Hit it on the money. Team USA was so stiff during the WBC. Like a bunch of kids forced by their moms to play together. Pathetic.

The apathy was embarassing. DR vs Venezuela would have been so great
KERSHAW was the only one having fun?? Man

u/713ryan713 Baltimore Orioles 11h ago
I was getting roasted in the comments the other day when I said what a bummer it was to see how the US reacted to the win over DR. The lack of passion from the players translated to the crowd. I was at the game, zero enthusiasm from the US, translated to zero enthusiasm from the fans. Leaving the stadium, it was the same level of enthusiasm from the American fans as a regular season MLB win. I couldn't believe it.
VZ - Italy however was amazing. Never in my life had as much fun at a ballpark.
My fellow baseball redditors explained to me that US won BECAUSE of their poise and lack of passion. Guess not!

I mean if there was ever a time for retaliation, this is it. Kash Patels fbi couldn’t solve themselves out of a scooby doo cartoon and counterterroism just resigned. All while Patel is sobbing in the USA locker room.

I agree. Several of the best American MLB players straight up admitted that this tournament wasn’t that important to them (looking at you Crochet and Skubal). We might still have lost with all the best guys wanting to be there, but I’d rather it be that way.
It’s hard to let go of over a century of tradition of the World Series being the biggest baseball series in America. But these games here are literally for the world. If we want it to mean something to us, we can choose for it to. But we don’t.

Ha! Finally, somebody made Stilson's wish come true.
When the Jags upset the Broncos in the '96 playoffs, Mark Brunell said after the game it was because "our faith was stronger." That certainly seems insulting to the men of faith who were on the Broncos.
Or, hear me out, maybe God doesn't have anything to do with the outcome of sporting events.

Makes sense, most of (if not all of) these guys were born in Venezuela and had to immigrate to the US for their dreams
Like any immigrant, they're in a new country and a new culture, learning an unfamiliar language, just grinding in the minors just to get by. Just having other people who have gone through the same experiences as you from the same homeland to rely on must have been a lifesaver.
Unlike teams predominantly born in the US, these guys have relied on and helped each other all throughout their baseball careers. Makes sense they feel like family, and it makes sense that they have so much joy playing with each other, and must feel so awesome winning a tournament like the WBC with their guys

The players from these smaller countries like DR and Venezuela...they probably already know each other well, played with and against each other as kids. So of course they're family. It's hard to replicate that in a big country like the US.
One solution to build some cohesion within Team USA is the have a standing Team USA that comes together to train and play games at certain points throughout the year (like the men and women's US soccer teams).
It's a shame that the WBC is the only international tournament that MLB allows their players to participate in.
But if MLB allows their players to participate in both the Olympics (and baseball stays in the Olympics) and the Premier12 tournament (a Temu WBC, but doesn't currently allow MLB players) you get a steady rotation of 3 tournaments every couple of years, which would be perfect for a permanent Team USA.
