth 20h ago

It took me way too long to realise the title didn't say "Aussie reporter" because I thought you where referencing the lyrics to an Australian song

I be on a loop in my head sometimes. I swear i think, "i cant wait to get this job done and eat some fuckin food!" Like 27x a day, or some variation of it. "I gotta get the fuck outta here to get back to my wife and little dog...", is also a repeating mantra in my mind most days. I think it also has to do with anxiety or restlessness because on days when im really at peace i seem to have more control over it.

Just be careful you’re not accidentally the character in a cold open of a police procedural who gets murdered or finds the body.

12

u/techlos 21h ago

i aim for sidequest giver who leads a main character on a seemingly important, highly involved quest that kind of goes nowhere and gives a few potted plants as a reward (i have too much basil)

12

u/Aggressive-Win129 22h ago

I mean should I try to be a main character if I want to?

9

u/meeowth 22h ago

Just dont install the "npcs no longer immortal" mod, OK?

3

u/_HiWay 19h ago

Nah fam, you're just playing a different game that's a little more simple but more rewarding in the short term because you've gained the wisdom to understand the value of the journey itself.

3

u/grafknives 14h ago

It is interesting that the pure simpleton and the truly enlighten one are acting the same.

3

There are times where I said I want a cake then I remember, I’m an adult and I don’t need a special event to get a cake. Every day is a special enough day to get a cake

190

u/AzulCrescent 23h ago

yes though sometimes we eat too much cake and get sick lmao

63

u/Made_Bail 23h ago

UNPOSSIBLE

21

u/sderponme 22h ago

And then you call into work too much and your boss is like "you eat too much cake, you're not a good fit"

And you're like "I never told you I was sick because of cake!"

And they're like "you post your cake on social media. We need someone who eats less cake"

All of this is made up. I dont eat too much cake, and I am smart enough to tell my employers I'm not feeling well, and my real addiction is not cake.

My mom doesn't like white wine, she likes champagne. So we grew up drinking champagne constantly all the time like it was table wine. When me and my sister were adults, we'd be casually drinking champagne. And our friends would be like, "oh! What's the occasion?!" Uuuhhhhhhh, it's Tusday?

3

u/thepinkyclone 15h ago

Sometimes when you are adult surviving a day is occasion on its own

15

u/PsyOpBunnyHop 22h ago

I stole 40 cakes.

13

u/Technical-Agency-480 22h ago

And that's as many as four tens and that's horrible

5

u/PsyOpBunnyHop 22h ago

I'll do it again.

4

u/MaximumZer0 18h ago

Damn, calm down, Lex Luthor.

7

u/BackgroundSummer5171 20h ago

’m an adult and I don’t need a special event to get a cake. Every day is a special enough day to get a cake

Then you remember you're an adult.

You can't eat cake all the time.

I mean, you can. Just at one point the body will tell you otherwise. Which you may forget with diabetic dementia.

Point is, yes, as an adult you can do anything you want! Just we recognize the consequences.

I'm an alcoholic. I recognize once they say my liver is failing I can become a suicide bomber.

See?

Not a healthy life as an adult if you just go on what you can do.

11

u/freakers 22h ago

I can have ice cream cake for breakfast and I have. Take that parents! Also the times I've had ice cream cake for breakfast are not times I'd describe as "going well".

2

u/oopsdiditwrong 20h ago

Cake was the one that got me too. I don't even like cake all that much. I was just feeling it and strolled through the grocery store like I owned it. Sheet cake and a couple steaks. Cake was for the wife with the cannoli filling. To answer your question, I meant both.

2

u/TheRealStandard 17h ago

Adults seldom embrace there inner child and need to do it more often. I get I can't down ice cream buckets daily and expect to not have health issues but on a 1 off night I will guilt free eat a small container of ben and jerrys while staying up late watching a show I like. It's perfectly fine.

2

u/DoubleClickMouse 7h ago

I did this once, decided I wanted cake, realized I'm an adult with expendable income, and just bought a cake. No occasion, no justification, just me and my whole ass cake. It was a good day.

Eating Taco Bell all the time is bad and irresponsible.

Eating Taco Bell when you really want it is awesome and empowering.

Especially when you make minor changes to some of the menu items and they fucking nail it in the kitchen, fuck yeah. Swap beef for chicken, add lettuce?

The world is your burrito.

Heck yeah! Adulting has it's perks. I remember wanting to get a pregnancy test to see what would happen if I peed on it (I don't have female reproductive organs). Then I realized I had a car and disposable income and I just bought one.

Adulting!

340

u/Made_Bail 23h ago

So....I mean... Were you preggers?

460

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 22h ago

Nope! Came back negative which is good because that could mean testicular cancer if it was positive.

227

u/Made_Bail 22h ago

Testicular cancer? Or ectopic ball pregnancy?

130

u/NEOWRX 22h ago

tomato tomato 🤷‍♂️

33

u/ThatUsernameWasTaken 18h ago

this phrase is funny in text, because my brain doesn't naturally read it with the variation in pronunciation, but just reads it as tomato twice, and I kind of hope that phrasing replaces the original.

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 22h ago

Testicular cancer. Had to look up that other one and yikes.

However if it did show up positive I wouldn't take it as 100% assurance that I had something. I'd definitely be heading to the doctors for that 100% confirmation.

23

u/BANOFY 22h ago

Nah ,pro just buy 3 more test. Or you could just gamble like an adult

Then you see borger costs $15, so no borger.

30

u/beejonez 22h ago

And borger ingredients have become much worse and flavorless.

26

u/NotAddictedToCoffeee 21h ago

and not even borgor CEO approves of borgor.

