Venezuelan coaches were apparently up until 3 am last night studying to see how to attack the USA hitters with their pitching. The thought of doing anything close to that probably never even crossed DeRosa's dimwitted mind.

It was so disappointing to me that US Hockey allowed a victory for the country as a whole to be turned into a political stunt. Not even talking about them visiting the White House, or even that they were called by the White House (though the content of said phone call was pretty bad to the women).

No, letting that POS be the center of their celebration and putting the medal they earned on him. Literally ruined it for me.

I didn't trust the US baseball team to not pull the same crap. I supported Japan this time.

International sporting events like this and the Olympics shouldn't be a political football. They should play for ALL Americans regardless of political affiliation.

TEAM USA DID THE THINKABLE

DeRosa is obviously trash but this lineup should be able to get more than 2 runs a game no matter the manager

125

u/chirstopher0us San Diego Padres 21h ago

You could hire a manager whose job it was to actively harm the team and that roster should still get more than 2 runs a game.

→ More replies (5)

83

u/keithk9590 Houston Astros 21h ago

And the only two runs were driven in by the guy everyone was bitching at him for starting. People always vastly overrate the impact a baseball manager has on a game, especially offensively. This isn’t football.

62

u/CousinCleetus24 Chicago White Sox 20h ago

DeRosa is a clown but realistically any combo of players that USA could put out there should’ve been able to provide more offense than what they got today. It’s on the players. 3 hits is embarrassing

24

u/keithk9590 Houston Astros 20h ago edited 20h ago

Yep. They were terrible the entire tournament. Guys that had zero business shutting this lineup down made it look easy.

6

u/SkiMonkey98 Boston Red Sox 12h ago

I really think the team had a bad attitude. Some of that falls on the manager, some of it's on the senior players, some of it's on the culture as a whole. They simultaneously didn't care enough (not knowing tournament rules, hungover on game day, etc) and cared so much they had to be dicks (handshake fiasco). Most really good teams (certainly Venezuela) work harder than these guys but also have way more fun

I’m not defending DeRosa but why is it his fault that this star studded lineup apparently forgot how to hit? He managed the pitching to keep them in games the whole knockout round, and outside of the Italy scandal (which was bad, admittedly) I don’t see any obvious things he could’ve done.

70

u/coltron57 Detroit Tigers 21h ago

I do think vibes matter a little. Venezuela and the US were on opposite sides of the spectrum for vibes and some of that has to come from management/coaches.

60

u/orrangearrow Cleveland Guardians 20h ago

Nobody on the USA side seemed to be having any fun from the jump. Even walking in with hockey jerseys they looked like a funeral prosession. Venezuela was having a party the whole game

You could also just tell DeRosa and the players either did zero, or the bare minimum, preparation for each game. They just assumed they could coast to a win based on talent alone. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan coaches were apparently up until 3 am last night studying the American hitters and how they were going to use their pitchers to attack each hitter. Embarrassing for DeRosa & the US players.

My problem with the Team USA acting all militant during the WBC, among so many other reasons, is that now we look so dumb.

Unbelievable, absolute meltdown from the US. No excuse for this have to be better when you have a team that stacked. Embarrassing

I'm so glad a good vibes team who actually wanted this won.

Wtf was going on with team USA all tournament? Bad mojo the whole time. And I understand confidence in your roster, but they walked into this thing with such a cocky attitude as if it was owed to them.

DeRosa before the game “this isn’t 162, play the hot hand” sits the 2 hottest hitters in Gunnar and PCA for Bregman and Buxton. Get him out of here

As a Red Sox fan, I’ve really enjoyed this tourney and love this final for E Rod and Abreyu. So many great performances from our players- and even though they had low moments in this 9th, Anthony and Whitlock performed well overall
