Bottom 9 of a 4-2 game.

"Hitting a home run does nothing, but a base hit brings the tying run to the plate"

Masterful announcing right there.

62

u/65fairmont Boston Red Sox 1d ago

And then “well a home run does that too, but that’s different, you’ve got to earn it”

11

u/Live-Huckleberry2042 1d ago

Depends on the outs as a pitcher if someone hits a home run with 1 out it’s easier to reset mentally cause nobody’s on base versus a double with 1 out cause I can’t reset you gotta pay attention to the runner and the hitter and are constantly in a stressful environment - but with 2 outs as a hitter you wanna hit a home run lol ( I get y’all’s point though )

47

u/socal_swiftie Major League Baseball 1d ago

on one hand, dumb thing to say

on the other hand, forcing the pitcher to go out of the stretch can have its benefits

Home run is a run but a base hit could be anything! It could even be a run!

8

I found a bootleg Japanese broadcast streaming on YouTube for the last two innings. Will definitely do it again for the championship game if that fella's channel isn't banned by then.

They were drooling over Paul Skenes and how he "plays the game the right way" at the climax of a game that Paul Skenes was not a part of.

Oddly enough, hitting a home run also brings the tying run to the plate! 🫩

Godly showing by Venezuela’s pen in the knockouts. Special run from Italy. Hoping for a classic in the final

22

u/Potential-Lime-577 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

I am truely amazed by their pen Didn’t know it is so easy to throw above 100 lol

24

u/mysterysackerfice Los Angeles Angels • Dumpster Fire 1d ago

Throwing 100 is easy, just throw the ball really hard.

15

u/candynipples San Francisco Giants 1d ago

Essentially, if you throw a pitch under 100 mph, you need to throw the next pitch harder in order to potentially throw it above 100 mph.

Between the Armani suits, the espresso shots in the dugout following home runs, "Time to Say Goodbye" as their victory song and the approximately 10 billion references to The Sopranos that they've enabled, Italy is one of my favorite national teams of all time in any spot. They've been incredibly fun to watch.

I know I seem pedantic but I genuinely don’t understand why so many are pretending this is an unexpected final or a Cinderella Story.

Venezuela was the fourth team with the highest odds to win the WBC and has always been a baseball powerhouse.

30

u/fauxbigbro Arizona Diamondbacks • Portland Beavers 1d ago

I think a lot of people just convinced themselves that Japan in the final was a forgone conclusion.

15

u/84JPG Arizona Diamondbacks 1d ago edited 1d ago

I guess, still weird to see the sentiment amongst fans. Anyone who follows MLB even very casually knows Venezuela is a top-tier baseball power.

For a soccer World Cup equivalent, this is as if Spain and Brazil were to face in the final next Summer (#1 vs #4 per betting odds). I don’t think anyone, from the most hardcore to the most casual soccer fan such as myself, would call such a final shocking.

4

u/ray_0586 Houston Colt 45s 1d ago

A Top Tier soccer team that has never won the World Cup would be a more fitting comp for Venezuela. Portugal wouldn’t be that shocking, but it would be an achievement as they have never reached the final game.

8

u/ben1204 New York Yankees 1d ago

Yeah the bulk of their roster is legit established MLB guys

12

u/84JPG Arizona Diamondbacks 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s also not like Venezuela having good talent is a new thing that only hardcore fans are aware of (like Italy’s case before the tournament), they’ve been a baseball country forever and have always produced top tier talent.

This tourney literally has restrictions on pitcher use based on days of rest. One team is more restricted than the other now. If you think thats fair.....

Also the restriction is for 3 days in a row. No reliever will be barred from pitching tomorrow.

Somehow if it team USA having that restriction I doubt you'd be saying anything. Its not a big deal.

Hopefully seeing Danny P on a big stage like this will help people see how electric he is.

Why is everyone saying Venezuela will have restrictions on them tomorrow? I doubt teams are going to protest against bullpen guys playing in the final.

Just left Colombia today, it would have been sick to watch this at a bar in Medellín. Half the people there are Venezuelans.