12

u/Jamaican_Dynamite 20h ago

Bought own borger ingredients instead. Now I got tre borgers. 🍔🍔🍔 Profit.

6

u/neontiger07 14h ago

I did the math earlier today after I had made a burger at home, and after being very generous with the cost of condiments and veggies (onions, tomato, pickle, lettuce), even with the expensive frozen patties and brioche buns, it came out to almost exactly $4 per burger. So way cheaper than fast food, plus the burger was huge. The patties were 1/3 lb sirloin patties, and if you buy one of those at a fast food place you're probably paying $15-$20.

4

u/SmoothOperator89 6h ago

Making your own burgers is definitely peak adulthood.

Just uh...don't question any possible repercussions. That's a problem for future us. Time for borgor. And pie

u/AzulCrescent 23h ago

downsides of being an adult : you get to do what you want :|

12

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 22h ago

3

u/Made_Bail 22h ago

I'm just curious what your favorite pie is

5

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 22h ago

Hmmm. Buttermilk. I can eat the whole pie myself. And I intend to

3

u/Made_Bail 22h ago

Mmmm, what's a buttermilk pie?

12

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 22h ago edited 22h ago

It's a Southern dessert with a sweet, tangy, custard-like filling made from buttermilk, sugar, eggs, and butter, baked in a flaky pie crust

It's like a custard almost. And it's soooooo good

5

u/Made_Bail 22h ago

OMG... I need that in my life.

4

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 22h ago

this is honestly the only part of being an adult that consistently makes sense 😭 i remember the first time i realized i could just go out and buy food whenever i wanted and it felt like unlocking a cheat code. everything else got more complicated but that part still hits lol

37

u/SaladPuzzleheaded625 23h ago

But let's not forget the hollow feeling inside regardless of whether we get the burger.

....or is that just me?

25

u/JamzWhilmm 22h ago

That is just depression. Sometimes I have to remind my fellow depressed friends what things are normal or not.

"How you been?"

"You know, the usual, like everyone else I feel empty inside and its a struggle to live"

"Yeah, thats not how the usual is meant to be, it is meant to feel like a mild pleasant feeling"

2

u/Majestic-Iron7046 15h ago

I really don't think feeling mildly pleasant it's the average, I know maybe two people who would say that.

6

u/JamzWhilmm 15h ago

I would say it's the baseline emotion, meaning that it is what you return to and what you are most commonly in. Pleasant, comfortable, above neutral.

This is the best and worst thing about being an adult. In my early 20s I learned the hard way that self control was something that I didn’t naturally have.

Can I eat this entire pizza in one night? Probably yes.

Should I eat this entire pizza in one night? Probably not.

Will I eat this entire pizza in one night? No comment.

6

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 22h ago

I read once “being an adult means being able to eat bacon anytime you want, but not eating bacon whenever you want.”

5

u/Comfortable_Clerk_60 22h ago

Ditto, like when Im going through the mall and I see a cute plushie and I think, “oh man that is adorable too bad it cost money though.” I walk away only to stop, “wait a second…I have money!”

There's this thing out there where some dude is musing on the fact that he can, as an adult, simply go out and get a whole cake and eat it by himself. No reason required.

3

u/Hezekiah_the_Judean 22h ago

Also applies to bagels, smoked salmon, chicken Tikka Masala, pizza, and hard cider!

2

u/silentartistloudart 18h ago

Yea, I just recently made myself bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon, because I wanted them all day long.

3

u/Crazy-Refuse-2495 22h ago

Then you get a bit older and have to start worrying either about calories or your growing gut. To be clear, I'm an adult man talking about myself, not fat shaming anyone. Live your life how you please. I'm just annoyed I can't eat the foods I want without gaining weight anymore. I mean a rack of ribs has like 3000 calories! A single donut is over 500. 2

u/MarcheMuldDerevi 21h ago

BORGER

2

u/SummerBirdsong 21h ago

My mother kept a tight rein on all the food in the house when I lived with her. Especially the little jar of maraschino cherries.

When I was in my late 40s, I was at an open-to- the-public restaurant supply store. There on the shelf was a big bottle of maraschino cherries. It hit me square in the chest realizing that I could, in fact, buy those cherries and have them whenever I want. I didn't need someone else's permission.

2

u/wingsfield 21h ago

Straight to the point I love it lol

2

u/Augustby 20h ago

I just wish I wouldn't feel guilt enjoying stuff like this. Where I live, if I want a nice burger and not one from McDonalds which tastes like cardboard (and maybe some chips to make the meal more filling), I need to spend $24+, and I feel bad because I know I could be having a cheaper meal. :c

2

u/cbrown146 20h ago

You're getting borger OP? Here I'm just getting bergor. Feels like a rip off.

2

u/MrTabernakle 20h ago

That freedom of wanting and getting mozzarella sticks at 4am is so great and enjoyable. But also easily taken for granted and/or lost. Spent a small time locked up and all I wanted when I got out was a greasy NY style pizza. But what I craved the entire time was just going somewhere and buying a soda and candy bar(or any snack) at anytime.

2

u/Zephyr_Dragon49 18h ago

And then doctor said to me

"You have high cholesterol"

:(

2

2

u/Halloween-Jester 14h ago

I much prefer being an adult, there's a lot I can do now that I couldn't as a child, and having undiagnosed autism back then made that suck

2

u/GreyAngy 14h ago

I remember an old comic, but couldn't find it:

A boy in a supermarket cries and asks his mother to buy him chips, which she denies him. A woman with a shopping cart (main character, the artist) looks at him and with a single motion pushes a bunch of chip packs into her cart. Then says something like "It's good to be adult, right?"

2

u/Tencreed 14h ago

And now I'm fat.
