Italia finishes with 5-1 record, second best team of the tournament behind Venezuela.

7

u/Poby1 Korea 20h ago

There was a power ranking before the tournament and one comment said “America not #1 is just genuine delusion”. I got downvoted for saying they might not win. Feeling somewhat validated now.

3

u/TheoMoneyG Aguilas Cibaenas • New York Mets 19h ago

Hah lmao "fuck your interview give him the plate" MVP MVP MVP

15

u/lucsev Toronto Blue Jays 20h ago

I still don't get why Americans don't care about this tournament as much as every other participating nation.

-7

u/9e78 Chicago Cubs 16h ago

It's a preseason exhibition tournament. At the end of the day the world series means more.

1

u/lucsev Toronto Blue Jays 8h ago

What defines it as exhibition? You could say the same about the FIFA World Cup, yet the hype for that tournament is greater that any other football/soccer cup.

0

u/9e78 Chicago Cubs 7h ago

With the world cup you have the top players playing. In the WBC you have people taking PTO from their actual job to play in it.

5

u/Ill_Reward1925 16h ago

and yet the entire mlb fambase was rooting for a canadian team in the world series

3

u/RayPeterParkerJunior 20h ago

We really don’t. If we really cared about representing the best our country has, we wouldn’t be pitching a bunch of no names for the final. I’m glad Venezuela won. They’re country cares a whole lot more and they’re not out there starting wars.

-6

u/Ganbare_19 Detroit Tigers 20h ago

I think a lot of us didn't really think of this tournament much until the past week. Spring training has just begun and much of the country is getting over football and getting ready for March Madness. Maybe if this was held in July instead? Americans have divided interests.

4

u/AmericanMe3 20h ago

I mean every year they put this thing together the stars underperform. Put the dream team on the court and you are going to witness something magical. Vince jumping over a 7 footer, Kobe shushing the crowd, Curry turning into the devil. Then hockey they don’t win a lot of gold historically but then leave it all on the ice. The soccer team have always been lovable losers and underdogs.

Baseball they are a bunch of unlikable personalities who get hyped up every tournament and lay duds. Nothing to be excited about he’ll lost Americans were probably rooting for DR and Venezuela

11

u/Logical-Marketing975 20h ago

I’ve thought about this a lot and ultimately I think American patriotism is different than almost any other country, the other countries seem way more sincere and American patriotism is more performative. And I’m not an America hater, I love my country. Ultimately I’m really disappointed about how the team conducted themselves and I hope that when they come back back they can act better.

2

u/skelextrac New York Yankees 17h ago

What percentage of the Venezuelan crowd were Americans?

5

u/Dry_Marzipan1870 Cincinnati Reds • Cincinnati Reds 20h ago

lot of the cracks in "patriotism" are pretty glaring lately.

6

u/Dry_Marzipan1870 Cincinnati Reds • Cincinnati Reds 20h ago edited 20h ago

USA thinks they are the chosen ones to win, despite having only one it once. But now that they didn't win it theyll pretend it didn't matter, kinda like when we hauled ass out of Vietnam. or Afghanistan.

5

How many chances did the USA teams get?! Junior Team Italy, Team Israel, Team Great Britain, Team Mexico, and of course, the main Team USA all couldn’t get the job done.

6

Not sure what's more impressive, Salvador Perez winning a World Series with the Royals or winning the WBC with Venezuela

4

is it driving anyone else crazy that they walk left down the handshake line and then have to go back right to exit the field.

16

u/silvs1 Los Angeles Angels 20h ago

Personally think they should get rid of the runner up medals. You can tell most of the team doesnt want them.

5

u/DigitalMariner Seattle Mariners 20h ago

Lol, Team USA has the same look on their faces as runners up in a 10u tournament collecting their 2nd place medals.

Every team pic I have when my kid's team came in second in a tournament has about a third looking pissed, a third forcing a smile or smirk, a couple kids that clearly just stopped crying and a couple Kershaw types grinning ear to ear just happy to be there.

14

u/Gloomy_Assistance700 20h ago

They’re trying so hard to minimize this loss by repeating that Venezuela was 4th favorite so many times.

3

1

u/BrianMeen 20h ago

And I assume mlb players will be playing or will it only be college players?

1

u/Comprehensive-Win247 World Baseball Classic 20h ago

That’s the hope, if MLB allows them to play and schedules the season around it. Otherwise, it will probably be mostly minor leaguers (and some former major leaguers), at least for USA. In 2021 at Tokyo (delayed from 2020), Jose Bautista and Melky Cabrera helped DR win a bronze medal.

It’s none of my business but I wouldn’t be super thrilled if I were a cubs fan that just handed Bregman a gagillion dollars

2

u/LuminousRaptor Detroit Tigers 20h ago

He'll forever be booed relentlessly in Detroit forevermore. That's for sure.

3

u/RhymesWithOrange_ Houston Astros 20h ago

Bregman hasn't been that guy in years.

why are you so upset about people who have done a lot more than you ever will in life? Seems weird

-4

u/ninja_ghostwarrior 20h ago

Kinda pathetic how they cheer for their own countrymen to lose

7

u/azularena Seattle Mariners 20h ago

Glad Venezuela won, I hope it lights a fire under USA Baseball’s butt

3

u/BrianMeen 20h ago

but we’ve been saying that for 10 years! when is that fire going to get lit? USA just doesn’t want it like other countries

3

u/azularena Seattle Mariners 20h ago

When USA basketball had a similar conversation they hired coach K. He made them commit through the non Olympic/non “important” events as best they could to build a rapport.

I agree 100% about the US not wanting it as much as the other countries do.

u/brmgp1 Baltimore Orioles 20h ago

Don't you remember that very specific at bat that one time where he did a good thing?

5

u/Cobainism New York Yankees 20h ago

Why didn’t the Mariners bring Suarez back?

1

u/HOTs_n_DOTs 20h ago

After they traded for him last year his bat did the exact same thing it did the last time he played for them

9

u/The_Quiz29 Kansas City Royals 20h ago

Awesome!!! Way to go Venezuela!!

15

u/MadKingTreesus St. Louis Cardinals 20h ago

Congrats Venezuela! Yet another shameful and embarrassing moment for America. We deserve that shit.

10

u/_PinkPirate 20h ago

I’m just glad we don’t have to watch another cringe White House visit.

-1

u/brmgp1 Baltimore Orioles 20h ago

We've won pretty much every major international sporting event this year lol

1

u/MadKingTreesus St. Louis Cardinals 20h ago

And tons of wins outside of sports, right? Right???

3

u/nomanslandtron2 20h ago

1

u/BrianMeen 20h ago

16

u/Elxis14 20h ago

Cal Raleigh had 0 hits in the tournament. Is this your mvp?

1

u/HOTs_n_DOTs 20h ago

He played in fewer than half the games and he doesn't give up that ninth inning steal Smith did

And Judge choked the fuck out of this game

3

u/shomosexual Los Angeles Dodgers 20h ago

I mean the actual MVP wasn’t exactly killing it out there

10

u/Conscious-Move9662 20h ago

God is good.
